El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

Typical of course condition Photo submitted by DARoyer on 03/29/2013
Fast play, but tough course upkeep
The green fees were good- Summertime (hot).
The fairways and greens were not kept up (dry, dirt, different types of grass). This might be due to it being summertime.
Worse course conditions ever!
Used to play here a lot but haven't in about 8 months. Paid $18 and was not worth it. I would not play here again if they paid me to. The course conditions are the absolute worst I have ever played in my life! Since Oro Valley has purchased the course it has been on a steady spiral downward.
Disappointed! Expected better!
Apparently they've had some issues with the ability to water the course during extreme 100+ degree weather. Which has left the course in less than optimal shape than how I've seen it before. Lots of areas of brown dead fairways as well as on the greens. Not what I'd expected from a course that has usually always been well maintained in the past! I'm hoping they'll turn it around quickly!
Wait until the winter grass comes in
I am a fan of these courses, but unfortunately, the conditions will keep me away until the winter grass comes in. The bermuda on the fairways is not coming in, and some greens are borderline unplayable. I was told that there is a new head greens keeper, and know that Troon will turn it around, but it won't happen this summer. Looking forward to positive changes.
Staff was very friendly as always.
Disappointed
Have played the Canada course many times. The fairways are being cut very short and are burned out in many spots. Greens putt OK but many burned areas on most greens. Fairways are in need of aeration. Greens appear that work is being done to improve them. Summer rates help make this a decent value.
Course is fun to play
The course is well maintained and presents some enjoyable experiences. Staff do a great job!
Enjoyed experience
Had a great time and will definitely play again. Only downside was the price of beverages.
Course is not in very good condition and overpriced
Played the Canada course as one of the courses that we played on our golf trip from Iowa. The condition of the course was not very good, especially in the rough. It was a warm day we played on and there was not much water available on the course and there was no cart girl on the back 9. Bartender/waitress was very friendly and got us rehydrated after the round. Course was not nearly as good as most of the others we played and priced about the same. Recommend playing Vistoso for the same price and it's a much better course.
Excellent if you catch a deal
Canada course is more challenging than it looks. Great condition and great fun. Rack rates overpriced but you can often catch a special.
Pack a lunch
I played this course after reading the reviews on golf advisor and it was a letdown to say the least. The course was in decent condition, pace of play was good, but I was disappointed in the little things that make a round of golf enjoyable. On this particular course you don't make "the turn" at the clubhouse as you play 18 holes out and back. And there's no food or snacks available on the course other than what the cart girl stocks- candy bars and limited beers and soft drinks. So pack some snacks and drinks but don't let them catch you as off site food isn't allowed.
The proshop staff is friendly and eager to help and the starters and marshalls are good with course recommendations.
The range and practice areas are small so get there early as spots are limited.
The course is decent although the fairways are narrow so if you play a fade you should bring an extra dozen balls.
Overall, I'd rank my experience as a 5 out of 10 and I'd look for another place to play the next time I'm in town.
Great, but slow greens
Excellent everywhere but the greens were a bit slow. Needed a trim and roll.
Top notch experience
Nice time, great course, good value, friendly staff
Love it!
Awesome golf course. The best greens I've seen in years. Staff was super friendly. I will be back within the next 2 weeks. Thanks for the great experience.
I Always enjoy playing this course
The staff is always very courteous. After a short frost delay we got started. The course has always been in very nice shape. Aim for the 150 markers and you can't go wrong. Fairways are very green and usually generous.Pace of play was excellent, even with the delay. The practice area is well cared for. Actually for $10 I was told by the staff you can come and practice all day! One of my favorite courses to play in Tucson.
beautiful views
Great environment with various elevation changes.
Many bunkers and elevated greens make this course challenging.
Jammed between homes and city
Played the canada course. Most holes stucked between homes and streets and in poor conditions. Many tight and short doglegs where it is difficult to see where to hit and where we can't hit driver (from the back tees),.
3.4375 stars
a few nice holes. better than average sand traps. MOST of the people out on the course WERE NOT golfers. adults and children out riding bikes, walking, walking dogs and just sitting around. older man and his wife sitting on the tee box we wanted to use (they didn't move out of our way). NO ONE had any courtesy! close the course and make it a park/series of trails. or educate the locals to get out of the golfers way! last time I played golf at the dog park people weren't too happy with me! these people should be behind bars!
sad
3rd time playing here. Made us warm up(range) off of mats.....wtf?! This using winter in Indiana. Grass, baby, its right the rest us hit off of it. Layout has potential BUT waaaayyyyy too much uphill/downhill b.a. to make it enjoyable. Greens still very fuzzy. Better than before, but still sub par for a former HILTON course. Beverage cart girl informed us that she was quittig for the day....it was noon....byob. Too many other courses in better shape. Play elsewhere.
El conquistador course
Very nice facility, well maintained, friendly people just a great overall experience ! Unlike my game !
