Old Corkscrew Golf Club
About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

9th Green Photo submitted by jmcbride2013 on 04/21/2013
The greens are back!
The greens are back and rolling true—making birdie putts has never felt better! The course is in fantastic shape, and you can really see the attention to detail. On top of that, the staff couldn’t be more friendly and accommodating. From start to finish, they make you feel welcome and ensure you have an amazing experience. Highly recommend playing here!

Gone down hill!
I’ve played this course probably 20 times over the last decade and the conditions currently (greens) are poor for a $200 plus course. The greens were playable today but ran maybe at a 10 on the stimp meter and are no where close to the conditions prior to the sale of the course a couple of years ago. Supposedly they are going to shut the course down, redesign it and open up as a private club. Why would you want to redesign one of the few Jack Nicklaus courses in America? The course is a $125 to $150 course with the current greens. They need to redo the greens or sell the course. Also do away with the nonstop ads on the cart screen for the $35 lobster roll sandwich. I don’t mind paying up for a nice course but the conditions don’t warrant the price.
Great course very challenging
We reviewed this course before playing. This course had some issues with fungus on the greens months before our rounds. This was one of my favorite courses. I’ve played in Florida. The course was in great shape and greens were in good shape also. Lots of work and maintenance have been done for this course to be in the shape that it’s in. I would recommend this course to anyone that loves the game of golf. It’s beauty and challenging greens. Will make this one of your top courses to play. Put the course at the top of your list. Happy Golfing
Great, Fair, Challenging Course
Course is in great shape, well maintained. Very friendly staff from the moment you arrive. Well conditioned practice area. Beautiful layout that is not surrounded by tracks of homes. You really feel like the course was carved out of the Florida wilderness and miles away from the bustle of Bonita, Ft. Myers, and Naples.
Two non-golf related complaints:
Unfortunate this course has been bought by a private equity and will redevelop the course and likely turn it private. The current routing is great. Not sure why someone thinks they need to change what's already darn near perfect.
Second complaint is they were allowing groups only playing 9 holes to go off of the 10th hole squeezing themselves in between groups making the turn. This impacted pace of play.
Course looks great
Greens looked great rolled fast. Overall course is in great shape. Staff always the best. Gotta play it if your in the area
Challenging but fair
What a bounce back. The grounds crew has done an amazing job bringing the course back to life after being hit by hurricanes. Greens have recovered and are primed for a good winter season. While you will definitely have some tight fairways, this course will force you to hit golf shots if you want to score.
Amazing Course
I got a chance to play Old Corkscrew today and it was amazing. The course is in amazing condition and the service from the staff was top notch. I highly recommend playing here as it is one of the best courses in south west Florida
Amazing layout
Old corkscrew is one of my favourite courses I have ever played. The course has an amazing layout with great features to it. It tests all types of players and the condition is stunning. The staff are very friendly there and they make sure that you enjoy your time there. If you are looking for a place to play in Estero, Old Corkscrew is definitely the best course here!
A World Class Golfing Experience
Old Corkscrew Golf Club is phenomenal. The course is pristine, challenging, and beautifully designed, with every hole feeling unique. The staff are welcoming, the facilities are top-notch, and the overall experience is as professional as it is memorable. Easily one of the best rounds I’ve played—can’t wait to come back.
Classic Florida Layout!
Great track , challenging but rewarding layout . Calls for lots of different shot selections . Fairways were in perfect condition , with well designed green complexes. One of my favorite courses to play in South Florida. Staff Inside/ outside were super friendly and helpful! Would definitely recommend to anyone!
What a fantastic Golf Experience!
What a great course! Incredible work has been done to make this course the best play in SW Florida. Not only do you get a tremendous layout but also the sense that you are on a golf safari vacation- away from it all. The course can be quite a fun challenge both in length and accuracy, Be prepared to weigh risk reward on many holes and to get "corkscrewed". The course is in great shape and definitely will be out to play again when I am back in town.
Beautiful spot despite poor conditions
It's a beautiful course with a lovely layout. But the course is unfair. You get penalized for really good shots. I wouldn't recommend this course to beginners. The bunkers desperately need to be filled with sand. The greens aren't good. I expected more from this golf course. The pace of play was particularly annoying. We had to wait a long time at every hole and after almost five hours only made it to the 17th hole before it got dark. Our playing partners had already given up! A marshal is urgently needed here!! Due to its condition, especially the greens and bunkers, and the pace of play, I wouldn't play or recommend this course again.
Serenity Now
As soon as we dropped our clubs off, Eric and the outside operations staffs were courteous and friendly even with a packed tee sheet. Zane and the pro shop staff were cordial with a ready smile and a helping hand. Warming up was a treat actually hitting off of grass instead of into an aqua range. Even with a packed tee sheet the rangers kept the pace of play steady finishing in under 4.5 hours while still enjoying the characteristics of each individual hole. Great lies in the fairways and the greens rolled true this early in the season. On the turn the drink specials were phenomenal and the food was made fresh to order. What a great place for a special outing no homes, plenty of wildlife, and swfl nature on a Jack Nicklaus ‘Golden Bear’ signature property.
Not recommended
We played this course again after many years. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Compared to many other courses we've played in recent weeks, the condition doesn't justify the relatively high price. The greens and bunkers, in particular, are average at best. On the plus side, the surrounding nature is still a plus – no disruptive buildings, no construction noise.
The course remains challenging, and you should choose your tee box carefully. Unfortunately, the course also punishes good shots, which we wouldn't expect from a good golf course, regardless of who designed it.
We were particularly annoyed by the pace of play. We played for almost five hours and had to stop after the 17th hole because it was getting dark. Ahead of us were three flights, each with four young men, who turned the course into a party zone with loud music. No one intervened; no marshal ensured a faster pace or appropriate behavior.
For a golf course that aspires to a high standard, its appearance was absolutely disastrous.
A beautiful course
If you want to enjoy a course with wide expanses, go to Old Corkscrew.. Rarely you get to play a course that is not crowded by houses and instead you get to play amongst the natural landscape of Southwest Florida. Within the last year since played, the greens are now rolling true and the fairways continue to be competitive. The staff is always professional and courteous and even as a guest they make you feel like a member. Kudos to the grounds crew, outside operations, the pro shop, and of course the food and bar staff! Thank you for an unforgettable experience and we look forward to experiencing this all again this Saturday! BBMaybank
Best public course in the area!
The last time I played here was 2 years ago on our annual Florida golf trip. I must say this is a completely different course than what we first experienced. The conditions are absolutely perfect! You hate to see a beautiful layout in such poor shape which is how it was the last time. But now tee to green everything is pristine and the greens roll so true. Can’t wait for our trip next year because this place is now by far my favorite I’ve played in Florida!
this course is a "must play it "
Very well kept course, extremely difficult, completely in mother nature, no houses around like at most courses, very friendly manager pro shop,
some of the traps rather unfair...if you hit the trap the slope is down to the wilderness
Good layout put poor conditions
Staff wa s extremely friendly. Course had a challenging layout but as a foursome we all agreed that we would not play the course again because of the condition of the course, especially the greens. It was not worth the value for the money.
