Old Corkscrew Golf Club
About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

9th Green Photo submitted by jmcbride2013 on 04/21/2013
Another on bites the dust
This course used to be one of the better public access courses in the area. Unfortunately, the Hoffman family will be razing the entire course and grounds to build an exclusive club catering to the ultra wealthy and eliminating another public course in the area. They may as well start the project now. The greens and traps are in terrible condition, not what one would expect at a Nicklaus course and the cost to play it. The bright spot is the welcoming staff who I hope will retain their jobs as the facility transforms.
5 stars
Course has come a long way greens look great fairways look great. I always have a great time out here
greens were good but the fairways were very light on grass, not worth the cost and was a 5 hour round
very disappointed in the condition of the fairways
Very hard course
An incredibly difficult golf course particularly around the greens. Challenging off the tee but the run offs around the greens makes this course really made for pros. Only play it if you like a difficult challenge. Shooting within ten shots of your handicap would be excellent.
Great Golf Outing!
Excellent Golf Challenging but a great time. Plenty of challenges through the entire layout.
Thanks Michelle for getting us out early, see you and the staff again soon. Well worth the drive from Tampa FL.
10/10
The course is in great shape always love coming here
Will be returning soon
After one round at Old Corkscrew, it instantly became my favorite public track in SW FL. Different holes require different shots and strategic maneuvers. Greens were as pure as they come. No residences in sight, which allows you to fully immerse yourself in the course. Would give it a 6th star if I could!
Outstanding. Play it before it goes private!
Friendly staff, really outstanding, from checking in to cart gal to bags attendant. Outstanding layout. Late Spring/Early Summer this course will undergo huge reno and then become expensive private course.
The greens are back!
The greens are back and rolling true—making birdie putts has never felt better! The course is in fantastic shape, and you can really see the attention to detail. On top of that, the staff couldn’t be more friendly and accommodating. From start to finish, they make you feel welcome and ensure you have an amazing experience. Highly recommend playing here!

Gone down hill!
I’ve played this course probably 20 times over the last decade and the conditions currently (greens) are poor for a $200 plus course. The greens were playable today but ran maybe at a 10 on the stimp meter and are no where close to the conditions prior to the sale of the course a couple of years ago. Supposedly they are going to shut the course down, redesign it and open up as a private club. Why would you want to redesign one of the few Jack Nicklaus courses in America? The course is a $125 to $150 course with the current greens. They need to redo the greens or sell the course. Also do away with the nonstop ads on the cart screen for the $35 lobster roll sandwich. I don’t mind paying up for a nice course but the conditions don’t warrant the price.
Great course very challenging
We reviewed this course before playing. This course had some issues with fungus on the greens months before our rounds. This was one of my favorite courses. I’ve played in Florida. The course was in great shape and greens were in good shape also. Lots of work and maintenance have been done for this course to be in the shape that it’s in. I would recommend this course to anyone that loves the game of golf. It’s beauty and challenging greens. Will make this one of your top courses to play. Put the course at the top of your list. Happy Golfing
Great, Fair, Challenging Course
Course is in great shape, well maintained. Very friendly staff from the moment you arrive. Well conditioned practice area. Beautiful layout that is not surrounded by tracks of homes. You really feel like the course was carved out of the Florida wilderness and miles away from the bustle of Bonita, Ft. Myers, and Naples.
Two non-golf related complaints:
Unfortunate this course has been bought by a private equity and will redevelop the course and likely turn it private. The current routing is great. Not sure why someone thinks they need to change what's already darn near perfect.
Second complaint is they were allowing groups only playing 9 holes to go off of the 10th hole squeezing themselves in between groups making the turn. This impacted pace of play.
Course looks great
Greens looked great rolled fast. Overall course is in great shape. Staff always the best. Gotta play it if your in the area
Challenging but fair
What a bounce back. The grounds crew has done an amazing job bringing the course back to life after being hit by hurricanes. Greens have recovered and are primed for a good winter season. While you will definitely have some tight fairways, this course will force you to hit golf shots if you want to score.
Amazing Course
I got a chance to play Old Corkscrew today and it was amazing. The course is in amazing condition and the service from the staff was top notch. I highly recommend playing here as it is one of the best courses in south west Florida
