GET HERE EARLY!
The course is great for a quick round before hitting the office here in Northern Virginia. The issue becomes pace, because of the courses location, it gets backed up here quick. If you get in a tee time in that 6-7 AM window, you can breeze through pretty well and have a great time. They keep pretty good care of the track, practice facilities could use a little work. Great for that $50 round instead of the $100 course.
For the most part, a good course.
Driving range was a good amenity. They had plenty of stations.
As for the course, some good and bad. The carts were equipped with GPS but too many commercials which hindered seeing your objectives. The course was in really good shape as were the greens. The only complaint was the course pace of play. A foursome in front kept waiting until the green was clear when it obvious they couldn't reach it. They were told to move faster but that didn't change the pace.
I'd still recommend the course.
Good Course
Good course with a nice practice facility. The course is a good challenge that is not overly difficult but worth the time to play. I liked the vibe of the area as they really seemed to be about their golf from the people that I met around the grounds and played with.
Reston
Course,staff and facilities are good.
Nice Layout - round was ruined by the pace of play
First the good - the course has a nice layout with interesting sloping fairways and challenging greens. The course was in good condition the greens had been aerated 3 weeks ago and were slightly bumpy but not too bad.
The round was however ruined by the pace of play - it took us almost 3 hours for the front 9 and over 5 hours for the full 18. We were waiting at every shot tee box and in the fairways.
It's unfortunate because despite being a nice course I don't think I will be returning.
Nice track, painfully slow
I went out with a customer and while the course played well - fast greens and great fairways, it took almost 3 hours to get through the front 9. We decided to call it quits after 9 holes and have lunch then head home to avoid a 6+ hour round. They had groups going off every 8 minutes and on the first tee alone there were 3 groups. Our foursome waited an average of 10 minutes per shot, per hole and it was an absolutely brutal pace of play. It was 80 degrees and sunny so that made up for some of the slowness but it was a very, very slow 9 holes. I'd love to go back because the course plays well and the layout is great but they have to do something about the abysmal pace before I go back there with so many other courses in/around D.C.
Nice Track, But...
Start with the pros:
The course was in very good shape. The greens rolled very true and were in good shape. Fairways were in pretty good shape, with some inconsistencies in the rough around the greens. If you drive the ball well, the course is not that difficult because you'll be hitting short irons into most greens. But challenging to get it close. This is probably one of the nicest public courses in the DMV. But I'm only marking it 'average' because...
Cons:
PACE OF PLAY!!! We played on a Sunday, and sure its to be expected that the round may take a bit longer. The only reason we were able to finish in five hours was because we rushed the last four holes in probably 25 minutes to beat the sunset. The round definitely would have taken five and a half (the front alone took three hours) if we hadn't rushed, if not more. Simply put, the course overbooks tee times on weekends. If you're playing late afternoon on a weekend, buyer beware.
Maybe too popular on a saturday afternoons?
I chose this course because it's close by and I got a good deal on GolfNow -- I don't know if I'll go when its amazing weather and a Saturday again though - it was jammed and as a twosome, my buddy and I waited 15 minutes a hole easy. Still had a good time -- its kept really well and people are nice there.
Very 'ok'
It's very close to my house, so it's a course I play if I'm short of time....... That said, the pace of play is very slow on weekends, so I might as well drive an extra 30 mins in some instances to play somewhere nicer. Course conditions are never that great, the layout isn't very exciting and it's not a very 'pretty' course. Overpriced at full price, just provides a close option to get out and play.
Sunny Winter golf
Course was packed due to a beautiful unexpected day in February, so pace was slow, but the weather made up for it. Course dry, Bunkers wet, Greens were variable, but in good condition. Great outing.
Great conditions for time of year!
The course was slightly wet in areas, but for the middle of January, it provided for quick greens and the fairways were green and playable.
Not bad
Course conditions were very good. Fairways were a bit tall but I'm assuming it's just precautions for the weather that is approaching. I was shocked to see people walking on the course. I bet if someone walking on the course, that isn't playing, gets hit by a golf ball the player will get sued. Not good!
nice course with golfnow rate
reston national is in nice shape this fall, the greens are fairly fast and and in great shape. it's a nice layout and has some challenging holes for any handicap. wouldn't pay the full price for this course but with a nice golf now price it's well worth it.
Reston National Golf Course Review
Got great value for money by booking a tee time through golfnow.com. just booked a few hours before I went out to play for a great price (70% off regular price)!!
course was in very good shape for the weather
Was very rainy when I played. They checked me in quickly, was able to get on the course promptly, and despite poor weather conditions, course was in very good shape. Was able to drive the cart on most fairways and greens were fast but fair.
Very impressed with the service I received and playing as a single completed my round in less than 3 hours without any rushing.
A great value and friendly staff
My first time playing here was great. I will definitely be back. The staff was very helpful.
Thanks for a great round!
Sweet greens. Even better if people fixed ballmarks!
Course is fair. More generous from the tees than you think. Pace of play good. Which has been an issue in the past here. driving range fair. Mats could be better. Course in very good shape given the hot summer. Much better condition some of the upper end courses in the area that have saved on their water bills but not their greens fees.
great shape - play it
I played early - 7 a.m. tee time. Could not see your drives off second tee as it was right into the sun, but that was the only trouble spot. Green and fairways were in very good shape, roughs were unattended and hard with lots of leaves and sticks. Great driving range right outside teh pro shop!
Reston National
Beautiful day & decent course. Acceptable later season golf.
Great course
This was a very enjoyable experience. Even though Reston National is a busy golf course, they do a great job of maintaining pace of play so you can finish in 4 hours or less. My only negative is the inconsistency of the cart GPS. It was spotty initially and we should have just requested a different cart right away instead of waiting.
