Desert Sands Golf Course
About
Located in Mesa, Desert Sand Golf Course is an executive length course with a short layout that is most suitable for beginners, but it is also a good place for golfers of all skill levels to work on their short game skills. Due to its flat terrain, the course is easy to walk with few elevation changes. The greens are remarkably fast and water hazards come into play on five holes. There are also sand bunkers scattered throughout the course. The Desert Sand Golf Course facility offers a chipping area and putting green and it is also home to a golf school.

great course for the price
Me and my wife always have fun here. The only gripe I have is the greens aren't always as smooth as they should be, and the bugs that are out there. They are tiny, and they cause damage!
Other than that, GREAT course!
Desert Sands is Accurate - No Fairways
First and likely last time playing this course.
The Good: $14 cart included for 9 holes. That’s the only good thing.
The Bad: course was already 20 min behind then the Marshall jumped some group of 5 seniors ahead of us even though their time was after. Said they were regulars and they play here all the time will go quick. He must’ve known them. Well they were not good and slowed everyone down. 2.5 to play 9 with a cart. Do not let the Marshall finesse you.
The Ugly: there is literally little to no fairway. 90% of this course is dirt. Not sand traps, dirt. You drive the ball straight into the “fairway” and huge clouds of dirt pop up. Around the green is almost all dirt so you’ll be chipping from that on your approach no doubt.
Verdict: $14 with a cart is a steal but you get what you pay for
Great beginner course
Not the best kept course, but great value for the price. Staff is friendly. Will be back again soon.
Tournament
We were rushed the entire time. There was some kind of tournament going on the same morning. Not sure why they would book public spots if they were going to try to rush you through the whole course. There was a foursome in front of us that they were constantly pushing. They told them they had to play best ball to pick up the pace. They paid the same as everyone else. Seems ridiculous. I'll try the course again, but will ask about events that day first.
D!k head rushes you
It’s not anyone else’s fault that someone set up a tournament the same day other people want to play. I don’t get why others need to be rushed but those in that tourney aren’t, money value is all the same. Y’all need better coordination with tourneys and weekend players, don’t rush those who are trying to get better.
Great Practice Course
This is a really good course for beginners who are wanting to work on their game, or players with not a ton of time to play. Very walkable course and also offers a driving range, chipping green & putting green. Hands down the best value, with the most tee times in the area. Course conditions are acceptable for the price you’re paying (~$1/hole) and the grounds team maintains the course well enough. Layout is a bit underwhelming, many of the holes feel the same but the scenery is very pretty in spots with lots of bunnies walking around.
Overall I love this course and will continue to use it to improve my game!
Extra Mile
Didn’t catch his name but the guy running the counter and picking flags up on 7/16 went above and beyond to get me out there. I booked on Golf Now at Sunland Village, tee time for 4:40… showed up and the whole place was shut down. I called around to other courses, Desert Sands answered and was helpful, happy and energetic to get me on the course! Thanks again
Worth $25 but that’s it
Starter was late so everyone was backed up. Then realized they were overbooked. Teed off 15 minutes after scheduled time. Fairways were very patchy. Pin placements were almost all on very edges of greens. Greens were overgrown with fringe growing into 8-10 edges all around each green. Had 6 or 7 holes that were backed up by two groups each. Waited 15 minutes on one hole for two groups to tee off. Granted it only cost $25 each but would not waste that money here again.
Fun course!
Staff was very friendly. No warden driving around trying to hurry you up. Great short game course. Just need more tees, and more green! Me and my wife had a great time. We will be back!
Great track for practice
This might not be the nicest golf course out there, but for the money that you’re paying and the value that you’re getting it is worth it I think it’s great for practice. The conditions aren’t terrible. The tee boxes could use some work. The greens are a little slow, but overall I have a lot of fun when I go I don’t have to wait too long for groups ahead of me if I ever have to.
Tee times
We always love playing this relaxed course. The staff is always friendly and if it’s not busy we can go out early. We had to play the back 9 twice due to working on the front 9.
