No mowing
Rough was 10” thick, fairways were as long as the rough. Seems as though they haven’t mowed in 3 weeks. Normally a great course and great conditions. But to pay full price for a course where you lose your ball in the rough on almost every hole is silly.
Course condition
Feel like the grass has not been mowed for a few weeks - fairways are like rough in other courses, the grass on the rough are so tall that they all fall down side way (almost impossible to chip). We have trouble finding balls in the fairway let alone in the rough. We lost so many balls, and spent significant time looking for our balls. This slowed down the pace. Terrible conditions!
Very Disappointed
I live in the local area and I’ve played this course numerous times over the past 15 years. It always was one of my favorites in the area. Before I even got to the pro shop to check in, I heard people complaining about the conditions and they were all correct. This was the WORST I had ever seen not only at Reston but at any course I had ever played. You could not even tell the fairways from the rough. In some cases the roughs were 8-10 inches long. Even if you hit your ball in the middle of the fairway, you had to look for it because the grass was so long. Management should all be fired for allowing conditions like this to exist. I won’t be back anytime soon!
Worse Course in DMV
This is by far one of the WORST courses in the DMV area. I have played here twice and have NEVER made it past the 14th hole because of the incredibly slow pace of play. 2.5+ hours for 7 holes is ridiculous! I called the club house to inquire if there was a ranger and the answer was "no". Club house folks didn't really seem to care since they already had your green fee...which is 30-40% higher than what it really should be. The course is not challenging and it is in very fair shape at best. You are better off at another course that is prettier, properly maintained and managed and fosters an efficient pace of play
Awful course condition
Fairways were worse than rough! Grass had not been cut in most areas and on few holes that they had cut the farways's grass, they didn't bother to collect the moved grass! Couldn't find ball even on the Fairways on many holes! They charge $40 just for the cart ($20 per person). I played there 2 weeks ago there for the first time and course condition was average, so I figured this time it will be better, but it was much worse. Not going there anytime soon...
Worst Course in Northern Virginia
Never seen a course so horribly maintained. Losing balls in the fairway, greens thick as my carpet, & tee boxes all torn up. Ohh also they were out of range balls for an hour. Can’t believe they charged full price. Heard they have a new owners, looks to ran by a bunch of libs. Won’t be back.
Go somewhere else
Save your money and go to some other courses in the area that are just as far. The ownership I think has given up on this course for the year. Maybe try it next year and see. Terrible course conditions. The fairways are so long you can’t find your ball. The tee boxes are mostly chewed up. The greens are probably rolling 3-4 speed , like apartment carpet.
DO NOT PLAY
Played this course three days after last weeks rain ended so it was very wet but the course has been HORRIBLY maintained. The greens were basically carpets, the tee boxes were either sandy and bare or completely overgrown and the worst was that most of the holes had fairway grass longer than most rough at normally maintained courses (the rough was even longer). They obviously had not mowed in almost a month if not longer so losing golf balls in a fairway was a first for our group. Did not finish our round and the club pro admitted that they recently lost their maintenance director recently but that’s no excuse for not maintaining the course at all and still charging upwards of $80 for a round. The pro did admit that a full refund was deserved but since our group had mostly booked a hot deal we had to get our refund through GolfNow. Unfortunately, GolfNow decided that since we tried to play that we only deserved compensation for the holes we did not play despite the whole course being unplayable and the staff admitting we deserved a full refund so 0 stars to GolfNow as well. Do not play this course until they get their conditions playable!
This course is unplayable. Do not play here under any circumstances.
Played Reston National Friday 10/4/24 . This course is in the worst condition I have experienced here in 12 years I have played the course. The grass has not been mowed properly for over 2 weeks. The last 2 owners of the course are speculators hoping to profit on developing the lucrative real estate of the 17th and 18th holes because they are close to the Metro. local citizens are in opposition to developing this open space.
The owners are obviously not golfers. This course used to have the most tee time starts in the state for a public course, now no one is interested in playing here with poor conditions and high greens fees.
The owners have removed original designed bunkers on over half of or more of the holes instead of fixing the bunkers properly.
The only hope of saving this course would be to sell the course to Fairfax County and transform this course in to a great course like Laurel Hills or Twin Lakes Oakes course.
Or maybe the Northern VA Park Authority could take it over to add to Algonkian, Pohick Bay, and Brambleton courses.
Please someone save this course from further ruin..
Needs Big Maintenance
The fairways on this course were about 4” deep. Our group lost a total of six balls in the fairway. Looking for balls in the fairway, severely affected the pace of play for all groups on the course that day. The head pro, Tyler, was an absolute pro and refunded us explaining that there was a new superintendent. However, the course should have been closed until the situation was resolved.
Horrible course conditions! Do not play here!
I’ve played here several times and while it’s never been great, it’s always been okay. The “fairways” are a joke, 2-3 inches long. If you miss a “fairway” or a green by 2 or 3 feet you are in 6 inches (US open style) rough. We all played fairly well and took almost 5 hours because we had to search for balls on every hole (even in the fairway). When you got to the green they were like shag carpets. It’s hard not to think think they are biding time to sell the land. The pictures attached are a ball in the “fairway” and a ball about 5 feet off.
Unenjoyable and waste of money
If you love 6 hour rounds and fairways that look like the rough, this is the place for you! Tee'd off a bit after noon and didn't make it in until ~6PM. Waiting at every single tee box for 5-10 minutes. Then when you finally hit your drive, even if it's dead in the middle of the fairway, have fun looking for it! Seriously some of the longest fairways I have ever seen, sometimes not even being able to see first cut. Whoever manages this course should be embarrassed of themselves. I will not be coming back and will be vehemently steering anyone I know away from this course. Its sad too because the course layout is actually quite nice, but the conditions were just unplayable.
Super Slow and rough fairways
Spent 3 hours playing 9 holes and needed to get a raincheck as there wasn't any way we could finish 18 before the sun went down. The fairways were very rough, they need to be mowed. At times it very hard to find your ball in the middle of the fairway. If your ball was slightly off the fairway, you most likely lost it.
Course was in terrible condition. Fairway grass was the longest I have ever seen
Good course intermediate to good players
This was my first time playing there. Beautiful layout and long and challenging course. T box and fairways are not maintained very well.
Usually love this course but…
I’ve played here many times but yesterday wasn’t a good experience. The course really needs attention. The fairway looked like the rough, the rough looked like a field. Made the experience grueling.
Much needed improv.
Formally a member but have not come back for about 10 years and what a disappointment. Tee boxes, fairway, greens are so slow & divots over all was in real bad shape.
