About
Heron Lakes Golf Club is home to two championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, the Great Blue Course and the Greenback Course. Both utilize the rugged natural terrain in different ways, offering challenges that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. The Greenback Course is a versatile parkland layout that is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. It is a less demanding design than the Great Blue but it still has plenty of challenges in store. There are 86 bunkers framing the elevated greens and six ponds come into play throughout however the mature trees present the most prominent threat. The par 3s on this golf course can be especially tough. The more challenging elements are nicely balanced by large, inviting greens and generous landing areas.

Warm winter day
I’m a higher handicap yet I shot a 41 on the back 9 on Greenback. Probably my best 9 ever on the course.
Slowest round ever
5 and half hour round with the group in front of us recording every shot with a tripod. Which was interesting since they spent most of their time in the woods or the hazard. Mentioned it to the cart person every time we saw her and they never sent out a ranger. Went in the clubhouse after the round and all of the staff watching Football. May never play here again and will recommend others avoid it as well.
End of season play
Amazing condition for the end of October. Who ever the crew running the course maintenance is amazing, thank you.
Nice Day at Heron Lakes
I've played this course many times. Today was perhaps the best conditions I've seen. The fairways were a bit more dry than usual, so more roll. The greens were in good shape. As usual, the bunkers were a bit wet. I was paired with locals, who were delightful.
Fun to play
It’s just a fun layout. More enjoyable than their Great Blue. I consider it target golf. Not extremely long but loads of severe dogleg rights so you have to be careful of hitting too far through the fairway. Trees and water everywhere

They need to put sand on the par 3's they are like war field with so many divots
Heron Lakes Greenback Course
Fairways and Greens were in great shape. Weather was hot in the high 80's. Pace of play was a little slow and the round took around 4-1/2 hours. I guess for a public course that's just what we get.
