Rio Hondo Golf Club

About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Good tee time, weak body!
As I've said before, It's a well kept track and tight layout. The more you play it, the the better you choose your next target. But if you miss it, the hole will make you pay.
Nice course
Overall nice course. Greens were a little bumpy, but a good overall nice experience.
Nice Day
Joined 3 fellows for some golf on a nice summer afternoon. We all had fun, but the course won (at least in my case).
Not as good as the last time
I played Rio Hondo last year and the course conditions have dramatically declined since then. It's sad because the layout is amazing. Lots of muddy spots and banged up greens.
3 hours 15 minutes for 9 holes
The course just plays really slow. When we would drive to the par 3s there were at times 2 groups waiting. They have no marshal to regulate pace of play and because of this the following happened.
Our tee time was for 4:04 but we didn’t end up teeing off til 4:20. No marshal to guide the groups.
- the group in front of us had 3 golf carts. 2 girls only paid spectator fees but were actually playing. They were delaying their group because now it added 5 people to their group. The girls didn’t play well so that’s that. A marshal would have caught this.
- the group behind us kept hitting their ball onto us. They thought we were playing slow but we weren’t the ones holding anyone up. We played ready golf, gummies so we wouldn’t waist time putting, and quickly dropped a ball if we couldn’t immediately find our ball. A marshal would have seen this and perhaps talked to the group behind us.
The course is very green, challenging, and fun. Beautiful course but I don’t know why there were a lot of water puddles not marked with the small pink flags. First time here I did expect better course management.
Slowest 9 Ever in My 30+yrs golfing
For a Weds at 940am round, I thought 5hr round would be achievable. Played here couple years ago and had good memories. Was warned from the get-go by a local upon waiting to teeoff that Weds are their "mens" day and they consist of 70 to 90 yr olds. He also advised only way to play here at good pace is by playing the earliest tee times. God bless them but this is a 6400+ yard course into strong winds. We managed to finish 9 holes in 3hrs25mins before going back to the proshop to give them our feedback. The manager gave us 9hole rain checks which was a great gesture, but after this experience, I won't be going back. This course is dominated by local hacks who play at 7hr round pace without a world of care. No marshals and of course balls "disappear" in middle of fairways as well. They've got to do something about this as this course has gone down hill.
Rio Hondo Golf Club
Although we only played 8 holes (super twilight) we liked the course. Nice layout and a couple water holes on the front nine
Slooowwww
I left after 13 holes. Four hours to that point.
Golf is no fun when all you do is stand around waiting for some dope who can't hit it out of his shadow while he plays from the wrong tees. Not one golfer in ten can play this course from White tees @6500 yds, much less Blue. And on the first tee, sure enough, four guys in their 70's, complete with two walkers, teed it up from White. End of round.
Starter needs to verify handicaps, or course needs to modify the tee boxes.
Rio hondo golf course
No Marshall's on the course for $80.00 you would think the pace of play would be under 6 hours groups in front of us had no clue what they were doing driving carts on to the tee boxes tried telling what they can or cannot do told us to mind our own business called the pro shop no help.
Staff needs to keep the flow to 4 to 4.5 hours rounds.

Great course!! Pace of play last time was ok but only because 1 slow foursome. Keep up the pace guys!!!
Nice layout, but bad hole planning causes back up on the course.
Putting a 230yd par3 right after a 170yd par 3 causes ridiculous back up on the front 9. They should shorten the 230yd to a 120yd par3 to speed up the pace of play.
