One of the Houston area's newest courses, Cypress Lakes Golf Club was designed by Jim Fazio, who carved the course out of the thick pine trees and used a significant number of lakes and bunkers to spice up this mounded track. Four sets of tees provide options ranging from 5,351 yards to 7,024 yards at the tips. In addition to the layout, the experience at Cypress Lakes is enhanced by the impressive driving range, which is complete with target greens guarded by bunkers -- an unusual look for a basic driving range.

just a little breezy, check out the pin flag! Photo submitted by roadgolfer on 02/27/2013
Great greens make up for poor fairway condition.
Seems the new management has let the fairways slip a bit .
Greens are great as usual but course needs some attention.
Fast greens
The only problem was the greens had been sanded, but the greens are so fast anyway that it was only a small problem.
The course was well maintained.
The course was well maintained. Greens were sprayed with sand but were still fast. I would say next month or so the greens will be in perfect shape. Fun course to play.
Outstanding possibilities ! !
A Great value on the HotDeal special ! Greens are well kept, nice rolling and fast (stemp about 10 ?). However, the fairways really need some attention! They are currently cut so short there is no opportunity to build up a sod base and are hard as rock ! Can't imagine what hard pan they'll be like in August if they don't allow the grass (fairways and rough) to Grow ? Otherwise, a very interesting layout and very enjoyable round. Played very quickly on a Mon. around noon. Drove an hour for First time on course with a 75 for a 6 hdcp. golfer.
Maintenance crew getting much better
For a while this course was terrible, with the exception of the greens. Now, it is obvious that the course is getting treated much better by the maintenance staff and the course shows it. Better traps, fairway divots getting filled, fairway bare spots getting filled with sand, greens in better shape. Food still has alot to be desired though. Beverage cart seen frequently on front nine, not at all on back.
Lots of water in play and fairly long course even from white tees
Fairways in fair conditions, greens very fast. Would recommend this to friends
This course had great greens
Golf now made it simple and the course was great and challenging
Great conditioned course, always have a good round here.
Definitely recommended higher than others in the area
Par for the course
I have played Cypress Lakes numerous times. It is always a fun course to play. It has a good mix of holes to challenge you and that you can score on. It can play tough when the wind is howling. 18 is a beast. Greens are always in pretty good shape.
I would say you usually get what you pay for at Cypress Lakes.
Excelent Improvements Made!
Cypress Lakes is in fantastic condition! Especially when considering the Houston drought conditions everywhere else. I don't know if the ownership changed or what, but this golf course has really improved. Greens are incredible, fairways actually have an abundance of lush grass, and the tee boxes are in great shape too. All of this for 30% - 40% less than I've paid in the past. Hats off to the friendly staff at Cypress Lakes. Keep up the good work!
Got potential
Cypress Lakes was full of water holes, but their renowned greens(I've heard they have been great in the past) were pretty awful. I would give it a chance in a couple of months, if I can get a deal.
The course has some very challenging holes
Course was in good condition. Greens were very smooth and fast. The fairways were a bit dry & bare in places [could do with some rain]. Bunkers were excellant - full of sand and raked!!
Very Challending Course
Very challenging course and in good shape. Unfortunatelly it was very windy but it was still playable so that only goes to tell about the conditions of the course. Great pace and cordial staff. Greens are fast and unfortunatelly, they are a little too hard.
Great greans, friendly staff, great value
Played Friday afternoon. Great day, enjoyed it. Greens roll well and are even pace. Enough hazards to get you if you are a little off your gane.
Very good course
Fast greens that rolled true. Pin placement was tough. If you put too much on a put it will blow past the hole. Lots of water but manageable.
Not worth the $70 green fee. Fast greens, dirt fairways.
We played Cypress Lakes yesterday. It was easy to get a tee time and there were very few players on the course. After seeing the conditions do the fairways I now know why. They were hard packed with more dirt than grass so if you didn't strike the ball cleanly there was little margin for error because there was absolutely no cushion of grass under the ball. Every iron shot created an explosion of dirt. Perhaps it's because it's early in the season but we played two other courses in the past week and their fairways were much more lush.
That being said, the greens rolled fast and true, and every staff member we encountered here was very nice to us. However I would try other courses before returning.
great greens
The wind was a killer. Would love to play a few more times under better conditions.
Busy for a Monday, but pace was good.
good course
Love the course but didn't play die to wind but will go back
Good layout but rediculously fast and undulating greens
I am a 5 handicap and have played courses all over the country, but the greens at Cypress Lakes are rediculous and unfair. I normally like fast greens as long as they run true. These greens were covered with spike and ball marks and they are as hard as a rock! The day I played was windy and the ball would roll around due to the wind. One hole I had an uphill put and hit it just past the hole, the ball stopped and began rolling back down the hill. This kind of thing was not the exception but rather the rule on nearly every green. It made the course unfair and I will not go back to waste my money.
Winter greens were in great shape, but very fast!!!
I played yesterday. It was a little cool, and a lot windy!
The course is in the midst of an ongoing housing development, but doesn't have that feeling. The design isn't cramped by the homes. They have made good use of the land to not have the layout compromised by the residential real estate.
Overall it's a nice facility. The clubhouse isn't ostentatious by any means. But, gets the job done. There is a small pro shop and small snack bar positioned between the nines.
It is still winter golf. So, playing conditions are just that. The course was in very good condition for the time of year. The greens were unbelievably FAST!!! I think that I have putted on kitchen floors that might have been slower! Three birdies and three three putts!!! One downhill putt that I barely touched from about 30 feet went 20 feet past the hole! lol Probably somewhere between 12-14 on the stimp meter!!! Maybe more! With the grass being very dry and dormant, add in a little down hill and down wind, and there was nothing to help slow the ball down. I'm anxious to play here under normal conditions.
The layout was challenging enough. But had plenty of opportunities for scoring. Some "local knowledge" is a bonus on a couple of holes. Especially two of the par 5s. The 2nd hole is a par 5 with water down the whole right side and a dogleg to the right at the end before the green. I hit my drive down the middle. Hit a hybrid to lay up at 100, right down the middle. And when I got up there, a tree on the right side of the fairway to the left of the water completely blocked any approach to the green!!! lol Easy to avoid, but you have to know that it is there! There was another one on the back that got me as well.
There are courses that are a little less expensive to play for sure. But, for the few extra bucks, if you play a better course, it's worth it.
I'll be back to play here again for sure.
