About
Located in Mesa, Desert Sand Golf Course is an executive length course with a short layout that is most suitable for beginners, but it is also a good place for golfers of all skill levels to work on their short game skills. Due to its flat terrain, the course is easy to walk with few elevation changes. The greens are remarkably fast and water hazards come into play on five holes. There are also sand bunkers scattered throughout the course. The Desert Sand Golf Course facility offers a chipping area and putting green and it is also home to a golf school.

Desert Sands
The course was backed up at hole 1 at our T time so they started sending groups off on the 10th hole. When we came back around to hole 1 they lady at the front desk comes out to tell us we only paid for 9 holes ??? I told her I booked through Golf now for 18...her reply was you got the 9 hole rate?? Wrong...I booked the twilight so it may have been a 9 hole rate but not what I booked on golf now...it was 18 holes. I continued on to finish the 18 before dark. I was a little bothered by her doing that.... She needs to communicate with her starter.

We were put with another couple that we were not told ahead of time. The course was backed up and didn’t tee off until about 30 mins after our original tee time. We paid for 18 holes but only got in 14 holes due to darkness. The grass/clover was so tall we couldn’t hardly find our balls. Bad experience. We will not return.
This was the second time we had this bad experience of being backed up! We have never had this trouble at any other course.

It was okay
The grass was really long and I lost a lot of balls on the fairway because of that. The pace was really slow and there were multiple instances where we had to wait to tee off. It just wasn’t worth the money I paid to play. Probably will not play there again. The food and the Bloody Mary’s were excellent though.
Value
Frequent player at desert sands. Value can’t be beat. That’s taken in to consideration when evaluating course conditions. Fairways on par 4’s we’re unbelievable long. They were taller and thicker then a thick rough. Extremely long. Greens have odd rye patches. Played there twice in a couple weeks like this. Outside of that grass is green and value is great.

Mow the grass
If the grass would’ve been taken care of and not completely overgrown this may have been a better review.
The four of us were loosing balls constantly because the grass was so tall. $120 for 2 people was ridiculous. We drove past Superstition Springs golf course when we left there , it was beautifully cut so the rain really shouldn’t be an excuse.

Overall great value
In short, I’d play the course again. Staff was friendly, fairways were decent, and greens were tough and engaging. Would’ve liked slightly longer Par 4s, but I knew the scorecard when I went so that’s not really a complaint.
Chipping area and practice putting green were nice for warmup. Course layout was honestly a little boring, lots of just straight shots to the greens without any hazards.
Staff was very friendly! Definitely felt welcomed. If you’re a hardcore golfer, this isn’t the place for you though as people on the course don’t have the best etiquette (noisy, walking on putting lines, hitting up, etc). This didn’t bother me other than the hitting up on us, but if you’re a purest, it will definitely bother you.
Biggest knock was pace of of play. Took 4+ hours for a par 65, which is a little wild.

Forget it
My first attempt at this review was rejected because they didn't like some of the words I chose. So much for honesty. So I deducted a few stars and will try again.
Suffice it to say that the Marshall needs some public relations training. There is a way you can talk to paying customers and a way you can't. He chose the second way.
I will be adding this course to my must miss list going forward.
Tee boxes
The tee boxes are uneven I slipped several times trying to tee off. Are you going to invest in leveling them off. I wouldn’t recommend playing here because of the awful condition of those tee boxes
The meat is in the greens
Most greens slope from back to front and have false sides to boot so they don't play as large as they look. There are tough putts to be had here. Most of the tees were chewed up. Still, I was happy to find a short notice tee time and be on a golf course that wasn't exorbitantly priced. Played with three nice guys and had fun.

Nice friendly course
This is a nice open course perfect for new or occasional golfers. The pace of play is rather slow and staff needs some customer service training.

One hour behind when starting at 1:30 pm...2 1/2 hours for the front nine and no marshals. We managed to sneak in the 18th at 5:30 pm...hope you like Par 3 holes!
