Pace of Play an issue
They book tee times 8 minutes apart, you wait at every hole. 5 hours for a Friday afternoon round by myself. this was horrible.
Slow Slow Slow
I play Reston regularly and normally the pace of play isn't the best but this round was horrible. It took almost 3 hours to play the front. I didn't see a marshal at all. The pace of play is a constant struggle at Reston. I would probably try to play more but knowing there no chance of a "quick" round I wait for when I know I have plenty of time to stand on a tee all day and wait.
An Average 18
Greens had been airrated week or so ago and were slow and uneven. Course showed end of summer ware. Pace was unusually good, no delays. Other than favorable location the whole experience was average.
Great course at a good price. Pace of play average
I highly recommend Reston National. It's a great course to play, and you can get some very good deals online. The carts come with GPS. It's nice for yardage to green as well as off the tee to avoid fairway bunkers, etc.
They put tee times every 8 minutes, which backs things up. So just be prepared to have to wait on shots. We were ready to go 15 minutes before our tee time, but didn't go off until 12 minutes after our scheduled tee time. The course was full, and it just gets backed up easily. (Some of the course regulars may get a little upset about this...a 2-some yelled at our 4-some on another occasion for pace of play even though we were on a 4 hour pace.)
Staff is very friendly, so this course is an easy recommendation.
Average experience on a nice layout
The overzealous starter had the group behind us hitting into us off the first tee. We were interrupted several times by the Marshall on the back nine because the cart thought we were behind pace after letting a group play through on ten tee after stopping at the turn. The greens were littered with ball marks. However, the layout is fun and interesting. I hit most of the clubs in the bag which always makes rounds more interesting in my opinion. I would certainly go back, but would hope for better green conditions.
Great Course, a Little Overbooked
I live locally and play Reston National several times a year. I keep coming back because I like the staff and the conditions and rates are reliably do-able. My only beef with Reston is that they sometimes overbook the course, usually spreading their tee times by only 7-8 minutes. When you combine that with the getting stuck behind a slower group (people pulling out ball retrievers to see how many golf balls they can find in a creek), it can set you up for a 5+ hour round. Aside from the pace issue, I have nothing bad to say about Reston National. The course is in beautiful shape, it is easy to get to, and the staff is really friendly. The fairways are sometimes narrow in width and the rough is challenging but it won't crush you. There is a nice mix of strategy and length required, but if you're smart and moderately accurate it's a really fair course. There are no blind shots or gimmicks. For first-timers, they have navigation in every cart which shows you how far you are from every creek and bunker, plus a yardage to the flag and front/back of every green. When I played yesterday the greens were a little slow and bumpy but that is to be expected after a few days of rain. Usually they have some of the best greens in the area. Over the years I have seen a lot of wildlife out at Reston - deer, foxes, bald eagles, hawks, snakes, turtles, and a variety of colorful birds. If you're playing Reston for the first time, don't expect Augusta, but expect a fun day at a fair rate at one of the best local public courses in Fairfax County.
Top 5 Course I've Played
Just played here a few weeks ago and it is the nicest course I've played in this area. The tee boxes are in excellent condition, fairways are lush, and greens are challenging and smooth. We had a foursome so the pace of play on a Sunday was perfect, if you are playing with three or less on a weekend I'd expect to be waiting seeing as how every tee time is booked so there is no room to pass by someone. The staff is friendly and the food is your typical golf course food.
Poor Customer Service
We were playing during the twilight time. We called ahead to make sure we could make it out. Upon arrival, the pro shop employee was unaccommodating to the point that we were ready to leave and play somewhere else. He wouldn't recognize our golfnow pricing. Throughout the course, there were many people walking for leisure (with pets). There were children around the fairways. I had concerns about whether this was a safe environment! If traveling again to the area, I would not go back to this course.
Very nice course
Playing as a single, I was paired with two other singles who preferred to play the back tees. I normally play mid-tees so this gave me a new perspective as I was playing longer approach shots. The course was in very good shape including the rough which was consistent. Most bunkers had good sand also. Greens were great if you like soft and somewhat bumpy. Course layout is quite varied both in direction and elevation so no two holes the same.
Pace of play is only complaint as I was unable to finish the last two holes due to impending lighting in the area which the groups ahead seemed unconcerned about. We were already at nearly 5 hours for the round at that point, but it was a Saturday with all the happy hackers out and about sigh.
Nice Course--Fair Challenge
This was my first time at Reston National and loved it. Friendly staff, nice layout, and quick round for a Sunday. The course was in great shape and I finished in under 4 hours, amazing for a Sunday. The course is fair, but challenging. Great price on Golf Now, I will be back soon!
My Favorite Course in the Area
My favorite course in the area. Course is in great shape and is challenging but straight forward. The staff is always friendly and they do a good job of spacing groups. This course is at the top of my list when I'm looking to play on the weekends !
Great course with a friendly staff
This course was in great shape when I played. The fairways were excellent, the rough was pretty well maintained, and the greens were smooth. However, one of the best things I experienced was the friendliness of the staff- from the salesman in the clubhouse to the starter. They were friendly and talkative and wanted to ensure my buddies and I were having the best experience possible. Pace of play was a little slow starting out but picked up as we went on. Likely due to one group that finally started to feel the rush of the many foursomes behind them. Overall, I really like this course. It's a good value, especially at the afternoon rate, and it seems to always be in good shape.
Great staff and terrific value at Reston National
My friend and I were looking for a convenient place to play on a Friday afternoon, and we selected Reston National. Staff was SUPER friendly. Value was really good - modestly priced, and it included a cart. Course is well-maintained. Some people ahead of us were a little slow, but we still had a total blast. I'd also like to note I accidentally dropped a club on the course, and it was returned and the staff called me to let me know it had been found. We had a cold drink after the round, and the guy working the food area was really friendly and provided great service. We will definitely play there again.
reston
Great golf course, became my favorite. Straight forward, no gimmicks, frendly staff, reasonable rates.
Great Course
Played here on a sunday as a foursome. Pace of play was around 4 hours which is good for a sunday. Course was in amazing condition. Not a single complaint about this course. The carts had gps which is a nice feature also.
Great Atmosphere
Loved the place... Pace of place a bit slow but for the most not an issue. Course is well maintained and the staff is friendly. Would play this course again without hesitation.
Rough off the fairways was difficult to play out of
Overall course conditions were fine. Pace of play for a weekend round was surprisingly good. Played 18 holes in about 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were also moved up.
Only complaint was the condition of the rough. They need to trim it down.
Good course for the price via Web sites
Nice course but usually expensive. Well maintained. Friendly staff
Course was in great shape. Pace was slow though
I played yesterday and it matched the longest round I ever played coming in at just over 5.5 hrs, and we were delayed 20 minutes from the tee off time, so if I count that it was almost 6 hours. It is truly unfortunate because the course was in great shape and so were the greens minus a few idiots who don't fix their ball marks. For some reason these Billy Casper courses send us off every 6 minutes in the high season. That's a nightmare waiting to happen, and it did for us yesterday. But the staff is great, and the course was in good shape. I would highly recommend playing during the week if you want a normal pace. If your cool with a 6 hour round, then you won't mind the weekend. I would not recommend paying more then $50 in the middle of the day during the weekend, it's just to expensive to play here and get that kind of pace and until these courses change their tee times from 6 minutes to 8, the problem will continue.
Awesome
I was visiting Va for 2 days with my wife while she was on business. I played Reston Tue and again Wed because i liked it so much. This is the 2nd nicest public course I've ever played behind only The Golf Course at Glen Mills in PA. Staff was awesome, they found a club i left the day before and returned it. Range is very nice, and overall one of the best experiences I've had playing golf.
