Ironwood Golf Course
About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Ironwood GC
Nice course. Not too crowded today so afternoon hotdeal was great. Played in around three hours with some waiting on back nine. Layout pretty straight forward with accurate tee markers and fairway yardages. They use the flag on the pin method for green pin position, OK since you can visually see where the pins are on pretty much all the greens. Tees good, fairways require a litle of a roll for a good lie, bunkers looked good and there are quite a few on each hole but I wasn't in one all day. Greens pretty nice, fully grassed but SLOW, either putt was left just short or just didn't take a break. Greens all have some slopes that really would make putting difficult if the greens were cut shorter. From the fairways greens present a nice appearance since they are are slightly elevated with shaved fringes! Nice course, everyone I met was very nice. Clubhouse small but well put together, would of liked to have a couple of after round drinks but I had a little drive in front of me. Recommend.
Not worth the money
This course is way overrated. The fairways were rock hard and chewed up in some places, and muddy in others. We played on a Sunday and it hadn't rained since Tuesday. I like the layout of the course, but I will never play this course again. The starter was extremely rude. My friend and I had a tee time, we hit some balls and were late getting to the tee box. We were then told that my group had already left. We were not told that they paired us with a single. The starter then told us it would be 30 more minutes because there was a foursome and three fivesomes that needed to go. There was several people upset because we were waiting and we had a golf cart. The course was out of carts and had to keep waiting for people to finish before anyone could get carts. This was a horrible experiance.
Great value
The course was in fair condition at best, as it had heavy rains recently, so it was cart path only. Pace of play was excellent, the greens very receptive and with a great deal thru golfnow, made a good day of golf all around
Lots of play
really like the new layout. Wish the greens would be rolled and cut shorter. Had a lot of fun playing with my family which included 2 junior players and the staff encouraged them that they are welcome anytime.
Challenging layout with great wildlife
Fun and challenging course but does not drain well. Sand traps very wet. Greens firm but receptive. Staff friendly and helpful. Check golfnow for discounts or call course for specials
It is a natural wild life preserve
Great wild life, Turkeys, Deer and other birds
slow but challenging greens
fast and excellent green condition
On a beautiful day and not cart path only this course is fun one to play on.
Not bad
the course was ok fairways need some help should not have bare spots during fall season. Greens were descent and challenging. Would play here again and would recommend the course to others if you can get they green fees around 25.00 I would not play here for more than that.
Enjoyed
Very well maintained, green placement presented a challenge but not real hard. A lot of wildlife viewed while playing. I really enjoyed myself playing here.
Good expereince
Really enjoyed this course today the weather was great.
Good shape for this time of year
Ironwood is in good shape right now. The greens are super firm but very workable. It's been fairly dry the last couple of weeks and there were some damp places along the edge of the fairway, but nothing that was detrimental to my round.
Round really slowed down around the 5th hole due to larger slow groups, but it was a Sunday and I expected slower play. Rangers could be a little more active with pacing.
Ironwood course
Ironwood is in good shape and is able to have a starter as well as course rangers and a drink cart. The course was in good shape with the greens a little slow and fairways in decent shape.
Better than Expected
Nice course with friendly staff. Good for all levels.
Tight fairways
This was my second round at this course which was just as enjoyable. If it were not for the slow pase it would of been a perfect day!
Long par fives, very good.
I would recommend this course to anyone. It's good very all levels, for all skills.
Fun Golf Course
I have played this course over the years and seen it when it was in bad shape. This golf course is in better shape now than ever. The staff is very friendly as well.
Solid local spot, rough summer conditions
Ironwood is a great deal for students especially with the Golf Now Hotdeals happening. The summer always brings with it lots of rain at certain points and lots of heat and humidity at others. The conditions were a little rough around the edges and the fairways were pretty dry. The greens are pretty tricky and with so much heat, they were clearly a little beat up. Overall, Ironwood isn't and probably will never be in the condition of Mark Bostick (UF) course considering they just put in new greens and bunkers but for roughly half the price it's a good deal. Great service, friendly people, and cheaper range balls than at the UF course.
OK course in town with very little else to offer
Of the TWO regulation public courses in the county (not counting the par 60 place) Ironwood is by far the better of the two options. While it's not spectacular, the course is in pretty decent shape, and there are good practice areas as well. There are much better options if I want to drive another 20 minutes (for the same cost or even less) south of here, but I keep coming here fairly regularly, so that must say something good about the place
Gainesville's Best Public Course
Really good course. In good condition and they have a friendly staff. Best place in Gainesville to play for the general public and one of the best overall as well.
Nice Course, a bit ovepriced
I was told Ironwood was a nice, scenic course. It did not disappoint. The course was is solid conditions, especially amidst all of the rain that the area has had over the last few weeks.
I am disappointed in the normal cost of round. While I purchased my round on GolfNow for $25 at a 33% off rate, that is a bit high for a public course it seems.
I would say that it was worth the price, but I probably wont play there again for more than that ($25).
