One of the Houston area's newest courses, Cypress Lakes Golf Club was designed by Jim Fazio, who carved the course out of the thick pine trees and used a significant number of lakes and bunkers to spice up this mounded track. Four sets of tees provide options ranging from 5,351 yards to 7,024 yards at the tips. In addition to the layout, the experience at Cypress Lakes is enhanced by the impressive driving range, which is complete with target greens guarded by bunkers -- an unusual look for a basic driving range.

Good but can be improved
Course was in pretty good shape. As usual, greens were very quick but rolled true. My only complaint is the bunkers were in bad shape. Some of them looked like they hadn't been raked in a while. We tee'd off at 8:30 and there were too many in bad shape to think it was the groups in front of us. They need to put more care into the bunkers. Other than that, a good golf experience and I'd come back.
nice fast greens
Really nice cource with challenging quick greens. Pro shop customer service needs some work. We were a foursome playing at two hour pace on tge front nine but was tild to pick up the pace because there was a threesome behind us and twosomes behind them. Didnt make sense to us.
Pleasant round of golf
Course is in great condition. The greens are fast (I had five three putts) but smooth and true
Excellent course
Course is in excellent conditions, very well maintained. The course itself is very player friendly. I will be returning soon
Course is in great condition this late in the summer
It was rainy so the bunkers were a little muddy, the greens were great, the fairways were in good condition.
The course is in great condition
The greens are fast. They had just rolled them. I've never seen a green rolled in the 30 years that I have played golf. Great staff. Great golf course
Fast greens and good for handicap golfers
This course features modest green fees, generally fast and true greens, and a friendly layout. While mad-made features are at a minimum, several blind water hazards, strategically placed trees, and typically fast greens make this course surprisingly fun to play for a handicap golfer. They definitely pride themselves on excellent conditions on the green, but occassionally the greens get away from them as I have seen a combination of no grass, excessive top dressing (ie multiple times a month), and dried out bumpy grass. The best bet is to call ahead and check on these conditions if you are sensitive to such issues. Other than that, the course is generally in good condition, and conditions are very consistent throughout in terms of fairways, green speed, & bunker sand. The course does play shorter than the card due to very firm fairways, and higher skilled golfers may be bored with the fairly flat and visually unexciting layout along with a boring experience off the tee box (pretty much grip and rip on every hole to a very generous fairway). Around the greens, tight lies, generous approach bunkers and dual tiered greens make picking the right side a must on approach shots. Being short sided or above the hole when the greens are firm and rolling 11-12 on the stimp makes for very tough conditions for scrambling, and the course is setup for this to happen often. The bad things about this course include a typically torn up driving range (half of it appears to be perpetually reserved for lessons and whatever the pro wants) and the proliferation of very bad golfers taking way too long to play a round of golf. Like any public course in this area, Fridays and Weekends are terrible and you are likely looking at a 5 hour round of golf as clueless golfers play their 3rd shot from just in front of the ladies tee whilst in a foursome and generally have no idea that they are taking 25 minutes to play one hole. Such is the price a course pays for being accessible. I generally play during the week, and a twosome can get around in 3 hours or so most of the time.
Great place to play
This is a player friendly course. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were wide open. I will be back to play this course.
Fast greens
Overall the course was very nice. The course has some challenges with several hills, bunkers, and mostly water lots of water. The greens were very fast and fairways had a lot of bounce
FAST Greens
Love this course. The greens are really quick, but I love that.
Course condition
The greens were just coming out of being airiated. The did putt good.
Don't play there
Poorly run. Avoid on Saturdays. No regulation of groupings or pace of play. Staff was unresponsive to the multiple golfer complaints I witnessed while waiting for my chance to complain. Took 2 hours to play 5 holes.
Poor Greens
This is a course that touts the best greens in the city, however, on this day they were not. They had been recently punched and were mostly sand on this day. I've played here when the greens were terrific, but I was a little disappointed when I saw them this time. The rest of the course was in great condition.
Always fun, but....
We've played CL before and the greens are usually much nicer than they were this time around...didn't really effect the long putts but the short putts didn't roll well as you had to cram into the back of hole to keep them online....the bunkers need some work done on 'em, but we don't hit into many of those so we managed....the speed of play was a bit slow, as there were no marshalls on the couse at all.....we'll be back but there's room for improvement to make CL the best it can and should be.
Course
The course was in great condition but the staff were less than friendly in the clubhouse.
This course will test you on how straight you hit the ball
The greens were not as good as I have seen them before but they did putt well
Drained great
Houston area got multiple inches of rain this week, called to see if course was open at 8 was $44 on golf now and told cart path only which I figured after all the recent rains. Made a time for 11:15 found out price dropped to $30 and was told they were playing 90 degrees on cart paths which I was amazed at the course drained perfect. Sure some of the bunkers were washed out, but even as we played their course staff was out pumping them and working them back into playing shape. Got in our 18, asked about a replay rate and was told just to go ahead. Very first class!! Only 2 minor drawbacks, $3 for Gatorade is a little pricy and putting green was closed but other than that was a great experience will be putting Cypress Lakes on my to play again list soon.
Great place to play...
Condition of the Course was good, despite heavy rain showers recently. Bunkers were being repaired as we played.
The course has great greens
The greens were in excellent condition and is a very challenging course. You must play it more than once as course knowledge is very helpful. Many blind hazards.
Terrible greens
As of 5/23/14 the greens are in awful shape. From tee to green the course is in great condition but the greens are awful
