Lakes
Course is in the best shape of any course I've played this year. Pleasure to play it.
Great course, very slow play
Very popular county course. Well maintained but also crowded most of the time.
Good to be back!
Even while many Florida golf courses remained open, Indian River County ordered its facility closed on March 20. Golfers - myself included - were glad this past weekend to see both the Dunes and Lakes courses reopened. The regular Saturday quota-and-skins group was able to resume, gladly following social distancing and keeping scores on the Golf Genius app. The course clearly benefited from more than a month of respite from golfers and their carts. The fairways looked better than I have ever seen them. Unfortunately, it's bound to be short-lived, as single-golfer cart traffic will likely take its toll on the turf in short order. Here's hoping golfers recognize this threat and treat the course kindly.
Sandridge -Lakes
The course is a great find in Vero Beach. Excellent pace of play, friendly staff and an excellent variety of holes. Several sets of ties enables you to have a varied experience every time you play.
A great municipal golf course
When it’s a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon at the height of the snowbird season, there’s going to be plenty of waiting on shots. I see there are a lot of comments on this site about this, and I think you should know what you are up against before you go and be prepared to sit back and enjoy your day.
The course was slow, and we waited on quite a few shots, but still finished in 4.5 hours which is good for someone who has experienced public golf in the New York City area in the summer. So if you want to race around the track, join a private club.
As for the course itself which is the most important thing, Lakes at Sandridge is exceptional. It’s visually stunning, incredibly well kept, and tests every shot you have in your bag. It was a windy day which only added to the challenge. The holes are unique to each other, and keep you on your toes. The greens were a little uneven in the speed, and there were a few greens that were healing from some damage that was done to them. The clubhouse was kind of blah, but there was a separate chipping and bunker area for practice which gets a big thumbs up from me. The staff was very busy, but nice enough if you were nice to them.
Overall, taking into consideration all of the factors, the golf at Sandridge is at the top of the municipal courses I have played and it rightfully earns five stars from this player.
Nice course, very slow paste, will never go back
Waited about 10 minutes on each shot for the first 9 holes. It took one hour just for the first 3 holes, can you imagine? The group right in front of us only played the first 9 holes. We got to the back nine to find out that other groups had been inserted in front of us, or just jumped in, so it was even slower. After 4 h 30min, we were at hole no. 14, the hole that we absolutely wanted to play after reading the comments about that hole. Very nice. After that, we just drove back to the Club house because it was just too slow. Finally found out that the second group in front of us on the first nine were just finishing their round and there was at least one foursome on each hole that we did not play, i.e., 15, 16, 17. So where were these three twosomes & foursomes coming from? Did the starter send 3 other groups on tee no 10 or did they just jump in? In any case, I have not seen a marshall on the course and the person in the Pro shop did not seem too interested in listening to what I had to say. The first time we played there we played the Dunes, and the guys at the Cart Return was yelling at us because we did not place the carts back exactly where he wanted us to place it. Sorry guys, but you will not see us again.
