About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Front 9 layout complicated
Course layout for the front nine was confusing (#3 and #6). Need to upgrade the board marking at tee #3 (cart turn around was somehow misleading) and very difficult to know hoe to get to hole #6. This means that front 9 course layout is not quite good to fill nine holes in a very limited space, and accordingly players may meet unexpected and unnecessary challenges. While front 9 was challenging, the back 9 looked much easier to me without many challenges.

Just ok
This course is ok I guess, the staff was friendly and the facilities were good, but the course itself needs some work, greens were pretty bumpy, there was some dirt especially in the second cut areas and a little in fairways spots too. Play was on the slower side with the course design loading the par 3’s together so we definitely got backed up and even got hit into a few times. Also, the driving range isn’t grass, which I dunno who can hit off the mats but it doesn’t really allow for actual practice taking a divot and whatnot. This is about par for the course(forgive the pun) for this price range and quality in SoCal. Honestly had I known I would’ve just played something like DeBell which can be quite a bit less expensive and just slightly worse conditions or even just pay the c note to play LA county national but if it’s close and the price you get is right not the worst place you can play. Just a note that maybe I’m a little tough on courses originally being from FL and being used to solid courses for under 50 dollars so do with this information what you will.

Great Course
This is a fun and well maintained course with a challenging layout. Range is nice and the putting green was sandy.
Starter was very pleasant and the pace was tolerable. The greens sucked a little though. They were micro punched hoppy and slow. Otherwise a great day on the course.
