Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Always fun

This course is always fun and challenging. As of beginning of June the conditions are pretty decent for the heat. I’ll play again for sure!

Disappointed in the conditions of the course.

Amazing course layout. You'll enjoy it.

However, I was disappointed in the conditions and the Mickey Mouse pin placements.

I would expected these course conditions on Labor Day, but not a day after Memorial Day. That's disappointing.

The pin placements were silly for a Tuesday.

Resort and Desert Golf in 1

Played my first round in the desert ever today. And chose this course bc it was at our resort. $200 is a bit steep for me to play golf. But it was a once in a lifetime trip. And I wanted to experience golf in the desert. The course is in good shape. There are some burnt out spots already. And I’m sure it will get baked in the summer. But the fairways and greens are both very firm and fast. Huge bounces and roll outs off the fairway. That could help or hurt depending. The first 6 and last 3 holes are pretty standard resort golf. Wide fairways. Generous greens. Holes 7-15 are spectacular as the play up and down the mountain. Have several forced carries. And the desert is always in play. Very fun to play and I would love to do it again sometime.

Beautiful Course, 5 Hour Round

First time playing Lookout Mountain on 3/19. It is a great layout with tons of elevation, conditions were great as far as I was concerned. It reminded me of Estrella or Verado without having to drive, which explains the price. Might be a challenging day if you can't drive the ball with accuracy. Not too long of a course, though. Around hole 7 the course starts showing its teeth as the fairways narrow and elevation increases. Pace of play had become an issue by about the 3rd hole with having to wait to hit every shot.

The round took a few minutes over 5 hours. The ranger was kind enough to explain around hole 13 that there was a group in front of us that felt entitled to bog down everyone else's day. Their own words, apparently. I'm not sure how that is in any way acceptable - not like I walked on the course for free? Seemed like they had intimidated the ranger. It's just a shame because I played Copper Canyon a week or so ago, also with a completely full tee sheet, and it was an under 4 hour round, for much cheaper.
