Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

A Great Afternoon of Golf
The course is in great shape and the aerated greens are growing in nicely. I played as a threesome and played under 4 hours.
overpriced and slow
I have played this course many times but they have hiked the price up to $99 (Sunday morning) and the condition did not warrant the extra money and was not as good as it used to be. year. for whatever reason, the pace of play is horrendous. there are a few hard holes but it took us 3 hours to play 9 holes. the marshal was sitting on the tee box with 3 groups waiting and did/said nothing to anyone. I went into the clubhouse after 9 and asked for a rain check for 9 holes. the response from the smarmy gentleman at the counter was "why, is it raining?". I will never play this course again. btw, range balls are not included and expensive also.
Great course, would play again!
Only complaint would be the bathrooms- could be cleaned . Was not a great environment for men or women. Other than that, course was great!
course is in great shape
Best ive seen it in years..greens were cleaned up of all the divots no one seems to have the time to fix.. not a landmine field anymore
First Time Playing Lake Presidential
Greens were recently aerated, overall course conditions were good, pace of play could have been better. Will play again if I'm in the area.
slow
5.5 hours to play 18 holes on a Tuesday need to put twosomes together and 5 cart paths only holes didn't help
Everything good
The greens were aerated but that's the nature of this time of year.
Hate when they charge full price for punched greens
Title says it all. 5 plus hours to finish. Partly due to CPO but come on why charge full price when greens rolled like a sandy beach. It's a very good challenge no doubt.
Lake Presidential
Course was in good shape,; however, they did just airrate the greens. They gave a discount for airrating the greens which was nice. Pace of play was a bit slow, mainly due to cart path only.
Need to improve pace of play
Booked a tee time on golf now as a single at 6:45am. Got bumped to 7:05am iin order to get grouped as a foursome. I was OK with that except that we got put behind a foursome that was excruciatingly slow. Waited at almost every hole and ended up playing in about 4:45 min. That pace is way too slow, especially for the first groups to tee off. I trulyI felt sorry for those behind us. The course should send someone out to enforce pace of play and make the round enjoyable for everyone. They could also mandate fast play for the early groups. Anything would have made this round better.
Slow Sunday
No issues with the course conditions. I thought the greens were rolling really well for this time of year. Not the course for a beginner as there are some forced carries. No dobut would play here again, if not for the SLOW play. We teed off at 1040 on Sundy morning and it took 5 hours and 20 mintues to play, with us having to wait to tee off most holes. Made it hard to get into a rythem out there. Otherwise I was happy with the place.
So Close, Yet So Far
A friend (18 hcp) and I (2 hcp) played this course on a Friday morning at the crack of dawn. 6:30a tee time with only a few groups ahead of us. The layout is impressive: challenging, with plenty of variety and difficult-but-fair greens. Many blind shots and holes that you have to play once to know what to do next time—except there won’t be a next time.
Staff was not friendly to us when we checked in; we couldn’t even get coffee at 8:15a when we made the turn. But nothing was as bad as the carts.
The GPS-enabled carts basically ruined the round. Locking up 100 yards from the green and 15 yards before the “Carts Exit” signs was frustrating. Unskippable advertisements that popped up with incredibly loud beeps, sometimes while we were playing shots, was worse. Multiple warnings to “increase pace of play,” also accompanied by loud beeps, when we were virtually alone on the course and played 18 holes in 3.5 hours, was unforgivable.
It’s a shame. The course isn’t really walkable, which means I won’t be going back. Can’t abide those carts again. Using GPS to lock carts before they access greens, etc, is absolutely reasonable—but this was three steps too far.
Good course but hard to get in a rhythm
This was my second time playing this course in 2023 and both times as a single. Staff were great and pace of play wasn't an issue since I was allowed to start off the back. The course was good shape and greens were decent. Only issue with the course itself is that it is not user friendly. 4-5 holes were cart path only and most had cart restrictions within 80 yards. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the course is not easy to walk even with a cart. Great shots may still require hiking gear. This isn't a complaint since the layout is the layout, but for anyone worried about pace of play, Id guess it has less to do with people playing slow and more to do with the actual time it takes to reach your ball. As the title says, you can lose rhythm really fast when traversing the terrain after a tee shot. Overall a good outing, but I don't think I'll play there again.
