About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Pace of play
Pace of play is very poor wait every shot.
Green is too slow and too hard.

Well designed course with narrow fairways and maintained greens. The pace of play was extremely slow. Tee off at 2:20 and only made it to hole 15 before it was too dark.

Pleasantly Surprised by my round at Rio Hondo.....
If you've read the online reviews about Rio Hondo, you might agree that it's a mixed bag of 1-star and 5-star reviews, and everything in between. My recent Sunday afternoon round there was 5-stars across the board.
First thing I noticed was a large parking lot, with plenty of open spaces and no having to look around and trying to find a spot. The guy in the pro shop was pleasant and cordial while I paid for my 120pm tee time. We teed off right at 120p, no waiting or backups, just an empty first tee box. The course itself, in my opinion and for the money, was in great shape from the tees through the greens. I was actually impressed with the courses condition considering the volume of play they get there. The course layout was good. No elevation changes, but a variety of longer and shorter par 4s and a couple pretty tough par 3s. We saw the cart girl twice while we were out there, and she was very nice as well. As far as pace of play, for this Sunday afternoon round was what I was left most impressed with. We teed off at 120p and we were returning the carts a few minutes before 6p, so it was a little more than a 4.5 hour round, on a Sunday afternoon.....
In summary I had a great round at Rio Hondo, not a single complaint comes to mind. I'd also happily recommend this course to anyone who were to ask. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
