Superstition Springs Golf Club

About
The East Valley's Superstition Springs Golf Club offers one of Arizona's most testing layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Golf course architect Greg H. Nash designed the course and worked with the landscape already in place to provide the abundant mounding, wide bunkers and good-looking but tough-playing water features.
By the time he had finished with the Superstition Springs Golf Club, Nash had created a golf course that Golfweek called one of America's Best Golf Courses.
After - or before - a round of golf at the Superstition Springs Golf Club, hit up the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or drinks either inside or on the patio, which overlooks the golf course's signature hole, the ninth.

Better than the last time
Grass is still growing, good here and there but thin in a lot of places in the fairways. Greens were fast. They have made an effort to clean up garbage from the dried ponds. Still no marshal and play was slow. Beverage cart (Lincoln) is a plus. Traps were very compacted, we dropped out of most of them.
LGress
Greens were decent coming off of the overseed season. Bunkers need some love. Course layout is super but the empty ponds are unsightly for such a great track.
Not great conditions
Do not go off fairway or if you do and happen to find your ball bring it to fairway. Conditions not as per photos. Water features are all dries up so many weedy washes. Course was very busy with a slow 5some ahead of us. Would not play again!
Very Nice
Good course in nice shape. We played 3 different courses and this was the best
Not worth the time
Disappointing from prior to the start at the range (only hitting off mats but no openings anywhere prior to teeing off) all the way through to the finish. The course might have been good once but it appears to have suffered from neglect and lack desire by the club to provide a quality golf course. The rough is very spotty with a mix of very thick rough with large bare patches. The worst part of the course are the teeing areas. The teeing areas are in very bad shape with large bare patches and some have significant undulating surfaces where you had to search to find an area to hit from.
On the good side the staff were very friendly and helpful for 4 golfers who had never played the course before. Unfortunately we will never play Superstition Springs again.
Slow play, poor condition
Left after it took 2:50 to play nine holes, no ranger, greens were marginal, huge clumps of mowed grass everywhere, didn’t get our cart until 5 minutes before golf, cause they’re short carts, get in it and starter calls our name, so no range..
Slow play
Not to say this is normal, as I have golfed here a few times and the pace of play was good, but on this day we hit 4 3/4 hrs. They did not have enough golf carts and we did not get any practice time in. We got our clubs loaded on a cart coming in and straight to the t box to start our round..New carts this year..staff is friendly..
First time Player
This was the first time I played the course. I was paired with another single and had a great time with him. Excellent pace of play on the back 9. The greens were small which made it a challenge to get on in regulation. The grass areas around the greens and the bunkers were high and the mowed grass was left and was clumpy. It made looking for balls a little hard.
For the price at this time of year i would recommend this course.
Overpriced for poor condition
You would expect a course to be in great shape just opening after over seeding. It was not.
Definitely not worth the price. Most of the greens were brutal, bare patches, bumpy, and weeds. The rough around the greens was covered in thick clumps of cut dried grass. The fairways were decent, but not great like you would expect at this point. The fairway rough was pretty sparse. We agreed to roll the ball in the rough to find grass to hit from. Not one of the tee boxes were level, they were wavy and slanted???? On top of this, 4 hrs 20 mins to play, following a twosome with no one in front of them. Ranger drove by twice, but never said a word to them, Then we had guys behind us hitting drives over our heads. Crazy!!!
Great classic track, but…
I grew up playing this course when it was the premier club in Phoenix area. Back when it used to be a PGA Qualifier course it was challenging and well taken care of. It has gone through some changes more from a lack of initiative. Lots of the lakes have been drained and don’t have the beautiful appeal it once had. They are dried out pits with some trash in them. I expect this time of year to have that cleaned up and operational or transition to desert landscape like you did for hole 18. In addition, there is a lot of geese feces all over; tough to control that but it’s crazy the amount and it get all over your shoes, golf carts and push carts.
Nonetheless, it’s still a beautiful layout and post oversees in great condition. Pace of play was a little slow, but the weather is getting nice and I learn to appreciate the outdoors and be patient.
Overbooked
Arrived at the course 30 minutes before my 1:33 tee time. Had to wait until my team time to even get a cart. Took 3.5 hours to play the front 9 and was told I would not be able to finish before they closed.
Group in front of us hit 2 balls almost every shot which turned out to be a 5 and half hr round.
Course was in better condition than expected.
The course was in really good shape considering it had just re-opened after over-seeding.
