Ventana Canyon - Mountain Course
About
The Mountain Course at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon, one of two Tom Fazio designs at this Tucson resort, is a classic desert-style target golf course has quick, undulating greens, elevated tee shots and a number of memorable holes. With four sets of tees, this par-72 course can be stretched to nearly 6,900 yards. The signature hole, the short par-3 third, is one of the most photographed holes in the Southwest and has been known to give up a few aces from balls that ricochet off the boulders that surround the green.

Try it you'll like it
Loved the course. Every hole was scenic w very green well kept fairways. We played in 4 1/2 hours and felt like we had the course to ourselves. Practice area is 1 mile from checkin and return signage is poor. Getting to pro shop is also not well marked from parking lot.
Slow----but good
The staff was nice and the course was in good shape. The pace of play was unacceptable and the Marshall's and pro shop did nothing to speed up play. Disappointing.
Good course
The course was fairly difficult, and the greens where really quick.. Had a great time although I lost a few balls in the bushes.. You really get rewarded hitting good shots and pay the price losing balls when you miss.
Most Enjoyable
My grandson and I played as a twosome from the gold tees and had a great but challenging time. The course was in great condition, the staff all helpful and friendly. The only negative was the confusion as to where to drop off the clubs. There was no signs or staff around to tell you so we walked out bags to the pro shop and someone came and picked them up.
Awesome scenery, awesome course
We played the Mountain course. The members like it better than the Canyon course. After a little difficulty trying to find where to drop the bags upon arrival, we got under way relatively smoothly. Small pro shop for guests. Members had a separate pro shop at the first tee (guest pro shop near resort hotel). Guests are treated differently than the members, as expected...not in a bad way though. Just you can tell that you are a little less welcome than the members.
We did have the pleasure of playing with 2 members. They were fantastic ! Let us know a lot about the course. We greatly appreciated them - they would tell us when to go to the back tees for a great picture chance. The 3rd hole is a little 100 yard nail-biter. Go to the back tees of # 3 and #4, WITH YOUR CAMERA.
Make no mistake - the course and scenery were the best in Tucson. We liked it better than Dove Mountain !
Bring your A game....
Played the Canyon course. Local knowledge would have helped - a lot! Beautiful setting, course in good condition, but I just played horribly. Practice facility is very good as was the condition of the greens. The greens, however, were very fast.
excellent as usual
The course was in excellent condition, even during winter time.
Sublime, desert Fazio course in Tucson
The Mountain Course was the highlight of a Tucson golf binge a few years back that included about 10 courses over six days. While it's a true desert course, there is quite a bit of green grass visible off the tee, which is refreshing. The greens are really interesting and in typical Fazio fashion, every hole is a postcard. I suppose I have to mention the famous 3rd, whose tiny green is shellacked with ball marks, but the design ingenuity is quite remarkable. Homes are set back well off playing corridors and often tucked within desert vegetation, so it doesn't feel like you're in a big resort and residential community whatsoever. All-in-all, I can't think of a better way to enjoy desert golf.
Very well conditioned course.
Both the Canyon and Mountain courses were in excellent condition. Greens seemed a bit grainy, but lines were true. Overall a good value for the green fees paid.
Yo Mama
Great course, views awesome, golf very playable but will get you in trouble with errant shot.
This course has slipped.
I have played this course many times in the past. It has slipped in quality in my opinion. The staff is less friendly. There is NO GPS and NO course book for guidance. AND, the bar (19th hole) was closed on a Saturday afternoon!?! For the same money, there are much better courses around Tucson to play. It's a bummer, I liked this course. This course will be a backup option in the future for my friends and I, rather than a course we always play.
A great golfing experience.
The views from this coourse are stunning and the course is in excellent condition. Staff was very friendly and efficient.
Awesome condition and greens second to none.
The course is in spectacular condition and the greens were speedy and true. They had 3 inch rough off the fairways that added another dimension to the game. Get in there before they raise the prices. Pace of play was a little slow as nearly everyone was taking pictures because it was so nice!
Great course in great shape
Never disappoints. Great course in great condition right now
wonderful condition
we are from colorado and come to arizona once a year;
always come to play at Ventana Canyon Mountain Course. It is wonderful. Cant recommend it highly enough. Carolyn and Joe Borus Denver
Beautiful course
Course was in immaculate condition. Greens were difficult to read but were in great shape.
Very up market
This is top resort golf, plush delightful .
This as expected was a little more cash but you get the value.
Lots of helpers , great range, beautiful club house with lots of shade for a desert.
#3 is a Fazio gem, Spectacular construction . Its a real knee knocker. We had a great day of Fun , a definite returner .
it was a really nice course and we have had a good time playing it
I love playing this course and i will definately go back.
Very nice layout
Although it was that time of year (overseeding), and that it took us 4h¾ to play because of cart path only, we really enjoyed the course as it was very challenging. The greens were in great shape and fast. They dazzled us all day as we couldn't figure out the breaks and speed because of the mountain....
could be better1
unfortunately we were stuck in a shotgun start, which we were not told about when we booked. The round started at 1:20 not 1:00 therefore with the crowded course and late start we could not finish 18 holes. not good value!!
