El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

Typical of course condition Photo submitted by DARoyer on 03/29/2013
What an AWFUL experience
Course itself was OK, average condition and layout. But everything else about it is just BRUTAL. Can't believe Troon manages this place this poorly - friendly outside staff but ignorant inside staff. The problems included:
Played on a perfect Wednesday at 11:50 and it was a 5-hour round. Foursome in front of us was brutally slow with nobody in front of them. Course stacked up behind them. Inexcusable.
No ranger on the course.
No beverage cart on the course.
Canada course never returns to clubhouse during the entire 18, so having nobody on the course at all means you're on your own for 5 hours. If staff in pro shop had at least mentioned that nobody was working on the course at all we could've at least prepared. Bad customer service and bad business - we would have bought food and drink from them prior to tee off.
Course has no yardages marked anywhere other than the 100/150/200 markers. No sprinkler heads are marked, no GPS on cart, no yardage guides... nothing. Not even a map of the holes on the scorecard, so you have no idea where holes go or how far anything is. Very frustrating, especially when playing holes where it's not all right there in front of you to see off the tee. Again... maybe something that the staff should mention before sending us out.
Inside staff is clueless. Every interaction with them made it clear they are inexperienced or poorly trained.
At one point I tried to call the clubhouse from the course. The phone number on the card goes to their tee time reservation system and puts you on hold for 3-5 minutes. It took three calls before someone ever picked up. Even then, once I was finally transferred to the pro shop, I got some clueless kid who said he was all alone in there. His only solution to the myriad of problems was to talk to the head pro when we finished. Needless to say, we will NEVER come back - especially with so many other options for golf in the area. Just a terrible golf experience. Nothing but a money grab by Troon and the city of Oro Valley with no regard for customer service.
Improved
We were pleasantly surprised as course was much improved from our previous play there. Greens were in much better shape. Like the free range balls available before play.
Very Nice
First time playing this course. Very good maintenance. Weather was stormy early that morning so it didn't appear the greens were just mowed. They rolled very true but were just a little slow but not bad by any means. Course conditions were excellent.
Thank you for you review. We're glad to hear your first time experience was excellent. Our maintenance team has done a great job this year with our course conditions. We look forward to seeing you out on the course in the future.

Great Course
Not only is Canada a beautiful pleasant course to play the views from the course are awesome.
Perfect day, friendly starter, however, no ranger. Played the back nine in 2hrs, 40 min.
Enjoyment
Enjoyed the round. There was slow play as I usually shoot towards a 4 hr round. I thought the course was changeling and definitely not a flat course. It made me consider a little more than usual which club to use. Lots of fun, go play and enjoy.
La Canada course
Great warm-up area& great views. No marshalls so pace was a little slow.
Very picturesque layout
Great views on almost every hole and the layout is top notch. We played on a cool overcast day so the usual crowded conditions for a January day weren't there and the pace of play was great.
CMcC
Never disappoints. Pace was smooth as the weather was iffy, but it turned out partly sunny and warm enough for short sleeves. The course layout is especially fun to play with numerous elevated greens for all levels. The greens were also in great condition, but not a break to be had! We'll do it again soon!
Nice layout
The course is in excellent condition staff super friendly the pace of play great play this course if you get a chance well worth it
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you had a great experience with us. We look forward to seeing you back soon.
Who Knew?!
Didn't Know What to Expect... Come To Find It Was So Nice, Staff Was Very Friendly & The Carts Actually Included a Cooler, and Ball Washing Kit. The Beverage Cart Girl Was Also There Just When You Needed Her. A++ - We Immediately Booked Another Round for The Next Day.
Thank you for taking the time to review our course. I'm glad that you had a great day playing. We look forward to your next visit.

It's ready for over seeding and maintenance.
The fairways were in good shape but the approach areas at the the greens and the greens themselves were in pretty rough shape.
Troon Management should be ashamed
I don’t think Troon management would let this happen at the Dunes. I would not recommend this course. Just glad I did not pay full fees. The greens and areas of the course where terrible. They said it was because of a water/irrigation issue in June. I don’t understand why the greens and other area of the course are still so beat up. I am a resident of Oro Valley and i would never recommend the course. there are too many others that are better maintained to play. Funny that the only holes that are maintained can be seen from the road.
I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience while playing golf with us. I would like to speak with you about that experience. Please feel free to reach me at elcongolf36@gmail.com

Course under repair
This course is trying to come back. It's not bad at this time. Now they are shutting it down for over seeding. When it comes back it should be really nice. I looked at the Conquistador side which they put bent grass, I think, but it looked really good. Most of the time, for me they charge to much. The starter was extremely friendly and helpful. I had a great time. It was fun.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I would like the opportunity to talk with you regarding your experience. Please contact me directly at elcon36@gmail.com.
