Good Conditions at a Great Price
They have new owners and the course is in much better condition than even six months ago. The new owners seem to be putting condition first over profits. This course is not hard but is certainly not easy. There is a mix of challenging holes. The course has lots of water in play. The practice green was small and was not in very good condition, likely due to high play. I was worried the course greens would be bad, but they were smooth and rolling great. I highly recommend this course for condition and pricing.
Goat Pasture
Horrible conditions. Free beer doesn't make up for it.
I play regularly there
I play at Serenoa regularly. It is usually in good shape, and can be challenging from whites and esp. blues. It is a fun course. There's water in play on most holes. The staff is friendly, the pace of play is good, and they have some great golf+food combos. Clubhouse and practice facilities are average.
There are some legitimate, but relatively minor criticisms: there are often a few mushy spots even if there's been no rain--they over-water, or lack proper drainage in places. The sand traps could use more sand. The greens have always been fine when I played, though I've heard some negative comments around punching and over-seeding times. It's just good sense at any course to ask about playing conditions when you book a tee time.
I'm very satisfied with this course, and will continue to play regularly.
Not worth playing.
The greens are in terrible condition, bumpy and very slow. I won't play here again.
Stay Away At All Costs!!
Course conditions were abysmal. Worse I have seen in Sarasota in years. Greens are 90% dead. Traps have no sand. The weeds around the traps were 2-3 feet high. Weeds all over the fairways. They overbook all the time and don't stagger tee times, so plan on a 5+ hour round, even in off season.
The bathroom facilities were disgusting. I've seen cleaner bathrooms in New York City subways. No beverage cart and only one cooler of water on the course, with warm water.
I paid $21 today but that was about $15 too much. Absolutely, positively the worse public golf course in Sarasota by a long shot.
Super in Sarasota
This is a great course for the common golfer. Easy to get tee times most of the year. I have ALWAYS found the staff to be accomodating and friendly. Because the lunch or breakfast is built into the green fees the value is tremendous. Water on every hole but is very playable even for the high handicapper. Give Serenoa a try and I think you will like it.
Course in Poor Condition
Greens in terrible condition. Like putting on bad asphalt. Bumpy with lots of bare spots. Tees just as bad with fairways marginally better. Rough nothing but hard dirt in many places. Pace of play not bad on front nine but back nine a different story since Starter was squeezing groups in on #10 between groups coming off #9. By 11th hole backed up two groups. Took almost 3 hours to play back nine. Staff not friendly. Much better places to play for money paid.
I have played this course many times over the past two years. I think the course is better than this review indicates.
