One of the Houston area's newest courses, Cypress Lakes Golf Club was designed by Jim Fazio, who carved the course out of the thick pine trees and used a significant number of lakes and bunkers to spice up this mounded track. Four sets of tees provide options ranging from 5,351 yards to 7,024 yards at the tips. In addition to the layout, the experience at Cypress Lakes is enhanced by the impressive driving range, which is complete with target greens guarded by bunkers -- an unusual look for a basic driving range.

Days getting shorter, 3pm tee
I knew it was going to be a close call finishing but although the last three holes we played were after sunset , thanks to clear skies we were still able to track and find our golf balls and finish. As we shook hands on the last green. golf balls came flying in. Let’s get out of here before we get killed I said to one of my playing partners. The greens were as fast and smooth as a pool table. Perfect 75 degree temps brought out the masses. Great course with the caveat I gave out to fellow golfers on #2 to stay left away from the water. The slope goes down to the water and it’s mowed close to the nap. Number 15 is so long for a par 4.
dry fairways
This course is not worth $90, greens are good, but even the guy at pro shop said course needed water.
Nice course!
Really nice golf course -- now if the golfers would just do their part. I gave course conditions 4 stars instead of 5 not because of anything wrong with the course, but because golfers seem to have forgotten common etiquette around fixing divots, raking bunkers, repairing ball marks on the green... Not just at Cypress Lakes, but everywhere.
The first time I played here about a year ago, greens were under maintenance and barely playable. Greens now are nice and roll true. Course is a little dry in places, but overall a beautiful track.
Staff was friendly and upbeat. We'll definitely be back.
Waaaaay too slow!
Tee boxes and fairways in reasonably good shape-- could use a little rain or watering.
Greens in spectacularly good shape.
Horrible pace of play. 2.5 hours for each nine. Not a single marshal in sight. Perhaps the Aberdeen two-team tournament killed pace of play...but no one could give an explanation or, better yet, speed up the pace.
The grill, such as it is, was unavailable (again-- the tournament??)
Really good course
The course was in great shape except for a few bunkers had water from yesterday’s rain. Greens smooth and pretty fast. Pace of play good. First day in a long time it wasn’t smoking’ hot, so that was a big bonus.
Not well maintained
Nice course but not well maintained, balls everywhere on several holes, long line in the pro shop, carts dying and driving range was like hitting out of a sand trap.
Heat returns
I was glad to be playing slower due to 100 degree heat. The 15th hole got me as I three putted across the green despite one of my better approach shots still leaving me well short.
Very disappointing
Guy who checked me in was very nice. The starter was rude and smoking a cigarette. Never saw a refreshment cart on the course. Young lady at the snack bar was more interested in closing than serving anyone.
Tee boxes in good shape. A few bunkers are light on sand. Greens are in great shape. Very fast.
The overriding problem is how dry this course is. The lies were terrible. Anything the least bit off the fairway was impossible to hit.
I remember this course being much better.
Four hour round at El Dorado
On an empty course as a single, t spent extra time looking for golf balls in the thick rough. Water carries are punitive. Cart GPS is nice but cumbersome to manipulate from hole to hole. Ice is nice on #10.
Have to speed people up waiting 5 to 10 minutes on tee boxes not good.
Watch out.
The course is in pretty good shape. Green are a little soft and had subtle feet indentations which made the green tricky. The bunkers were another story. They looked good but some had just a thin layer of sand and it was rock hard just under that. Other were nice and soft. Made bunker play very difficult if not next to impossible. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
