Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Pace of play was ok. Problem was we were a 2-some playing behind a four-some that at times had 2 holes open in front of them. Overall a very enjoyable round and experience.

Unexpected Surprise!

Course has lot of unique quality holes, especially the back nine rise in elevation. Unique location that would please most golfers.

Pleasantly Surprised

Back. Nine more challenging, course well maintained, and enjoyed the elevated tee boxes. Carts lack GPS,, quiet location with vast desert scenery.

Bring extra balls!

Highly unusual layout that climbs the in mountain on the front nine and does a dramatic drop on the tenth hole. Resort course feel, friendly staff, overpriced. For the time of year, the course was in great shape, especially the greens. The terrain makes for some dramatic holes and winding, slanted cart paths. Bring extra balls!

Slow play

I play this course usually as much as once a week. Almost always a four hour to four hour and 15 minute round but on Monday There was a group immediately in front of us that played at a five hour pace. Called the pro shop. They did send out a ranger that asked them to pick up the pace as they were 20 minutes behind after six holes. They didn’t pick up the pace and the Ranger never showed up again over the next 3 1/2 hours. That’s unacceptable and I’ve never seen this happen on this golf course. As the Rangers are good about enforcing pace of play. Unfortunately, I have a tee time at Lookout Mountain next week, but won’t be back until this becomes a priority with the golf course. It’s time to get a little stern with people as these golf courses are packed with golfers. These people ended up being three holes behind at the end of the day.

Great Staff

The course itself was excellent but the thing that stood out was the friendliness of the staff. From starter to ranger to cart guys to food service, they were all great.

Underwhelming value

Considering the time of year, I was quite disappointed by the overall condition.

Driving range hitting tee is uneven, and was basically like hitting out of light rough.

Fairways again were not mown very low, so they were inconsistent lengths and patchy in areas.

Hidden Gem

Great golf course. Greens a bit slow running at an 8, lots of unfixed pitch marks which seems to be the standard for AZ courses. Guess green fee’ers don’t like to repair their marks.

Nice track at a good price

Enjoy the course layout at Lookout. The course has good elevation to challenge golfers at any level. The driving range and putting green are always in good condition and not over crowded. Staff keeps things going in-time. Cars are stocked with coolers and beverage service makes sure you are taken care of.

One of my favorite courses to play with friends at different skill levels.
