About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Golfer Reviews
Beautiful natural Florida surroundings
This course is quite pretty, surrounded by (increasingly rare) natural Florida vegetation and fauna (a couple of deer emerged from the woods as I was playing). The fairways were alternately fantastic and not so fantastic, and the greens the same...some nice and some with significant damage. But the layout is nice and it is an easy walk. I really enjoyed being out here--and there were very few other golfers so I finished my walk in about 3 hours.
Golf trip with a friend
On a week long golf trip bouncing from place to place. This was definitely our favorite. Course is laid out nicely with a huge variety. Wide to narrow fairways, cart girl on the weekends. Super friendly staff and a simple but cool pro shop and bar. Will definitely be making a trip back to come play. FYI back nine greens are being sodded in a few areas. They’re not perfect by any means BUT neither is our golf game
Golf in Gainesville FL
Course was fun to play fairways were excellent. The greens were a little need of work. The staff was excellent did everything to make us feel welcome.
Good Value for the Price
Ironwood is a municipal course. Fairways are in great condition. Some of the greens need work. Good golf value forr the price.
Ironwoodhas done many improvements lately
We only have two public courses remaining in Gainesville and this one is one of the best. They have recently changed out the driving range mats, Added a new golf carts, and done repairs on the greens and the staff is friendly. Also prices are more reasonable at this course than the other public course.
Decent condition
Course has improved recently especially front nine. Back nine some greens need major work. Fairways were in good condition. Rained much of my round. Difficult to judge pace of play as I was a single. Stuck behind 2 4-zones so I skipped 2 holes on the front
Pleasantly surprised
Course is in good condition tee to green. There are some rough spots in the fairways and greens, but course is definitely improving. Marshals came around to help pace of play. No cart girl and water machine was broken.
Changed my Mind
I've played this course before this year and I wasn't happy with the conditions. I have to say that this year I'm impressed with the course maintenance and how great the fairways and the tee boxes are. Most of the greens are in really good shape too. Some are noy but they are getting better. I will be playing here more in the future. Keep up the good work!
Very decent getting to nice
This course was great for scenery, slight challenges, and open tee shots . Greens are getting rebuilt and refurbished coming along but needs a few more months to be perfect .
Enjoyed the rounds
Played the course two days in row. Once with a buddy and once with my grandson. I like the course layout. Fairways are in decent shape. Greens are improving. They were not as bad as some reviews made them out to be. They have recovered a lot since last fall.
