Old Corkscrew Golf Club
About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

The Greens
The greens were terrible and no one mentioned a thing , basically sand on every green. Ball would roll and pick up sand. Spoiled everything Cant believe it i was so embarrassed in front of my guests .
They should give us a credit at least
Playing My Favorite Public Course in SW FL
The course design and layout is exemplary. In addition , because of the fact there are no residences anywhere on course makes it that much more enjoyable .
Unfortunately , even though the conditions on the rest of the course was fine, the condition of most of the greens was so poor, it detracted from the whol experience . I know we paid a discounted fee ($185) , but I would not play it again until the greens were completely repaired or redone. I am truly sorry to have to write this review , because I do really enjoy playing Old Corkscrew. Good luck fixing the greens ….
We did have a slow group in front of us , but we were a threesome and took that into account.
Major disappointment
I cannot ever recall being this disappointed in a course in a very long time. I bought into the hype after reading so many articles in a variety of magazines, checking the ratings in Florida (top 5 for public). I prepaid $235 for 1 pm Saturday tee time. When I checked the gave me shop credit stating the greens fee was now $199. This was a wonderful surprise. No one ever stated why. I found out on the first green. Picture attached. It did not get much better on the remaining 17. If I did not fly in that morning I would have went back and asked for a refund. They have a lot of work to do on these greens to get their ranking back.
Great Track, greens need work
We play here every year as part of our boys golf trip. The layout, course conditions and staff are exceptional. This year we were a little disappointed, the greens got a disease and were in really rough shape. If the rest of the experience hadn’t been great I probably would’ve rated them lower. Hopefully the greens recover before our next visit or the price tag gets lower than $250 because it’s not worth $250 in it’s current condition.
Greens in rough shape (Jan 31, 2025)
Played here 2 weeks ago and only noticed 2 greens that were in rough shape. They kept the pins out of those areas so it didn’t impact play at all. Was certainly good enough to book another round.
This round, there were over half that were not in good shape. They didn’t look aerated but they had very heavy sand and bald patches on many greens. Putts were fast and slow on the same putt.
Course layout is challenging from every tee box as fairways are protected quite well. Staff is great and course is nice but until the greens grow back in, I would pass. Down here in FL, that might be only be a couple of weeks.
Bring your A game!
Difficult course. Lots of water and sand.
Greens need some work.
Disgusting greens not disclosed upon booking
The greens were totally unplayable.
Very arrogant for their Pro to not offer explanation upon booking the tee times.
Pathetic day of golf.
The course has nice Floridian type layout.
Quiet and free of houses, but the experience Was disgusting due the putting on bare dirt and sand
This club should be embarrassed to host golfers
Don’t waste your money here.
Ruined greens
Its a beautiful course - but:
the greens are totally ruinded, the staff told us because of a fungal infestation. Putting was almost impossible. It was not funny.
(I think, Jack Nicklaus would not play here under this conditions.)
They should tell this to their customers before billing the full greenfee or give a discount.
(Excuse my bad english, we are from Germany and wanted to enjoy this great Jack Nicklaus design)
Green’s were terrible!!!!
The green’s have a fungus or parasite (Nematode) that make them unplayable! The course layout is awesome. The people there are awesome, but the greens are unplayable.
Greens ????!!!
I can't believe that not only did they charge me $200.00 fees for me and my three guest but there is absolutely no mention that Greens are the worst greens we have ever payed on. The Greens are covered with sand , soft and granular sand . There is no grass to put on. My guests said they were terrible , I was and am still so embarrassed. When you putt the sand would wrap around the ball and kick the sand up. I want at least a CREDIT !!!
Extremely poor green conditions, I would never play this course again till it’s greens conditions are improved
This course has a really good layout but the greens are so bad, I’ve never seen greens in such poor condition.
DO NOT PLAY IT until it’s condition is improved.
Great Layout. Poor Green Conditions
Played Old Corkscrew many times and usually love the layout and course conditions. Unfortunately, this time out the Greens were in poor condition. I feel that charging full price ($259) without advising of the current greens conditions was really not fair. I paid over $1000 for myself and 3 friends, all were very disappointed.
What happened to the greens?
Played here this week after not having played for 2 years. Love the Nicklaus layout, but he would be embarrassed bay how the greens have been maintained . Or more accurately, not maintained. Some of the worst I’ve seen. Too bad, it’s an awesome track. Will come back again, but if greens are still bad will stop
