Ironwood Golf Course
About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Great Character with nice greens typical
My wife and I play this course 2 times weekly. the greens generally are good shape. Cool feature is the turkey and deer presence in the afternoon....
Good

Needs some maintenance
The greens were quite slow and the fairways were pretty barren. For a quick game while passing through. The area it was okay but not one I would go out of the way to repeat.
An enjoyable golf course
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. Based upon reviews in Golfnow from previous players, I thought this course might be disappointing. Since I was in Gainesville visiting my son in pharmacy school and didn't want to drive very far for a better rated/reviewed course, I decided to take a chance and come out to try this course. I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions and the greens were in terrific shape. The course was moderately challenging with key lay-ups to in order to par. The scenery was very nice as well with wild deer and turkeys running wild. The ranger and staff were very pleasant and accommodating. I will definitely come back on subsequent visits.
Execellent Public Course
The course is in great shape and the greens are in excellent condition.
An average course but one of the better ones in Gainesville
This course is average in every way. It's an ok layout, in ok condition. Pricing is of average value. But it is one of the better courses available to public golfers in Gainesville.
good condition
good green and bad fairway. need to work on the fairway. considering fee, relatively good golf course.
Great conditioned Municipal course
Very nice municipal course, In my top ten of best conditioned municipal courses. Very well routed and easy walkable course. Fairways and greens were in superb conditioned. Cart lady and Marshal was always around to ensure pace of play. Very enjoyable 3 hrs with a foursome. Great value course to play.
OK course to play
We made a reservation through the Golfnow website the day before. We got there on-time and checked in. Process was smooth and staffs were friendly. However, it got disorganized once we got to the course. Our tee time was delayed about 20 minutes due to walk in customers, which they were allow to jump in the course anytime without any start time. Anyhow, overall course was ok condition after pass by rain.
Nice layout.
This course has no throwaway holes (the par 3 tenth is challenging if the pin is in the back). It had rained for 3 days when we played, and there was plenty of casual water, but we still had fun!
Great Course for the money
For the price this was a great course and I hope to play it again.
One of Gainsville best public courses
The course needed to be cut but because of all the rain in
Gainsville lately they were unable to do it. Loved the course
it has a great layout and is friendly to all golfers of any level.
I will be back to try to beat the course but with my handicap
this will be hard for me to do. (10 -15) But it is great fun to try
to hit that one great shot after shot after shot. What a fun
game GOLF is!
Course was in good shape
We had a lot of rain, so it was cart path only. The greens were in great shape. The staff was great. Will go back soon.
Well maintained
Very enjoyable play, is figuring. Had a great time with my son.
Decent, but prefer courses in Ocala
My problem with this course is it does not drain well. Greens are in great shape, but roll inconsistently. Some are fast, some are super slow. Fairways are slowing returning to pre-renovation condition due to poor drainage and upkeep. Some of the fairways are so soft that a perfect ball strike is required to even have a chance at the green. It was almost like hitting a ball under water. Pace of play was slow for the second nine because we caught up to slower players. I probably wont golf here again. Some of the Ocala courses are same price, but are much nicer and more scenic.
Great value!!
Played on Sunday and was pleased with pace of play & condition of course. Course is fun to play and scoring well can be done with a good short game. Traps are maintained and rough is why you would expect.
Ironwood better than ever
$1.3 million dollars was spent on the course and it is noticeable throughout the track. The greens are in terrific condition and the fairways are in mostly good condition. Very impressed with the transformation of the course.
Needs work.
Nice layout. Too bad the greens were so slow. They mowed the greens with 3 reel mower that only had the two outside reels working and it looked like some artwork by Andy Worhal..And way too slow. Fairways were quite bumpy.
Not a great value for $31.
