El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

Typical of course condition Photo submitted by DARoyer on 03/29/2013
Target Golf in a Desert Setting
The course is a par 72 with only 3 par fives and 3 par three holes, the majority of the par 4 holes are around 350 yards. Although relatively short most of your shots require precision to set up the hole and be able to get on the green in regulation. Most of the tees and many of the greens were raised, with a lot of undulation on the fairways, as soon as you got off the first cut you would often be playing the ball below or above your feet.
La Canada
Was signed up to play El Conquistador but was informed by staff that they had just punched that course and offered to let me slide over to La Canada instead. Greens are hard and fast, couldn't get anything to hold outside of 140yds. Otherwise course in fair summer conditions with some brown spots.
Canada course
It was a hot day so course was not busy. Course needed watering as there were some patchy greens but overall it was nice.
greens need improvement
the greens are very slow and rough. the cart paths in places are torn up
El Conquistador-Canada Course May 5, 2015
Staff was friendly, however course conditions were only adequate with many of the greens in areas totally burnt. With no marshalls assisting to speed up play, a three-some ahead of us took 4:40 minutes to play. This group proceeded to slow us and another 4-5 groups. Observed this group damaging the course by slamming clubs etc. Get some marshalls out there and maybe you can get around in a reasonable time. Do not recommend this course at all.
Relaxed golf
Great fun. Was nice that practice range was included. Course was in very nice shape. I live five minutes from the course and will go there more if I can get these twilight rates
POOR CONDITIONS
THIS COURSE IS A JOKE, THE ONLY THING THAT IS WORTHWHILE IS THE RATE. GREENS ARE FURY FAIRWAYS TOO CHOPPED UP AND THERE IS NO BEER CART, SADLY A GOOD COURSE GONE SOUTH. I LIVE 10 MINUTES FROM THE COURSE AND AM HARD PRESSED TO PLAY IT AGAIN. TERRIBLE SERVICE AND WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO FRIENDS COMING FROM THE NORTH IN THE WINTER. PIECE OF JUNK.
Canada course
Greens and overall condition was very firm. Balls would go through the fairways & rough into the desert. Very hilly course and numerous elevated greens with severe uphill chips if you missed the green. Greens were cut smooth and some putts could be made. Overall a nice afternoon.
Fun
Fun course to play, good track when you are finished no matter your score you will have enjoyed the canada course .
Oro Valley should not buy this course
Good that carts are available to travel the long distances between holes/tees.
Bunkers are terrible. Is that supposed to be sand?
Need healthier grass around the outer areas around the greens.
A few more restrooms needed.
The scratch golfer I played with did not appreciate the hard scrabble in many areas.
On this day 3/3 my friend from Pennsylvania a six handicap made these comments.
Nice but Brutal, nice staff
Canada Course was decidedly not for beginner players but since I am a glutten for punishment I gave it a shot. Beautiful course nice and green and the staff was really nice. I keep hearing people talk about the rude staff out in the world, maybe they were reacting to how they were treated. I have never had a problem with rudeness here. I was treated real nice.
Beautiful views
Excellent course conditions. Challenging track with beautiful views. Only negative about our experience was the staff -- didn't need the "country club" arrogance.
Good course to play
Enjoyed the course with two exceptions. Not enough bathrooms. And the refreshment cart only made one appearance.
Back to an old friend
Back to Az. after 5 years. Had played both courses many times for about 4 years. My wife said it felt like we were coming home. Wonderful day!
Terrible pace of play
Only saw the cart person once during a 4-1/2 hour round. Pace of play was terrible and the ranger did nothing about it.
No room for error
Nice course but small misses in accuracy lead to trouble. Raised greens and sloped fairway lead to thin rough. Thin rough allows ball to drain to hazard and traps.
Great layout
Love playing this course every year I come to Tucson
Nice course
Nice course with fair landing areas and in good condition. Excellent value for January golf.
Great time golfing
The greens are fast but uniform. Winter grass allows a great roll on the fairways. Play winter rules in the winter
The Canada track is better right now.
The O'l Man is in town for the first time since I moved to Oro Valley. He wanted to play golf every day on the 4 days we could. We chose El Conquistador - Canada (1), El Conquistador - Conquistador (2), Dove Mountain (3), Tucson National (4), in that order. I would have started with El Conquistador - Conquistador first. It was definitely the inferior track to it's sister course.
Conquistador's greens were not cut and we played on a beautiful Friday afternoon, that is unacceptable. We could tell this because they have splotches of weeds growing on the greens that had not been mowed.
Fairways were burnt out, probably from puddles of water in the fairway that were overheated by the sun.
Most of the holes contain housing developments (and thus Out of Bounds) on both sides of the hole. I feel like this detracts from the overall quality of the golf course.
Aesthetics are okay. The views are great. Vegetation is nice.
Most of the cart paths need to be repaved.
The bunkers could be better kept.
They seem to have a shortage of manpower.
Pace of play for us was 3:30. We were a 2-some who had the courtesy of playing through groups on 4 and 10. Then we hit the group of old ladies who were slower than continental drift.
The beverage cart made her way around 3 times, however, which helped make the debacle unfolding in front of us a little less irritating and slightly more humorous.
Overall, the experience was good. Is it priced well for what you are getting? No. Back in Minnesota that would have been a $35.00 - $50.00/round course.
