Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 06/2025.
One of the Houston area's newest courses, Cypress Lakes Golf Club was designed by Jim Fazio, who carved the course out of the thick pine trees and used a significant number of lakes and bunkers to spice up this mounded track. Four sets of tees provide options ranging from 5,351 yards to 7,024 yards at the tips. In addition to the layout, the experience at Cypress Lakes is enhanced by the impressive driving range, which is complete with target greens guarded by bunkers -- an unusual look for a basic driving range.

Great windy day to play!
Awesome day for golf. It was a little windy. Only down side was the greens were dry which made it hard to hold the green. Other then that it was awesome!
Nice course!
The course is always in great condition. Even after rain the day before, fairways were nice, rough was fair, and the greens are always slick, but fair and true. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hot dog buns need some attention, but the staff is fun! Always on the top 3 on my list to play in the area. Good value for the price!
Ken,
Keeping our course in top condition is always a priority of ours, so we are happy to hear such great feedback on it! Thank you for the great review and saying we are one of your top 3 courses! We hope to see you out again on the greens very soon!
putting is everything!
Cypress lakes is a awesome course! Straight forward and not tricked up. The greens are some of the best in the city! Love this course!
Thank you so much for the great review! We are very happy to hear that you love our course! We can't wait to see you again soon!
Nice, but too expensive
Overall a good course, just think it's too expensive for the location and amenities. If your going to charge $74 it should include range balls before you play.
Thank you for taking time to leave a review! We appreciate all feedback!
Top 5 greens on Houston area
Course in great shape, greens are fabulous, smooth and fast, so fast the grain is minimal. Tee to green is nicely groomed, rough is not long enough to be penal mostof the time. If you can get a discount rate, it will be a super value. A pleasure to play, although none of the holes really stand out
Thank you for the great review! Please come out and see us again soon! Check out our Facebook Page to stay up to date with our course!
Enjoyable round
Work schedule changed and was able to break free early and play golf. Found a great deal on Golf Now and was able to play in under 3 hours. Course is in great shape. Greens still rolled fast even though they have sanded over them recently. Weather was not that hot and slightly over cast so could not of asked for a better September day to play. If you have not played Cypress Lakes before, get a deal and go on out. You will enjoy it.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your round at Cypress Lakes! It always helps when the weather is great! We hope to see you again soon!
Allows 5-Somes on the Weekend
Have played this course many times and basically like the course but pace of play was terrible on Sunday...over 5 hours.
We were started off the back on 10 and played our first 9 holes in a couple hours...made the turn and there was a 5-some on the tee box (hitting from tips) and the group we were following waiting as well. Turns out the 5-some showed up an hour after their assigned tee time, made a big fuss and were allowed to just jump in front of the group in front of us..
We waited on every tee box the rest of the day....over 3 hours for our final 9 holes.
With all the waiting in 90+ degree weather you would at least hope for the beverage service to come around.....not until we pulled up to our last hole.
Stayed for lunch and food was fine, pretty typical for a golf course and priced accordingly.
To me, in Houston there are other courses to spend $80 and over 5 hours play time.
We are so sorry that the pace of play today was not to our usual standards. . If there is anything we can do please let us know. We want your time spent here to be worth your time.
Great value with discount!
Course was in good shape for lack of rain recently. Fairways were good but some of the tee boxes were worn pretty bad but still great course for the value. Bring plenty of ball - water in play on 1/2 the holes!
Thank you for the 5 star review! We care a lot about our course condition, so it is always good to hear some feedback. Hope to see you out here soon!
Cypress Lakes
Good course and I would play course again. I would recommend this course to other golfers.
It's Just Okay!
It's okay. I spent $80 on a Saturday morning (including small range bucket), for an "Okay" course and experience. The pro shop and grill are no frills (just okay)...the driving range and putting green are small (just okay)...the course is full of straight ahead shots and few doglegs (just okay)... And for the price of it all, it wasn't worth it. I am happy that I played it once, as I have played many courses in NW Houston, but I wouldn't come back for any price over $40. Additionally, it bugs me that these courses allow for walkers on Saturday. I appreciate the walking experience in golf...but not on a Saturday. This ruined the pace of play for my group, as two lower-skilled walkers were ahead of us. The one positive I have to say and to be fair...for all the heat Houston has seen in Summer 2015, the greens looked good. But that is it.
Thank you for taking time to leave a review. We appreciate all types of feedback.
Great course
Greens are the best I have played in a long time. I would recommend this course.

This course is a hidden gem
My second time playing in a week--while visiting relatives nearby I booked tee time here a few days before. Like it so much I just had to play it again. It is a hidden gem of a course in my opinion and scary challenging. Great practice facilities. Told that previous owners basically ran the course into the ground but I saw signs that present owners have poured a lot of money into restoring. I saw workers on the course all day. Fairways and greens were spectacular. Only complaints I have is that many bunkers were thin of sand and the carts were well-worn. But I wouldn't let those keep you from playing there. I'm sure these will ultimately be rectified.
Great course, slow play
Very much enjoyed this round - course is in great shape , especially the greens. Apparently lots of others share this positive view of the course though, since we typically had about a 10-minute wait on each tee box. Round took about 5 hours - that's really my only complaint.
gdgmoser,
Thanks for the review. We're glad to hear the course was in great shape. We'll be keeping a closer eye on the clock. We hope you'll come out and play again soon.
Fast All Over
I'll preface my review by saying I live in Ohio and have been playing in slow, wet conditions all year. While traveling for business, I took advantage of the opportunity to golf near Houston, and based on the reviews I chose Cypress Lakes.
It took me a while to adjust to the speed. My drives were gaining an extra 50 yards on average thanks to the roll. I had three drives that were 300+, and at home I'm mostly around 250+. Sometimes the extra distance was good, and others not so much. The greens were also very fast, and my only complaint would be that they were recently aerated and didn't roll as true as they probably do most of the time.
The only trouble on this course is water. The guy in the pro shop said it was a links style course, but I would say it's a bit of a hybrid. There was no high grass and as long as you stay dry, you'll find your ball. Most holes you can use driver or 3 wood, and I found myself often hitting my approaches with 9-iron or sand wedge. The greens held pretty well, but eventually I figured out I should use one club less and let the ball run to the putting surface.
Very nice pro shop and the staff was friendly. They have a nice teaching facility there as well. If you live near Houston or if you're traveling there for business, I highly recommend giving Cypress a try. I think you'll enjoy it.
PinHunter,
Thank you so much for the detailed review. And thank you for the recommendation to fellow business travelers. It sounds like you got dialed in after a few holes, we're happy your enjoyed yourself while you were in Houston and at Cypress Lakes.
Enjoyable round
Enjoyable round - overall a good layout- not overly difficult. Greens were in decent shape- appeared to be several days from being perfect due to recent aerating. Fairways in good shape. Finished in under 4 hrs. Overall a good facility
jayjud,
Sounds like you had an all-around good round. Come back and see us. We hope we can earn that 5th star from you.
Value and quality
Nice course especially given the pricing. Greens are in great shape and the course really is a nice track to play.
Greg,
Thanks for the review. We're glad you enjoyed yourself. Come back out and see us soon.
great track, BUT...
love this course and its usually in great shape but it wasn't this time. The fairways were dried up bad and the greens were really bumpy and sanded. Hopefully when i play it again next Friday it will be back in top shape.
jmz,
I'm sorry the course did not live up to your normal expectations. Did you ever make it back out?
Very good course
Had a good time playing this course. The course conditions were good. This course is well maintained. The greens roll true and fast. The fairways are plush no dead spots and just enough water on the course to make it interesting. The front 9 is a warm up for the back which considerably tougher. I played at a special rate so it was a real steal as far as I'm concerned. Will definitely go back.
We're glad to hear the course presented a challenge, was well maintained, and was a good value. We look forward to having you back out.
A 20-minute downpour affected the round
The weather affected not only course conditions, but also pace of play (5+ hours) and scoring. That however, doesn't excuse the absence of drinking water on the course (coolers were present, but empty) nor any sign of a beverage cart. I will go back again as I did enjoy the layout and would like a better gauge of how I might score given more ideal circumstances.
NickAlek,
Thanks for the review. Let us know when you make it back out. It doesn't look like we'll be getting much rain anytime soon, and we'll make sure the coolers are full.
Nice layout
I like the layout. The greens were good but not great. Just a little bumpy, good speed though.
The bunkers haven't recovered from all the rain but I can't blame them for that.
I quit after 9 holes. The mosquitoes almost drained me.
I can't wait to get back when everything has recovered.
brotherdale,
We can't wait to have you back! We recently aerated the greens and the bunkers are looking much better. Come back out soon, conditions should be perfect.
