I always have a good time at Santa Maria
Santa Maria always gives me all the challenge I want when I play there. The blue tees are a good challenge, but If you hit it 260+ off the tee consistently, the tips will give you everything you can handle, and have a great time as well. The greens were excellent, even after the Baton Rouge Amateur Tournament was last week. The greens hold well, but are not that fast (maybe 9-10) on the stimp. If you are into fast greens like I am, Lakewood in New Orleans is the course for you (they consistently are between (11 and 12). Regardless, they rolled well. The fairways were in great shape and the ball sits up, leaving favorable lies on the short grass. I am not a fan of hitting off of hard-pan like so many courses have been doing as of late with cutting their fairways so close. Pace of play was great. 4 hours on the dot with the heat index at 102 is quick. The staff even ran out on the course with free Gatorade as a courtesy to help hydrate the players.
I love this track. It has great drama and plenty of risk reward to offer. It even has some sucker pin placements for the strong willed that fire at every flag. I will play there many times this season.
Great value for the dollar
Course was in good conditon and pace of play was good. The staff in the pro shop could have been a little more welcoming and friendly.
Great Trent Jones course
Course was in great shape. Greens had been plugged recently and were a bit slower than usual, but still putt true and were challenging. Mid week playing times are usually 4 hours or less. Bunkers could use a little attention(can easily bottom out and hit clay in some of them), sand is a bit uneven. Some hadn't been groomed in days. Otherwise considering the recent rains it was quite dry and played firm.
Good Course
Good course but greens had been aerfied 3 weeks ago and are still very rough. Very hard to putt on.
Nice course
This is a great course. Greens had just been punched and there had been lots of rain so conditions were a little rough. I like this course and it is very challenging and fun to play.
good value and well maintained
Located just over an hour from the French quarter, the course is designed by Robert Trent Jones. I've played many courses designed by the same designer in Alabama so I had a feeling the course would be a challenging but fair.
The club house was nothing spectacular in fact very basic but the course was in good shape and the greens rolled nicely but didn't have much undulation. The course went under renovation in 2006 and several million dollars were spend upgrading the course. There's 15 lakes on the course and is just under 7000 yards from the back tees.
I found my golf day at Santa Maria to be good and the pace of play was around 4 hours which is fast for a Sunday and the course was in good shape.
Great
Course is really good sharp and getting better. Greens rolling true.
great value for the caliber of course
course well maintained considering weather conditions as of late(RAIN). Staff extremely accomodating as in combining single with single, singles with 2 more etc. BEST VALUE IN TOWN!!!!!
A good course with a decent price
This golf course is usually in okay condition. It has its moments where it isn't in great shape but can also be amazing at times. The price is just slightly steep for a public golf course, in my opinion. Overall, a good golf experience in Baton Rouge.
Everyone in club house are friendly and helpful! We felt welcomed.
Great course at a great value and a helpful staff.
Decent course, good conditions, but RTJ design?
The description says that Robert Trent Jones designed the course. I have trouble with that statement, because, to me, it didn't look or feel like his designs. The course is a good course that is well kept and playable by all levels of golfer. The practice facility needs a little work. Overall, a good choice for the Baton Rouge area.
Enjoyable course
After all the rain we've had, the course is in pretty good condition. The greens are very nice, rolling true, but the overall speed was slower than the practice green. Overall, an enjoyable afternoon on a very nice course.
Great course!!
The only negative was 24 hours earlier over an inch of rain fell. The sand traps had standing water and some of the fairways had standing water. But most of the course was still in great condition.
great course, staff less than friendly
Great bang for your buck with Santa Maria at this price, but the staff did not seem pleased that I had booked with golfnow.com. half the course was closed due to standing water and the staff didn't want to give us a rain check, no matter because golf now.com was helpful and accommodating as always.
A good challenge
Good challenge for the 12-18 handicap player. Good, fast greens, forgiving fairways.
great course
Awesome Course! I'm from Georgia and every time I come to Baton Rouge, I play this course. I has great greens and the course is challenging from every set of tees for all levels of golfers. I love the finishning hole (#18). Reached in two from 200 across the water to 8 feet above the hole. Just missed eagle on the lip and tapped in for birdie!
This course has good practice facilities: Driving range, chipping/bunker green, 2 putting greens.
For the money, you can't beat this course. It is always kept in good condition. Drainage is a problem after heavy rains, but other than that, the course is great.
Good Public Course
SM is a good public course that needs more maintance because of the frequency of play. Otherwise a good value and fun.
Very good golf course
I like this golf course, it is in very good condition and have great features, including practice facilities
