The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Good course - Club Rental Ugh!
Overall experience was good with the exception of the club rentals. Club rental ran over $30.00 per set which, considering the state of the rental clubs (quite scuffed and well used), seemed to me to be high. Only the fact that the Golf Now round cost was really good kept it at a reasonable rate.
Excellent Target Golf
First off, we really enjoyed our round of golf at The Savannahs, so please take the criticisms as only opportunities for improvement. I'd play again under the exact same circumstances.
The course was fantastic, and we played it one day after playing a course where we could swing away with driver on every non-par 3 hole. So, The Savannahs offered up the opportunity to think around the course, be judicious off the tee, cognizant of where trouble would really hurt you, and watch for approach angles to smallish greens.
The tee boxes weren't horrible, but weren't in great shape, and the difficulty in finding a great teeing spot added to the challenge when trying to pin-point tee shots. Sand and waste areas were fair and offered the right amount of penalty for getting in them. Fairways and greens were mowed very well. The young man at check in circled on our card where some blind trouble existed from a couple of tee boxes and that was HUGELY helpful for our first round here.
Our pace was slow... we were a two-some, following a three-some that were using two sets of clubs and there was never an offer to play through. Granted, they did catch the group in front of them a couple times during the round (like when they skipped the turn), but we turned on some music because we had so much wait time between shots. If we would've been playing as a three-some or four-some I don't believe we would've had any issue whatsoever.
My friend has already requested that we come back to play the Savannahs the next time he's in town, and he stated the reasons as, "liked being able to use every club in the bag and really having to concentrate on each shot instead of just swinging away."
Nice course
This is a challenging , fun , course for seniors.
Once again i played it from the wrong tees and struggled but had fun. I love the challenge. This course must be played to learne where not to hit the ball as some blind spots exist. Staff was friendly
Consistent Challenge
Not the easiest course to navigate through if you have those unforgiving shots. The greens are always in good shape, the fairways have their spots, but for the most part are very forgiving.
Love seeing all of the wildlife and meeting some of the nicest folks on the course. The staff is great! Can't wait to play it again!
Great golf course
Last couple of months I'm playing every week and I love this course! It's very challenging and well maintained. Water hazards at first 9 holes are big headache and probably is gonna cost you extra balls (be prepared)⚠️It's a shame that the starter has no interest in his job!!! He's just bad as my slice
Stiff raise in price
I play this course year round. In the spring & summer, when tourists aren't here, rates are decent for this course. However penalizing local year round residents with a 100% increase in price is unsatisfactory! I will play other courses in winter and let the snowbirds play here

Condition of Savannah golf course
The overall condition was not good. The greens were very torn up and full of patched sod. The cart path was broken in most places and the cement was in high need of repair.

FIRST TIME...
Having read the previous reviews I was holding back on playing this course until I read the latest. The track is in good shape, greens are spot on, some fairway repair that u have to move ur ball, but other than that a good course. Setting is very nice and will play again and again.
Hidden gem
Was hesitant to play due to several recent negative reviews. However, i found the course to be well maintained and challenging. If you like birds, alligators and jumping fish, this course id for you. Surprisingly, there is an upscale residential community intertwined with the course, which has water on almost every hole. Pro shop attendant could have more hospitable, but no big deal.
Course was in poor condition,
The greens were very very slow and did not run true somewhat bumpy also. The tee boxes were level in many spots and grass was poor. The fairways had weeds and in many spots bare dirt. This course used to be in such nice shape this time of year. Was very disappointed.
Savannah golf club
Very nice course and very quiet, staff very friendly
Fair conditions/poor greens
The greens are extremely bumpy with pot holes (from aerification couple months prior). As the sun was going down you could see the bumpy greens that in some case kept the putts from going straight. In addition, the greens have some good size weeds that need to be taken out.
All said and done, these factors would not keep me from coming back. At a price point of $25, this would be worth coming out for.
Pace of play (4) is somewhat scewed because the course was empty.
galf saturday
course was a real good layout but greens were real harry and slow not in good shape bunkers were in terrible shape with a few holes fairways were a trainwreck . would like to play again when course is in better shape
the course is not in is better shape
the green where poor ,the fairways where fair, the tee box were poor the staff where very friendly ,the club house where dammage by the huricane matthew,
Course needs work...
Played the week after Hurricane Matthew ( and the effects of Nicole).
Very rough shape but playable. Lots of damage from the winds (they lost 100+ trees).
Still a great value and hope they get the course back in shape soon.
Needs lots of work
This course could be absolutely beautiful and it will be after meeting the superintendent while we were out. It has been neglected for many, many years. They're re-doing the club house / restaurant and the entire place is under new ownership.
The front 9 aren't in bad shape. The back 9 is terrible. The fairways are some of the worst I've ever seen.
I will play this course again... a year from now to see how the improvements are coming. Absolutely DO NOT play this course after a lot of rain. It was absolutely soaking wet with all the rain we've been having.
Rough conditions
The course was in terrible shape. Greens looked as though they had been aerated recently but never came back. Lots of pock marks on greens, very inconsistent with both speed and bumps.
