About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Golfer Reviews
Great course, average condition
The course layout is amazing. Pace of play was great. The greens were in poor condition except for #18. Many of the tee boxes had little to no grass on them. Fairways and rough were in good shape. Staff was very friendly. For the price I expected better condition but overall I had a great time and enjoyed the course. I would recommend it if you’re in the area.
This course is not worth $85.00
Some of the tee boxes you are hitting off dirt - Grass has grown up around the bunkers and some of the greens are compressed dirt - what a rip off!
Needs a few changes
I really enjoy playing here there’s just one issue on a few holes you can’t ride the golf cart on, the one that is t h e worst is 18 they need to change the cart path and put it down on the flat surface instead of on the hill. Handicap people like myself it’s very difficult to walk up and down after each hit. It would be fine if I could drive on the course on the far side by the lake or straight up the middle. It’s becuase of holes like that at this course that I can’t play here as much as I would like. Great course other than that though.
Greens lacking repair of ball marks
Tee to grreen course was in great shape but the lack of ball mark repair by players has put a lot of wear and tear on the greens
Why not informed?
I’ll start with the fact that it was cart path only, but that is my primary complaint. Can’t that fact be put on the website in the morning? The pro shop did not tell us. The starter did not tell us. The only way we knew was it was stickered on our scorecard. We know the reason why. They want to get our money and then let us deal with the consequences. I am a 70 year old golfer who found it impossible to play this incredibly hilly course by cart path only. It absolutely ruined the day. No excuse that no one informed us ahead of time.
Solid course, just not right now
Haven't played a round of golf in two months. Got a 'hot deal' for $77 compared a higher rate. The course started off solid...ended not great. It had just rained the day before and course was still soaked. It did not seem like they had a great drainage system set up. A slow progression of bad conditions throughout the course. Lots of dead grass in fairways, greens were dying out, sand traps weren't sandy, tee boxes were horribly kept up. Honestly was pretty disappointed, because the photos made it seem pristine (I included the fairway from 18). It was not the rain's fault from the day before, but it seemed to be poorly taken care of throughout the summer.
As for a golf course (if the conditions of the course were great) it is very challenging. I would not recommend for someone who hasn't played in a while. There was not a ton of forgiveness to it. Some gimmicky holes (lay up with an iron/wood off tee box and then approach the green) that were difficult. Very long and narrow but honestly a very good course!
Overall, if the course were in better shape, I would totally play here again. As of today, I could not image paying over $60 for 18 holes here. Maybe next season!
Not worth the money
Very excited to play this course having been named #2 public in Maryland but I can think of at least 20 better courses in Maryland to play over this. First and foremost the conditions were not great. The front nine was okay but the back nine was horrendous. Burned out and dead greens and rotten grass all through out the fairways and off the green. Most of the time the lie would be unplayable and we would have to move it to actual grass. Secondly was pace of play, 5.5 hours for a round. No marshals or anyone on the course to keep people moving. Called the club house and a person came out once and said it should get moving again and it ddint. One of the worst golf experiences I've had for a long time. I could understand if it was a municipal course but when you are paying close to $100 you expect better. Only good thing I can say about the course was the layout The course made you think about every shot, and you couldn't just take your driver out on every hole and blast away, you had to hit your spots
Horrible Shape - Nonstop Sprinklers
Only made it thru 9 holes, conditions were too bad to continue. From the chewed up or non-existent tee boxes to the patchy greens, I’ve never seen the course in worse shape. To top it off the sprinklers followed us on every hole and green. When I called into the club house they had no idea how to fix it and offered us one beer. The course was also cart path only after substantial rain over the evening and last month. Not sure why the sprinklers were on. We stopped at the turn and asked for a rain check and were refused. I’ve played this course many times before but I’m not sure if I’ll return. Check conditions before you play. Buyer beware.
Good value
Long course with some challenging holes. Stay out of the rough as it is thick and high. Will definitely return.
What happened
It's never good when you check in and the guy behind the counter apologies for the course conditions but still takes your money. The tee boxes are awful, greens have brown spots everywhere. This course is a roller coaster of conditions, one summer great, next awful. I realize COVID has an effect but most other courses in Maryland look great. Hard to believe this was once ranked #2 public course in Maryland. I will wait to see some positive reviews before heading back. What a shame.
Dead Presidents
The bones of this course are there. The layout is really nice and challenging. But the conditions of the course, are bad at best and way too many holes are just gross. I'm not sure what happened here or when it got rated #2 in the state. But if this is what MD has to offer as it's second best option, I'd recommend golfing in a different state. There isn't one hole that's in decent shape tee box to green. Most are a wreck on the tee box, followed by bald, black molded fairways. Finishing with greens that have black mold and are generally in a state of lack of maintenance. I gold all over the state and well aware of current conditions (CV-19, heat, etc) but the conditions here aren't because of them, it's lack of proper care and effort. Grass grown up all over. Bald moldy spots (large spots) on fairways and greens and rough. Most tee boxes are just a wreck at best (a handful are downright beautiful).
At the regular rate of $85 it's a downright sham. Even at the discounted rate of $65 (12:30) it's over priced....for the conditions.
It has some fantastic holes. We played from the tips and the course challenges you. And if Troon ever decides to put her back in even respectable condition, it could be fantastic.
I understand that golf websites are like dating apps, all the pictures are from better days and Photoshop, but dang, it should be recognizable, we felt like we got catfished.
One of my favorite courses around
As usual, the conditions at Lake Presidential were great. The greens had been recently aerated, but were still very playable. The course plays long from the tips and the recent rainfall added a little softness everywhere. One thing that I have noticed over the years, is that the course holds a lot of water, and can be pretty soggy after a rain. also, the course is cut through the hillsides, so there are a LOT of fairways where a good shot will leave you with the ball a foot above or below your feet, so practice those shots if you go there. Overall, its a great course!!
Good shape
Fairways are in great shape, some of the greens and tee boxes are showing damage but overall course is in much better shape them most others in the area. And the staff from checking in to starter to pulling in the carts were all excellent!
