Santa Maria
I wasn't going to write a review but since its been a over a year since the last I figured why not. The course is in the best shape ive seen it in the past couple years. Greens need some work but its coming out of winter so they should be fine by now. They were punched a few days before we played so as good as they possibly could have been. like the driving range. I would consider it one of the nicest in the baton rouge area. None are better within 25 miles. Spring time golf should be fun. With all the rain we have gotten lately course should be in great shape in the coming weeks. I will be playing this course along with Pelican Point in Gonzales. In the baton rouge area those are the top 2 courses. Everybody should enjoy their round.
Always an enjoyable experience.
This is the course to which all local courses are compared. For a municipal course, the quality is unrivaled. The greens are well manicured and true. The landscape alone is worth the greens fee. The staff, for the most part, is always very friendly. From the guys in the pro shop, to the Marshall - Mr. Les (whose generous advice saved me a few strokes that day), their love for the game is evident. I must have caught the snack bar attendant on a bad day, so I'll give her a mulligan.(Smile, darlin', it goes a long way) Whenever I'm asked by one of my many out-of-town guests, I always recommend this course and will continue to call it my favorite.
Course has fallen off a ton
First time I played out here in several years and the course seems to be slipping quite a bit. It used to be very well maintained and was one of the nicer courses BREC has to offer.
Now, the service is mediocre, at best, and the course itself is in need of some care (lots of dead areas, especially in the fairways, even though its not cold enough for that yet). The guy I played with was in from out of town and had to rent clubs - the set they gave him wasn't even complete. No putter and no iron under a 6, only a couple of poor excuses for a hybrid (he didn't think to check until we were underway and needed a 5 iron). Upon our return to the clubhouse, we communicated this to the guy behind the counter. His response was something along the lines of, "Oh well, it could've been worse. It's not really that big a deal. Maybe you should bring your own clubs next time." Wow.
On top of it all, our cart was dysfunctional throughout the round and barely got us back (though admittedly, that could've just been bad luck). We could have returned it, of course, but that would've meant interrupting the round and screwing up the flow of the golfers behind us. Overall we left very unimpressed and disappointed in what used to be a pretty nice course. It's much more comparable to Webb and City Park now than it is to Beaver Creek and Copper Mill. A shame.
Course was fun to play.
My son and I havent played in awhile. We chose the right place to get together again. Great course in good shape, staff was friendly. Will be back for sure. We had a wonderful time.
Nice course on a beautiful day
Course was 90 degree because they had seeded fairways which will be great for later.....same for tee boxes.....didn't create any issues...property was well maintained, including club house and bathrooms......staff friendly ....will be back
Nice Course, some risk and reward holes, overall, enjoyed
Overall, was a nice course, the greens were fast that day, but ran true. Nice golf course.
This course is fantastic !
very good range ! Nice practice green and approach range.
Superb shape
With the heavy rains the previous two days, the course drained well and the greens were true. Fairways in great shape and I liked the new flags for visibility.
Very good course for the money !
My son and I played this course in September and it was in very good shape. Challenging course with lots of water and places to get in trouble, but fair to the average golfer. The greens were about medium speed and consistent. Overall we would recommend this course.
Rainy day
Got the course for just 20 bucks. However it was in the pouring rain. The first 8 holes I was fighting a storm. But after it was done the next 10 holes were wide open with no one on the course. The best part was I shot my greatest round.
I like the setup of this course.
Course is maintained, and in excellent shape. Greens are in great shape. Balls rolling real good on the green.
Great course!!! Highly recommended!!!!`
Great value for the money. Course is challenging, but very playable for all levels.
Santa Maria es Muy Bueno!!
I come to Baton Rouge on business once a month, and always make it over to Santa Maria. Immaculate greens (but slick & fast), wide fairways, and just a beautiful track.
Beautiful course
Love playing this course for the value and course is in great shape.
Excellent course for the location and price.
The course was in very good shape. Even though the greens were not super fast they were in excellent condition. Even from the blue tee boxes the course played very fair and challenging for us. We thouroughly enjoyed the day and will be back.
I always have a good time at Santa Maria
Santa Maria always gives me all the challenge I want when I play there. The blue tees are a good challenge, but If you hit it 260+ off the tee consistently, the tips will give you everything you can handle, and have a great time as well. The greens were excellent, even after the Baton Rouge Amateur Tournament was last week. The greens hold well, but are not that fast (maybe 9-10) on the stimp. If you are into fast greens like I am, Lakewood in New Orleans is the course for you (they consistently are between (11 and 12). Regardless, they rolled well. The fairways were in great shape and the ball sits up, leaving favorable lies on the short grass. I am not a fan of hitting off of hard-pan like so many courses have been doing as of late with cutting their fairways so close. Pace of play was great. 4 hours on the dot with the heat index at 102 is quick. The staff even ran out on the course with free Gatorade as a courtesy to help hydrate the players.
I love this track. It has great drama and plenty of risk reward to offer. It even has some sucker pin placements for the strong willed that fire at every flag. I will play there many times this season.
Great value for the dollar
Course was in good conditon and pace of play was good. The staff in the pro shop could have been a little more welcoming and friendly.
Great Trent Jones course
Course was in great shape. Greens had been plugged recently and were a bit slower than usual, but still putt true and were challenging. Mid week playing times are usually 4 hours or less. Bunkers could use a little attention(can easily bottom out and hit clay in some of them), sand is a bit uneven. Some hadn't been groomed in days. Otherwise considering the recent rains it was quite dry and played firm.
Good Course
Good course but greens had been aerfied 3 weeks ago and are still very rough. Very hard to putt on.
Nice course
This is a great course. Greens had just been punched and there had been lots of rain so conditions were a little rough. I like this course and it is very challenging and fun to play.
