Golfer Reviews
Much improved
It’s been about year since I’ve been to TC and the last time the conditions weren’t great. However there has been a solid effort to get it back in shape and I was very happy to see it looking good again. This is a great local track with some tight tee shots/fairways and a few funky dog legs, but overall a fun layout. Place of play was a bit of an issue as there wasn’t a starter at the first tee and I got stuck behind two foursome on the front. Playing as a single you would expect groups to let you play thru when they aren’t being held up themselves. Unfortunately this didn’t happen, so I got to watch a whole lot of “army golf” for half the round…lol
Turkey Creek
The course is coming along and is in better shape because of all the rain we have had. New cart paths are nice. Patches of hard pan but didn't impact play. Greens were a little shaggy but had no bare spots that I could remember.
Gainesville has a definite lack of course so you only have two options as a public golf course player. Course was packed even for a weekday.
Restaurant was nice.
Decent course
Happy that the community has kept up this course. Consistently making improvements. Many narrow fairways so hit your drives straight. Greens are mostly good.
Improvements in Progress
I’m from out of town. Greens were good. Fairways are being worked on. About 1/3 of tee boxes need to be sodded. Mostly dirt, very little grass. Overall much improved from the last time I played.
Save your money
Unless you are playing for free, avoid this course. The entire front nine should be ground under repair. The back is slightly better. Great layout, but horrific conditions tee to green. Pro shop staff is friendly, but they don’t inform you of the terrible conditions that await. Glad to see this course reopened, but wait at least a year to play here.
The layout is pretty nice. They need to really work on the grass conditions - - the tee boxes are chewed up, the fairways are improving but still have a lot of weedy spots, and the greens were not that tight so they were slow.
Good greens
Course is making improvements with cart paths and greens are in good shape. Fairways not up to par due to extended drought in central Florida. Many narrow, tree lined fairways so take extra balls.
Slow play
I would recommend that a group of six golfers shouldn't be allowed
Not worth the money.
A majority of the fairways are in terrible shape and have you hitting off of hard dirty right in the middle of the fairway.
Our Favorite Course in the Area
We enjoyed our play at Turkey Creek. The course is challenging but forgiving. The staff is friendly. We will be back next winter!
