One of the Houston area's newest courses, Cypress Lakes Golf Club was designed by Jim Fazio, who carved the course out of the thick pine trees and used a significant number of lakes and bunkers to spice up this mounded track. Four sets of tees provide options ranging from 5,351 yards to 7,024 yards at the tips. In addition to the layout, the experience at Cypress Lakes is enhanced by the impressive driving range, which is complete with target greens guarded by bunkers -- an unusual look for a basic driving range.

Needing Attention
Overall I like the course layout. It was in dire need of a mower and the holes on every green had been in the same spot for a long time. Worn out edges on every hole. Recently verticut and sanded but healing well. Hopefully it gets the needed attention soon.
Needs some TLC
The course is a little rough in places and could use some TLC. Specifically, greens are dry and hard, sand in traps is generally hard, tee boxes could use some picking up of the scattered broken tees, looks like somebody chopped wood in places. Never saw a courtesy card driving around. Also, despite COVID, course is back to putting 2 players in a cart - WHY? Guess they don't believe in proper protection for customers?
First time
Overall shape was really good and a good layout.. Tee boxes and fairways all well maintained. Well placed bunkers and rough isn’t out of control. Houses line some holes, but pretty much remain out of play, even for a slicer like me.
Greens were spongy and I never did figure out out to read them, and had too many three putts. Don’t blame the greens, but they were the softest greens I’ve played in a long time. But, bonus is that they weren’t any ball marks.
I will be back and plan to add to my rotation.
Great shape !
I had not played here in about 2 years or so. The course was in great shape. No beverage cart (it is 100 degrees). They did have a sign up on the pro shop counter telling players that though. Pro shop staff (Scott) never greeted me and kept on talking with someone else in the shop. One of the best public courses in Houston.
Grow green grass, not spread tan sand
Sandskeeper spreads coarse sand on greens about 3 times per month. Punches, aerates, verticuts, dyes, poisons, and fertilizes many times per year. 50% of the time the greens are bad because he has torn them up. Silica as no nutritional value, plus it gets hot in the Texas heat and bakes the blades and roots. One thinks the grass is healthier because of the green dye sprayed on the greens and collars. Sand has not been put in bunkers for at least a year-and-a-half, and after rain the bottoms are a blackish clay. It is almost like the sandskeeper is saying if I tear up the greens then I will maintain my job repairing them. Let Mother Nature work!
Bad day at Cypresslakes
They were having a tournament and never told us. No carts available and bunch of players on each tee box. Never experienced this situation before. I was driving to the course and couldnt cancel using the internet. Please I would like to get refund for the taxes....Not fear what they did
As good as it gets
Nothing to say much about the course. Everything is as expected.
