Terrible Golfing Experience
Not a good golf experience at all. We had to wait until 8:05 to tee off for what should have been our 7:43 tee time. During the 6th hole a ranger approached us and told us we needed to pick up the pace as the course needed to be cleared by all groups by 1:00 due to a shotgun tournament. I told him we started over 20 minutes later than our tee time. He again approached our group on the next hole and the one after despite the fact that we were on track for a 4:20 round. Then, another ranger approached us on the 8th hole telling us that groups behind us were calling despite the fact that there was literally no one behind our group that ever had to wait! In addition, turned out they gave me a right handed putter in my left handed rental set (since I flew in from Colorado) as well as no 6 iron. At the turn, when we went into the clubhouse I asked for water at the bar (on this muggy 95 degree day) and was told by the woman working there that she wasn't allowed to give me water and that I needed to go to the water station outside near the first tee which was in the opposite direction to the 10th tee where we were headed. The course itself was acceptable but nothing special. Greens were super slow and quite a few dead patches of grass. We had no one behind us the entire back nine and finished in 4:20 at 12:25. Will never play here again.
No need for Cart Path only
I have wanted to play this course for a while now, but will not go back unless it is $30. The staff were not that friendly. The course was cart path only for no good reason. When we asked at the turn, they said that it was because of the greens keeper. We he didn't do a good job either because the greens were very slow. Also, people on the course who do not belong and they do nothing about it accept tell you that you are responsible for your ball. There are plenty of courses, play somewhere else.
Very good price performer
Good layout, conditions good. Greens in good shape. All in all we were pleasantly surprised.
Enjoyed it
Good crew running the course, could club hosue and snack bar, good cart girl and nice course.
Reston National
Git off a bit early. Great weather, slowed down a bit on the back because a twosome in front of us was slow.
Typical Public Course
Greens and fairways had recently been aerated which made putting a nightmare. Fairways had plugs everywhere. We had to constantly move our balls out of holes and behind plugs. When we scheduled we were not told about the aeration and when we checked in again no comment about it.
Course is a little 'tired' and could use some updating, Bunkers were rocky and muddy. Rough was spotty. For $38 it was about what you would expect in NoVa.
Greens
Recently punched and disappointed in the putting would have liked to know this before playing I like the course but wouldn't have played with those green conditions
Always a Great Course
Course is always fun to shoot. The staff keeps the course in great shape, and the layout is interesting and slightly challenging. Pro shop is efficient and gets you out efficiently. Price is reasonable. In addition you have to try the Chili in the club house. Chef has his own special recipe.
Requested credit but no response
I and my wife did not play golf at that day because it was strong wind and cold. I t was almost unplayable conditions. So I called golf now.com and told him the situation and asked credit. He said it is company's policy to call the golf course (It is Reston GC) and let me know what he can do about it. But he never did. Disappointed.
Clubs Stolen from Bag Drop
I had just completed an early round and, on the way from the cart return to the parking lot, I placed my bag at the bag drop for maybe 3 minutes to use the restroom inside. When I came back outside, the bag was gone. I searched around the clubhouse, in the clubhouse, spoke with the starter and other patrons - nowhere to be found. There was little to no interest from the staff in assisting me at all. Once it was clear that my bag had been stolen, there was no offer to help me file a police report, no interest in sharing information about the security camera, no desire to escalate the matter internally. The most I got was "Hmm, that's strange. Let me take down your phone number in case they pop up." I eventually got an email from the GM saying that he'd give me a call later that week. Never received any call, nor have my clubs "popped up."
Reston National - A pleasure to play
well maintained, very fair course. No gimmicks, just straight up nice golf course. AND great drainage!
It's fine...
Overpriced most of the time. Staff isn't friendly, but not rude either. Pace of play is terrible on weekends. 5.5 hour rounds aren't uncommon.
Would only play again via 'Hot Deals'
I played this course 5 years ago and wasn't impressed. I recently played for $41 using $10 off of a Hot Deal for Sept 25, 2016 and I'm glad I had the discount code because There is NO WAY this course is worth the rack rate of $87. Most of the tee boxes are sand pits, several of the greens are completely bare in spots and the rough in several places is just unseeded mud. The bright spots are the bunkers (good sand) and the driving range...unless they've closed half of it to accommodate the two kids that showed up for their instruction classes. Thanks to a competing Redskins game, our pace of play was good (3:45). If you truly want an $87 course in the NoVa area...go play Bull Run or Laurel Hills. I would only play Reston again if I could get a Hot Deal price below $50.
Course was pretty beat up
I haven't played at Reston in several years......mostly because I would get frustrated by the pace of play. I found a "hot deal" for a weekday round so I thought I would give it another try. The pace on a Thursday was fine, but the course was in pretty rough condition. Huge clumps of crabgrass on most holes (which of course, where my ball always seemed to be), total lack of grass in places (including on tee boxes), and the greens were in pretty rough shape 2. (our threesome commented on 2 holes that actually had good greens, but that's a poor average!). Bottom line: sure glad I had a Hot Deal!
Location!
The course is pretty nice but the weekend price is way too high for what this course offers.
It should be priced at $60 for a weekend round.
But it is the location that drive the price, not the quality.
Beautiful Course, staff just ok
Nice course although the practice range is way below the quality of the course.
Also I rented clubs here and they were expensive and not good at all, different kinds of shafts in the same set and they were dirty.
Still using explosion engine carts, Really???
The course is beautiful though and the landscape amazing. Worth to play but bring your own clubs next time.
Pretty nice neighborhood course
A little pricier for what it is, but in fairness I did play on a Saturday... Joined up with a few friendly helpful locals who seem like they play the course fairly often. It was in good shape, wasn't overly difficult.
