Lago Vista Golf Course
About
The Lago Vista Course is Lago Vista resort’s original track, designed by Leon Howard in the late 1960s and renovated by Dave Bennett in 1992. The golf course has four water holes, more than 40 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet. Lago Vista is known for its demanding par 3s, which all go right at 200 yards. No. 10 is fun because it can be reached in two: a 495-yard par 5 with a creek that looms right.
Getting to Lago Vista: From Austin, take Hwy. 183 north to FM 1431, then turn west 11 miles. When you come to Lohmas Ford Rd. turn left and drive 3 miles, then turn right on Boggy Ford R. Veer to the right and follow the signs to the golf course.

Overbooked and slow
I golfed at Lago Vista on a very nice Sunday afternoon. The course was super busy and backed up. As busy as it was, you would think they would have a Starter. They didn't and it was pretty much free-for-all. People go from the clubhouse or range anytime they can. They let fivesomes play which makes it even worse. Looks like they book a tee-time every 7-8 minutes. A single jumped holes and added to the congestion as there were no gaps. The Marshal knew about it but didn't do anything to stop it.
The course is in decent shape but pretty muddy in places as we've a lot of recent rain, there seems to be some pretty significant drainage issues.
Greens
Greens were rolling real nice this weekend! They just over seeded, and the course was VERY wet.
Beautiful scenery, but you'll wait.......
I like playing at Lago Vista. It's a good course with beautiful views of the Hill Country. The only downside is the recent price increase, and virtual certainty you'll have to wait. This past Sunday was slow on over half the holes. I'll be back though - still one of the best values around.
Good value
Kind, attentive staff. Back nine was better than the font. The course, with small improvements, could be excellent. The wildlife meandering on the course was a plus. The greens were consistent and well maintained.
Enjoyable experience and would recommend it to friends.
Good course with some minor issues
I really like Lagos Vista golf course with its challenging layout (though not brutal) and scenic holes. I would recommend anyone who wants to play a challenging course close to Austin, Lagos is a great option. The greens were a little bit rough as far as condition but the rest of the course was very good.
This course has very narrow fairways with residences on both sides of most fairways.
Great course. Arrived 15 minutes late as I drove up from San Antonio. Staff had no problems with getting us out asap. Great views of rolling countryside and Colorado River. Several elevated tee areas. Hole #9 was awesome. Blind tee shot towards the fairway, second shot to the green is from an elevated fairway down, down, down to the green. Paid $38 for my round. Well worth it.
With all the deer on the course it was like playing in a nature preserve
Great fall day with wildlife everywhere. Course was in very good shape and the views were awesome
Course conditions are great - cost is great
The course has consistently been in great shape and the green fees are more than reasonable
This is my home course
I am a beginner and this was the second course I played and now call it my home course (even though I hit a deer and got bit by a dog on my first time playing it, haha) it is fun to play and everyone is nice there and no one rushes you.
Fairways too long and very slow
Wow. The course is just beautiful and green and nestled out in the hills near Lake Travis. I dismissed many of the reviews on this site about the long fairway grass because I thought surely they have this under control by now, but the fairway grass was about as long as the grass in my front yard. We usually play about 3.5 hours for 18 holes, but this took us 4.25 hours as there was almost no ball roll on the fairway and you could barely barely tell the fairway from the rough. Greens were well kept. It was the most frustrating course I have ever played. Won't be going back soon. Maybe this is why the course was not slamming on a 75 degree beautiful sunny Sunday.
This course is in excellent shape
The greens are in great shape and the course well maintained. The staff are very friendly and courteous. I really enjoy the view from the tee-off boxes and the two "blind holes" are my favorite holes on the course. When I am in Lago Vista I try to make it a point to play the course. For the money, you can't beat it.
The course is green and lush.
The recent rains have benefitted this course. The fairways are the place to be. Anything off the fairway is thick! Greens were in great shape but a little on the slow side (nothing that a mower couldn't solve:)). Overall, a pleasant day on the course shared with the local residents (deer).
Course was in very good shape. Greens were a bit long, but recent rains may have been the cause. No cart girl the whole round??
Third time to play. Course is in good shape, recent rain has greened things up but made getting the greens mowed delayed. Have yet to see the cart girl on the course.
Need to MOW
there was no discernible difference between fairway and rough. There is no reward for being accurate off the tee. All the grass on the course was over an inch long. It is also thick so it grabs your club on every shot. Greens were slow and bumpy. It is what it is. $27 at 11am on a weekend is worth it, but don't expect much.
Very nice course for your money.
Great course for your money. Not very long but some challenging holes.
They need to figure out how to use a lawn mower.
This course was inexpensive ($35)but after playing a few holes I thought even that was too much. Even if you hit the fairway, it felt like you were constantly playing out of the rough because the fairway grass was so long. That became increasingly frustrating as the round progressed. The scenery and wildlife around the course was pretty cool, and the greens were in pretty good shape. The staff was friendly. The experience would have been great if the fairways were cut.
Course was short but required accuracy off the tee; I like that.. F
I had a great time, great price, and course was in great shape considering how much water we get..
nice views
great views. fairway grass is too long and the greens were a bit slow. Grill was good and enjoyed the round.
Good for beginners for a discount
Driving range - small, hitting surface poor. Practice green - ok, speed same as greens on course which is important. Short course - from the tips only 1 par 4 was 400 yds, most were 330-350. Tee boxes are long grass, fairways are long grass, greens are slower than average but not bumpy. Hole layouts are nice though. Wasn't crowded. Would recommend to beginners, or people living close if they can find it for cheap. We played for $13 w/cart, but I wouldn't drive an hour even if it was free.
The course plays well and the greens are in good shape
The course is in good shape, the staff worked well and were cordial.
