The Savannahs Golf Course

About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Nice course
Well maintained course. Greens are true. Friendly bartender and folks at 19th hole.
Very Challenging
Front 9 is narrow with lots of water but the back 9 opens up for good scoring.
Improving greed
The course is getting better with the greens. However they need to verticut and mow the greens more frequently
Fun Course and Well Managed
Always fun to play at Savannah's, course has a great layout and the entire staff and cart girl are fantastic.
Poor stsffing
Course was great, very well kept, although the course marshal (older gentlemen with longer hair) was very disrespectful. Ruined the expierence for me and my buddies.
Used my entire bag
Yes, there were dry spots on the fairway and "some" greens. You can easily move your ball a couple of inches for a clean look. For me, best part of this course...I used every club in my bag. Had to play "smart golf" on a few holes. This course is well worth the $$.
Once a gem
Once a gem golf course in the space coast area is now a barren cow pasture. I first learned how to play golf at Savannah‘s and spent so many afternoons enjoying the course. Well, I don’t play it as regularly now. I played it for the first time since December. The conditions in December were drastically better than the ones I experienced on the 26th. From what I heard the course is for sale and they are clearly not putting any money into keeping up the conditions. I have never seen the practice facility in such disrepair. There is hardly any Bermuda grass on the practice putting green and water probably hasn’t touched the surface of the chipping green since I last played it. The bunkers look like they haven’t been raked ever. Tea boxes contain very little grass and mostly Florida sand. One very small body of water I counted 12 alligators. The pace of play was absolutely ridiculous, considering the quality of the course.. holes were double and triple stacked with groups and it took well over 5 1/2 hours to play a round. The greens are being overrun by POA and other devastating weeds. There is no sign that they are trying to prevent the greens from being taken over. It seems to be massively overstaffed by a bunch of 19 year olds who do nothing all day long. The group in front of us cart died completely, maybe 20 feet away from three employees and they didn’t pay attention were too preoccupied, chatting, and playing on their phones to notice or lend a hand even though we were calling for their assistance. I never thought I would say it, but Savannah‘s golf course is the second worst golf course that I have ever played.
This course needs water
This is an interesting golf course with lots of wildlife, however, they are not watering the fairways so you’re playing a lot of dirt & brown grass at this point. I hope they r getting it back into good shape once the rain starts.
Not worth more than the hot deal
Cart was dirty, couldn’t drive the cart to your car and when finished cart had to be left on cart path after the 18th hole! From there you had to gather your stuff and lug it across the parking lot! Greens were in fair shape.
Great course
Even though we're having a drought the course was in good condition.
