Ironwood Golf Course
About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Changed my Mind
I've played this course before this year and I wasn't happy with the conditions. I have to say that this year I'm impressed with the course maintenance and how great the fairways and the tee boxes are. Most of the greens are in really good shape too. Some are noy but they are getting better. I will be playing here more in the future. Keep up the good work!
Very decent getting to nice
This course was great for scenery, slight challenges, and open tee shots . Greens are getting rebuilt and refurbished coming along but needs a few more months to be perfect .
Enjoyed the rounds
Played the course two days in row. Once with a buddy and once with my grandson. I like the course layout. Fairways are in decent shape. Greens are improving. They were not as bad as some reviews made them out to be. They have recovered a lot since last fall.
The clubhouse had nothing to eat or drink.
I definitely will not play there again. The greens were in the worst shape I’ve ever played on. Not good.
Sandy Slow Greens and Splotchy Fariways
I golfed this course a month ago, and came back again today with 3 other friends from Jacksonville, thinking the conditions might get better with a month of maintenance--it wasn't better. It's difficult to describe how bad the greens are, which were little more than sandy patches of dirt with intermingled grass sprouts that provided no consistent roll (sometimes fast, sometimes slow). The lack of maintenance extends further to the driving range, where the mats are seemingly 20 years old and there no way to tee up a ball for driving. There was no food in the clubhouse. There was no cart girl on the course for refreshments. And we had several 'single' players jump in front of us on the back nine after the turn and slow the course down. One of the golfers was blatantly playing two balls, and we were waiting for him to track down his balls. We brought the issue up with the ranger, who apparently knew the offender and justified "oh, he's just playing a two-some buy himself". The the ranger not only didn't enforce the pace of play, but actively endorsed the two-ball play as 'okay by him'. All in our foursome concurred that we will never make the hour-long drive from Jacksonville to play here.
We only were given three hours for 18 hole from tee off until an afternoon tournament started after playing behind a five some of kids with rentals clubs. Didn’t make it and had to quit early.
Good course for the money
Pleasantly surprised by the course. Visiting for Gator baseball game.
Greens are bad
They need to fix their greens. Some are shaggy, some are cut better, most have bare spots and duck grass.
