Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

What happened to Lake Presidential?
Lake Presidential used to be one of my favorite courses. I had not played it in about two seasons. When I mentioned in my golf chat group that I was playing LP a dear friend said "you'll be disappointed." I played it Monday and its in terrible shape. I said NO WAY!! And sadly, my golfing friend was correct. The course gets lots of play, but I was shocked at the over all conditions of the course. The bunkers have this unruly grass growing on the edges (typically the top side) that really serves no purpose. The starter said "we just don't play out of that stuff - we lift and place?!?!!?" I thought ok it can't be that bad. Well it was. The t-boxes were in terrible shape. No repair boxes or repair mix. They seem to have made the decision to not repair divots as well (there are no divot repair bottles) so the normal landing areas are beat up pretty good. I totally get that we are dealing with COVID, but there are still basic care and feeding that can be done to maintain a course. I play up and down the 270 corridor and in Northern VA. The are doing an amazing job with maintaining course quality during COVID. I hope that the LP folks read this and get it figured out. Word is getting out and you are going to lose customers that remember when LP was one of the best tracks on that side of the DMV.
Excellent & Challenging Course
Played on a Saturday afternoon (2:15 tee time). Pace of play was surprisingly good. Completed round in just over 4 hours.
Course was in excellent condition. Two greens appear to be fighting off a condition (fungus?) but the rest of the greens are in great shape...despite too many golfers forgetting to repair their ball marks...
Course layout is very challenging. Holes 5-8 are quite the “gauntlet”. Quite a few holes require a precise tee shot and length is often required due to a forced carry second shot. One can’t just “grip it and rip it”; need to think your way around the course.
All employees were extremely friendly and helpful. Outstanding customer service despite most of the amenities shut down due to COVID-19.
Highly recommend this course!

Challenging course but in a good way.
I was very pleased with the experience. The people were professional both inside and outside the house. The course was challenging, even from the Blues but it was fair. I really enjoyed the course layout as it forces you to use every club. Besides the price, I enjoyed the round and will definitely consider returning.
One of the best public courses around.
This is one of our favorite places to play, hands down. We’ve been lucky enough to snag some good deals to play here and that makes it that much more worth it.
It’s a beautiful course with memorable, difficult Holes. In our opinion, the course is in great shape. Staff is always super friendly and starters are efficient and stay on top of tee times. Grass range is a big plus as well.
Much Improved
I hadn't reviewed Lake Presidential for a couple of years, but I have to report that the efforts of the superintendent have paid off. The course is in great shape with some of the best greens in the area.
Lake Pres is an enjoyable round with some truly memorable holes. It can be a beast from the Blue tees, however, even for our group of 5-10 handicap players. Many holes play uphill to the green, and on a wet Sunday we had 175-200 in on multiple par 4s after solid drives. It would be great for the management to designate a "hybrid" tee (a mix of the White and Blue) to give a break on some of the longer, uphill holes.
One note: they often switch nines on weekends to help speed up play. Be prepared to start on 10 and finish on 9, the over-water par 3.
Fun Couse***
The course was in great condition, but the pace of play was very slow for a weekday round. Would gladly recommend this course to play, no matter what tee you play there are plenty of challenges.
Way over priced
First time playing here this year this course is way over priced unless you can grab a golf deal. Lucky that’s what I got it was $25 on Golfnow. They need to offer a handicap flag, I’m handicapped and there are a ton of hills and all of the extremely hilly holes you can’t drive on the major one is hole 18 it’s a par 5 cart path is at the top of the hill and you have to walk down to the ball and back up to the cart. I don’t understand why the bar isn’t open and the kitchen is closed? If you want to make money open up so people can eat and drink. Probably won’t be back for a long time due to the hilly situation it just to difficult for me to do those hills and it makes playing golf not fun for me! If they start allowing people with handicap to ride one the hard holes.
Same old Pres
Played here over a dozen times over the years and this course has always struggled with pace of play, rude staff, and being overpriced. Course layout is nice and fairways in decent shape but the greens leave much to be desired.
$92 for a weekday morning round, with the added bonus of A very rude cart guy that has to be visibly calmed down by a pro shop member because he can’t control his emotions when dealing with customers.
Pace of play was behind all day starting on hole 1. The marshals have been for show throughout the many times I’ve played here because I’ve had poor experiences almost every time I’ve played here.
Spending more than I would for a guest round at Woodmore, a private course, with no food/bev service, a 5 hour round, and rude staff is a combination for a poor experience.
I thought that after giving them a year off when they allegedly made “improvements” would be better, but alas it’s the same old lake pres.
So much potential but clearly mismanaged.
Oak creek is down the road with a much better course, staff, and price.
Great golf course
Great golf course, excellent condition and staff could not be better.
Too slow
While the course has a nice layout it is among the slowest I have played in ten years. At many points during the round there were three foursomes on the same hole. No course Marshalls around and a couple of groups quit after 13/14 holes (after being on the course for 4 hours already)
Great course. Great value!
If you can grab a $25 hot deal, there's no better value in the area. The course is in great shape. Keep it up Lake Pres!
Great round
We were able to get this course at an incredible hot deal for $30. At that price the course is amazing value. It was in above average shape and pace of play was good. Some of the holes are a little bit unfair ad it is a very tough golf course but overall it is definitely somewhere I would return to and play again. AT regular price the course may be a little overpriced, however it is a great spot and a very pretty golf course. Ultimately a good experience and a great day on the links.
