StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

bring balls
Forced carries off the tee on almost every hole tends to eat up balls. Green placement if difficult and pars would be a reward to brag on. A real challenge.
Great deal on a great course
The course is a great place to play. The greens were in rough condition, but it is that time of year. In the summer they are always in much better shape. The only issue was start times. They were letting people go out whenever they wanted. We ran into some slow play. Other than those two things, it was a really great deal. Stone ridge is on the side of a mountain, so the holes offer lots of elevation change. It is a rather unforgiving course. If you miss the fairway, you are pretty much in the desert.
Tuff Course
This is a very fun and challenging course. I would highly recommend it to anyone!!!
Great views
Very picturesque, elevation changes from start to finish.
Not for beginners
First time I played this course, I absolutely hated it and said I would never come back. Lost every ball in my bag. Went back, played it a second time. Same results. Played it again, then again and again. I love love love this course. You just have to learn where to hit the ball. Example: 2nd hole if you hit straight down the middle, chance are very good that your ball will roll to the right, over the cart path and out of bounds. So many holes are like this, that you need a expert that knows this course and can tell you where to aim. Once you have figured this out, the course is not that difficult. It is in no way a course for beginners.
Great views and good greens as usual.
Bring your driver. The greens are true and fast. The condition is always good and there are some great par threes and par fours with some risk and reward. A must play!
Play Smart
My wife and I needed a weekend getaway from CO. We didn't want the chaos of golf in major AZ cities, so after reading reviews, we chose StoneRidge. So glad we did. The employees, the course, and the views were awesome. The course was in great condition considering the time of year. It is as challenging as you choose to make it. Play conservative when unsure what's up ahead, when you can see the shot take it. I played one of my best rounds, but I can see how a person could loose a lot of balls if you're "just going for it". There is A LOT of terrain but it makes for some real beauty. We will play it again when we're in the area!
Aerating but no notice on GolfNow
I based my rating on past experiences. Drove 90 minutes to play but only 9 holes open, back 9 closed and aerating. Front 9 aerated the day before. No info about this on GolfNow. I realize the course should relay this info to you, so I blame them. Went over to Prescott CC and had a great day, so all was not lost. So if you're reading this, do yourself a favor and call beforehand to check on conditions at the course. The past rounds at StoneRidge were excellent.
Need to play once to know where to hit
Windy day on unfamiliar course. Several holes are total mysteries unless you play it couple times. Bunkers not in good shape and several areas where turf had been replaced or verticut that mad for difficult lies (should have been marked under repair). Came up from Phoenix to play, good temps but way too windy on course that requires precision.
Fun course.
Tucked into hills and ravines with a lot of elevation changes this is not a walking course, and I love to walk. Coming out of winter the greens were hard and fast but acceptable. Sand was hard and packed, more like hitting out of dirt. It was windy when we played and the canyons only serve to increase the wind speed. On a nice day it is a fun round but impossible to play well and enjoy with 20mph winds.
stupendous not to be missed course!
This is a course I had only played in my dreams. The fairways are intermingled with mountainous terrain. If you get to the Prescott Arizona area and want to play a course you will never forget, you need to play this one. The views from the tee boxes are really out of this world. Staff could not have been more accommodative.
Pro level course in prescott valley az
Top quality course and staff, if your going to play golf in the prescott area this is the spot. Beautiful course and surrounding property.
Great Course Slow Slow Slow Play
This is really quite a challenging course. I have played this course 8 times in the last six months. Pace of play is horrid. Averaging 5:15 minutes for 18 holes. If you can stand the slow pace it is a great course.
Good target golf course.
with a lot of elevation changes and target golf it was very nice to play these different conditions. The staff was very pleasant and helpful especially since we had not played the course before.
Winter golf
With this beautiful weather I got in 2 rounds of golf there last week and the greens are prepared for frost and snow.
Gut Check
I had a great time playing Stoneridge for the first time last week. The course is extremely challenging with a number of forced carries over the desert to reach the fairway, risk-reward shots on shorter par 4's and a general need to have played the course a couple of times to know where you can take a rip and where you need to play conservatively. Most of the staff was extremely friendly, most notably Ray, the starter, was very helpful in pairing me up with a group similar to my skill level. The guys in the pro-shop were too busy to bother asking for anything other than my form of payment, so I didn't really start the customer service experience off with a bang upon checking in. I played the black tees, which measure out just a little more than 7k yards. The course was well maintained outside of a handful of tee boxes that had just been top dressed and the sand still sitting on top of the grass, which as you can imagine, made it a little tough to get a good footing for your tee shots. My handicap generally hovers around a 5, but I ended up shooting an 83 on this day. I would expect a better score next time simply because I have some idea of where to hit he ball and where not to. For the money, this is a great local track, but come prepared to drop a few balls off with the Golf Gods prior to the end of your round...especially if you've never played the course before.
If it weren't for the snow!!
This course was stunning! and difficult. My only regret is that is snowed and was cold. Had to quit after nine. Play was a bit slow and backed up on the day i played, but aside from that this is a must play course that is worth the memory.
thanks
this course creates a lot risk & rewards
Fun course, the challenge makes for return play.
The terrain is extremely picturesque.
Forced carries on almost every hole
Disappointed that the course was not 'greened'...dormant fairways made for a lot of tight lie situations and what I would consider unfair conditions. Good shots were often not rewarded when the ball would roll into the rough or worse.
