The Reserve at Orange Lake Resort

About
There are two 18-hole championship courses and two nine-hole courses at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The Reserve is the newer of the championship golf courses although technically it could be considered the older of the two. Originally designed in 1982 by Joe Lee, 16 years before the Arnold Palmer-designed Legends was added, the course was completely redesigned in 2005. New water features and more sand were added and seven holes were rerouted and redesigned. One hole that was made more challenging was the fifth hole. A long par 4 was transformed into a long par 3 that plays to almost 215 yards. In addition to the four golf courses, Orange Lake also boasts a lighted driving range and putting green as well as two chipping greens, one which features a sand bunker.

Quality Round at the Reserve
I typically make an effort to play the Legends course but since they were punching the greens, I opted instead to play the Reserve course. It is a small step down from the Legends but a quality round for the $50 GN fee.
I did prefer the front nine more so than the back as most the holes wind through the secluded trees whereas the back, you have several holes with houses on both sides of the fairway (particularly 10 & 11) which I personally don't care for.
Pace of play was excellent for an early morning around and check in was efficient. As noted by earlier comments, pro shop is contained within the Marketplace, but there is a bag drop area, you ring the bell and individual promptly puts your bag on a cart.
Greens were tad bit slow but rolled true and every sand trap I looked at was efficiently raked the day previous.
All in all, a good quality round.
Challenging Layout
This was my first time playing this course. The course is challenging with water in play on most holes. The score card does not show course layout or pin placement. You will need to pay attention to your golf phone GPS to know where to hit the ball. The greens were slow but seemed to get a bit faster as they dried out.
Be aware of residents walking the course, which was annoying at times. Really surprised that there are no rangers on the course to keep residents out of danger.
I would rate higher if course layout was provided and course managed better.
Great Day
It was a good day of golf. If I had recommendations, it would be better signage on the course (Preserve). Also, a refreshment cart would have been great.
Much Better than Anticipated
First time playing the reserve having already played Legends, I found the conditions to be quite comparable. This course was certainly challenging from the tips and very tight at spots. Enjoyable layout and the par 3's were beautiful. If they only dropped the rate $10-20 to equal comparable courses in the area, I could see this being a regular spot for me when I am in Orlando.

Enjoyable experience playing with my son on a beautiful day and excellent and fun course!
The Reserve
Kudos to the staff for bringing this course back from the goat track to which it had devolved under prior management. A real joy to play.
The Reserve
Nice course. Was apprehensive due to some of the reviews, but they were wrong. This is a nice course and it was in great condition. It's in a resort so keep it straight or you will have house trouble. Water is also in play. It's busy and the community members do walk the course while you are playing, which would be the only negative. That said the course was in great shape. Challenging but not super difficult. Greens were fast and true. We were 2 foursomes and played in about 4:10. Fun time, will return! Staff was friendly and helpful.
READ BEFORE YOU PLAY
The course itself, which I care about most, is great! Nice layout, receptive greens, the course itself was in good shape. Things you should know and anticipate-poorly run. I drop my bag, kid says I’ll be right back with a cart...15 minutes later I walked back behind the marketplace (their clubhouse) and grabbed a cart myself. ZERO rangers, starters, beverage carts. It’s run by kids. Groups just lining up on the tee, and even a 5some I bypassed. My biggest beef-The score card has no layout or hole presentation whatsoever. No yardage book in the clubhouse. Nada. With some forced carries, knowing how far it needs to be hit would be extremely helpful. IMPORTANT-If you click the location on this app ifor
directions it will take you 20 minutes from the course. Then I googled the address and it takes you to the wrong side of the property. To find this place GPS the intersection of 192 and Orange County Blvd. Youll be at the entrance. GREAT COURSE. It’s just the little things that suck.
Typical Florida course with lots of water
Overall course was in good condition and good value for the money. Lots of water and wooded areas so bring extra balls if you aren’t the straightest hitter. 3 sets of tees with longest at about 6500 so not a bad test for a low handicapper. We played as a twosome in about 4.5 hours so not a bad pace of play but I can see rounds in excess of 5 on real busy days. As course is located within Orange Lake Resort the buildings are right on top of you on about half the holes. Other than that I’d recommend the course and return again.
Poorly mantained. Pro-shop is more like a gas station.
Good value
A little narrow in places with firm fast fairways. Greens were quick and lots of break but rolled true. Overall a good course for the money. I would play again.
Have booked another tee time for this course
Well maintained and The length of the course from the forward tee box was just right for my game. We will be playing this course several times during our month long stay.
Decent enough value for dollar-no hole layout pics or GPS
The grass was reasonably good for winter. Greens a bit slow and bumpy. Some very pretty holes. Most are woven through the condos. Pace of play was great.
Our one big complaint was that there was no GPS and no hole maps at the tee box or on the card. Too many surprises (e.g. water) on many holes were the result. This is unacceptable in my view and made it hard to agree I’d recommend th3 course to a friend based on price point.
Cost for range balls is also excessive in my view. .30 balls for $8.00.
Simply wow!
We played here a while ago and decided to stop playing the course because the conditions were just mediocre. New management has done a great job working on it. Greens are a bit slow but in great shape. Fairways and tee boxes in excellent shape. Definitely playing it again! Can’t wait to visit the Legends.
