Old Corkscrew Golf Club
About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

9th Green Photo submitted by jmcbride2013 on 04/21/2013
Beware!!
The staff was amazing and was very upfront with the condition of the greens. And while the rate to play was discounted, it was discounted enough as the greens were extremely bad with many not having a blade of grass on them. Their rate should be much less than charged given the greens condition.
I've played the course a few times before and was looking forward to playing again. However, I walked away disappointed. In the past the greens were great today terrible. I understand the course is going to go private.
I had planned to rebook for a couple more rounds but will move to another course.
UNPLAYABLE
Greens were horrible. Worst I have ever played. They should have told us before we played.
An utter disaster and rip off.
I guess it’s safe to say how disappointed I was with round. Normally I use golf advisor to check out recent reviews to ensure I am getting what I pay for. When you pay $175 + for a round you expect a $175 experience. The tees, fairways and course layout is decent. The greens are an utter disaster. This course should not be open for play. The better business bureau has probably gotten complaints.
DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY on this catastrophe.
Obviously the course management has been tasked with stealing whatever revenue they can.
I WILL never come back. I feel sorry for cart bag staff, starters, rangers and behind the counter help. They must hate their jobs listening to customers complain all day about the crap show they have going.
I will be reaching out to golf now and tell them to pull their tee time offerings for this train wreck, I have been corkscrewed on this deal.
The greens are in horrifically bad shape
There’s no warning from the Pro Shop that the greens absolutely suck. At least half of them are sand covered in dead. To charge that rate for such bad greens is outrageous. The fairways and tea boxes were fine. The reality is if you go to bad lying in the fairway and you’re playing the ball up it doesn’t matter. But when you’re on the green you don’t have any choice. Rolling it through sand and dead crap That experience. Won’t be back. Used to be awesome, is no longer. Just another public course.
Greens are unplayable.
Be prepared for greens that are diseased and patched throughout the golf course. Not worth the price until the greens are fixed.
Diseased Greens
I had heard that the greens had a disease but didn’t think they would be that bad. More than a few had ‘dirt’ spots and the grass is allowed to grow longer to keep them from dying out completely. Was told the greens will be replaced, wait for it, April of 2026! The pace of play was slow, waiting on almost every shot. The fees have been reduced some but $200 plus is expected for a special outing.
The greens are a mess
I would estimate that at least nine out of 18 greens are burned out and dead, covered in sand and dead grass. They should be embarrassed by the condition of the greens. They provided no warning that the greens were that bad. To pay over $200 for a round of golf is criminal. They put us off on the backside and when we came around to the front, we waited on the last five holes. There was no martial out there. Can’t say enough about how bad the greens were.
GREENS ARE GARBAGE
Place needs to tear out the Greens and redo them. Pretty sad. Beautiful Golf course is. Scrap hole because the GRENS are not fit for a Playground
Greens in awful condition
The staff should have informed us of the terrible condition of the greens prior to swiping our credit card for 200.00 bucks a player . After about 5 hours should have went back to the pro shop and demanded a refund!!! The Rangers were apologetic and said they were battling a bad mold problem but that's no excuse for not informing us when we arrived . We've played this course a couple of times each year for the last 6 or 7 years and always thought it was the best course in sw Florida, but now I don't think I'll ever return !!! We were going to talk to the pro shop afterwards but conveniently they closed at 5:00 ,we finished at 5:15 so this is the best outlet to voice my opinion.
Greens were atrocious
The worst greens I have ever played in Florida and to be asked to pay 200$ each for a 4 ball amounts actually to a scam . Looking at reviews on golf now complaints about the greens at this course have been going back to May last year and clearly no improvements have been made -there is still evidence of disease part replacement in areas with just sod and dirt ,its just appalling
Golf Now should be ending its partnership with this course as everyone who books is saying the same thing and frankly it amounts to a criticism of golf now as well as the course
We teed off at 140pm and when we returned to the club no management on site, grill had been closed and still folk on the course -probably the worst experience I have had on a golf course booked via golf now and having then to pay premium rates for nothing better than greens you would find at a cheap municipal course is extremely upsetting Giving you have been getting these reviews for over 8 months also begs the question just what are Golf Now doing to sort out the bad courses they advertise for ?
Greens are about dead in many places
Fairways, roughs and sand are all great. Greens are shot. Starter said they got some disease which is likely true but price is too high for a Nicklaus signature course with such bad greens. The rest of the course was in good shape and many holes present some good challenges and nice views. It’s a nice track and if greens were healthy I would go back soon. For now I will likely wait until next year before playing again.
Worse greens ever played on
We were a 4 ball paid $800
No-one mentioned the greens state when we booked in just took our money.
The greens are all deceased and really unplayable. This is our 1st time in USA and had been looking forward to playing it. $800 )$200 pp is unacceptable in this condition. VERY VERY disappointed feel we've been robbed
Great course... except for the greens
For a very expensive course in season ($225 per person) which is very tough when it's in good shape, the fact that a fungus has taken over their greens made it unplayable for at least half the holes. On some holes anything within 5 feet was deemed "good" because you couldn't putt.
Rest of the course was in good shape and it has some great holes but putting is pretty important.
And we were only told about the greens after my credit card was "Approved."
Should be better
Really nice course with very interesting holes. However, the greens are in horrible condition. Too much money for 18 bad greens.
Old Corkscrew not worth the drive
I played this course last year and it was generally a good experience. However this year when I returned it was entirely different.
The Greens were a combination of dirt and shaggy grass. Very bad condition. Looked like a Fungus s or disease.
Tee boxes weren’t much better. Fairways seemed ok.
Pace of play was slow. We were behind a threesome and had to wait on every shot. A five hour round. ! Never saw a ranger the entire round.
Too bad because it is a challenging layout. Hopefully they can get it back in shape. Definitely not worth the money this year.
