Rio Hondo Golf Club

About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Narrow but fun
Course is in good condition with the exception of the sand traps. Seems like most LA County courses have the worst sand traps around. Lakewood golf course is the same exact way. I think it’s at least thing or something. Anyways the course was pretty fun pace is pretty solid Only got nine holes in had to leave early and it was hot as balls. If they fix the traps I’ll come back.
Worst Experience Ever
I’ve never seen 4 groups waiting to play the 8th hole, but it happened at Rio Hondo on a Wednesday afternoon. Close to 3 hours to play 9 so I walked off at the turn despite paying for 18. Don’t know what they’re doing with their tee times but it was absolutely atrocious. It’s a shame too because the course is in decent shape but avoid it if you can if you’re in LA.
Turtle Could Walk Faster Than You’ll Play
6 hour round at 12:52pm on a Friday. If you like waiting 10-15 minutes on every hole this is your course. $55 to sit in a golf cart all day. Condition of the course is the only thing this course has going for it and it’s just okay. Greens are very very slow, will mess you up at a halfway decent course. 3 star difficulty because it’s very challenging to take a 15 minute break between every hole and still play well.
Beautiful and nice course layout
I enjoyed a lot at this course. Beautiful and nice.
The course was great for trying for birdies as it there were no uphills and lots of flat and ground.
Overall good
It was overall good , everything even weather was not to hot nice breeze
They ask for cart fee twice
I pay for online, but they still ask the cart fee again
Good Golf Course. It is Public, May Have Fools
Great course. Only problem is balls do go everywhere lol because it is narrow. People are very nice. Expect driver every whole if playing blues.
Good Course!
It was our first time playing this course. We’ll definitely be playing here more often.
Hidden Gem!
This was my first time playing here. I initially thought it was going to be another Los Amigos (don’t ever waste your time playing there). The course is in fantastic shape and the greens were well taken care of. Yes, you’ll run into your occasional hackers…just play past them (it’s okay, you were once new to golf yourself). Pace of play for a Saturday was not bad at all. I’d definitely play there again.
POP is terrible. Course needs some work
Pace of Play is a MAJOR issue here. Afternoon tee time took 5 hours. FIVE HOURS at a SHORT COURSE that is only 6300 yards and is FLAT with no hills!!! Embarrassing. And there are no marshals helping push everybody or help look for errant balls.
I used to think this was a decent place to play. But not any more. Not until they fix this pace of play issue, not until they educate the hacker public new to the game about etiquette and keeping up with the group in front.
Course needs work too. Some fairways are really thin, barely passable. Greens also need more rolling smoothing.
Course is only 6400 yards, guys. And it’s flat. Sure it has a couple likes and a couple of the Par 3s can be tricky. But a short course like this should take less than 4 hours. Period.
Golf courses and supers and industry minders need to rein this in. It’s getting beyond ridiculous. All they seem to care about is selling alcohol. We’re there to play golf. So take care of the pace!
GolfNow needs to remove these fake reviews written by the people who work at the place to try to promote their own place. Ridiculous
