StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

Awesome target golf in the hills of Prescott Valley
Beautiful well-maintained golf course with many picturesque holes and elevation changes, cut out of the hills of Prescott Valley. There are a few challenging target tee shots where you only use an iron or hybrid. Some tee shots offer a risk/reward by choosing driver.
The par 3s are gorgeous. The par 5s are difficult but score-able. #18 is one of the most unique holes you'll ever play. The 2nd shot doglegs left down a hill, while the 3rd shot doglegs right halfway back up a hill. Both shots only require short irons. But if you hit a really good drive, you might think about hitting a 200-250 yard shot (all carry) to try to reach it in 2. Truly a remarkable hole.
It REALLY helps to play with a local the first time you play here. The course should probably provide a tip sheet for newbies. For instance, the 2nd shot on #18 can be blind if your drive doesn't make it to the corner. It would take many rounds of experience to master aiming that blind 2nd shot. Also, the tee shot on #5 is only a mid-iron. Luckily I played with some locals who advised me on not only those holes but also a few others.
BEWARE: This is truly a golf course where you do NOT want to leave yourself on the high side of the hole. Some chips and putts are impossible to get close. You can easily leave a chip too short and have the ball come back to you, or hit a putt a bit too hard and find yourself off the green.

This course is challenging
The course and the people that worked there was awesome. I would not recommend it for a beginner golfer though. It was challenging but not overly difficult. I definitely loved the layout.
Not a Marshall in Sight!!
I would heartily recommend StoneRidge to a friend travelling through Prescott as we were this past Tuesday on our way to Sedona. It is probably the best designed and most reasonably priced public access course in the entire Prescott Valley. But as all of us know, the best golf course can be a horrifying place to visit if there is an abject ignorance of the pace of play. We were three hours on the front nine and had to walk off for fear of missing our anniversary dinner. We saw four staff members running the entire operation. The course is difficult, with many forced carries and tight driving areas; it has lots of "Tee it forward" warnings on the carts etc., but with no marshall to enforce those, I imagine there are a lot of long days on that course! Nice lay-out and good conditions for October.
Pace of play was terrible.
Way too slow pace of play. We never saw a Marshall for assistance. There were six groups backed up on no. 17.
The course is fun but tough which is why I like it.
The staff is great, very friendly and accommodating. The course was in great shape and I always highly recommend it to friends. I drove an hour one way to play there and it was well worth it like always. Can't wait to go back.
Lots of blind shots very hilly course, long drives from green to tee.
Course was in good condition. However there is a lot of blind shots and large elevation changes making judging distances difficult, especially since the carts DON'T have GPS. Double doglegs that make par 5s par 4s. Long hilly drives from green to tees on many holes. Too gimmicky for my liking. The par 3s were best part of the course, some very pretty ones.
This course was in great shape.
This is a wonderful course. Very well kept, the pace of play quick due to more spacing between tee times. The staff is very courteous and helpful.
Tough course, hilly and lots of target shots. Fun to play, but would be very difficult for a newer or high handicap golfer
Course in great shape except for some sand on a few of the greens. Bring lots of golf balls if you are a relatively new golfer or have difficulty getting off of a tee box.
Otherwise, a super day with great views and fun golf. Will be back again and again.
Food in grille is very good and the pro shop staff is truly super friendly.
Many different mountain elevations and tight fairways.
Should plan on playing course several times to help determine club selection and best locations for ball placement during your round.
Great course very senic
Stone Ridge golf course was challenging scenic and very well maintained. The course personnel were very kind and helpful. We had a pleasant experience in the lounge after we played. The prices in the grill are very reasonable.
beautiful views
I had an enjoyable round and was treated courteously.
Challenging for new golfers
Stoneridge was definitely a challenging course for me. As a new golfer, I am not very long, strong or straight. I worked hard on this course, but when I was finished I considered it a good accomplishment and will look forward to playing it again to see if I can improve my score and lose fewer golf balls.
Beatiful, challenging course.
This is a mountain, canyon type course. Target golf required on some holes. Very scenic.
No GPS
Great course. Would love to play here again. Some course knowledge would have helped. No GPS cost me a few strokes.
Great esert venue-not for walking but spectacular views of course & area. Buy the course book!
Loved the course but not for high handicappers. 5 tees to choose from & course changes w/each tee. Many elevation changes & canted fairways but not overdone. Tiered greens plenty of well-placed traps-sand not great as the course has had more rain than usual. A true desert course as washes define OB & lots of flora & fauna to see. Very good grille & food w/friendly service. Great value for a 15 handicap from tees one up from tips.
Challenging course that is a great value to play.
Lots of elevation changes throughout the course that require concentration on club selection and accuracy.
Very challenging. But had a blast.
Make sure you have at least 5 extra balls. No matter how good you are!
Can't wait to go back !
Stoneridge is a unique course design; the kind of golf course you don't get to play every day. It is challenging but fair. Good couse management and club selection will be important. Each hole is it's own entity as you will only see the hole you are playing. The elevation changes provide lots of fun shots. I loved this course.
Hint: For the bet strategy I suggest not pulling the driver out on every tee.
Have fun !
Tough course with some blind shots and sloping fairways. Great condition.
Lots of sloping fairways and elevation changes. Well bunkered with good sand. Must know where to hit some shots that are blind to avoid trouble. Directional flags are helpful.
