Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Tough Track that is Worth the Play
Always enjoy playing here- conditions are great, staff is friendly, and the layout provides a challenge for all levels of player.
Challenging but fun course
Lake Presidential is a well designed course with several challenging holes. Perhaps a bit too tough for some but still worth a try. Course in the best shape of any course I have played in quite some time.
Toughest Parkland Course I Ever Played
This golf course is beautiful. Nice backrop every hole. However, for a short hitter like me, there is no let up every hole! Rough is dense. Greens are big and a good bit of them have collection areas. If you are not on your A game, you are going to have a miserable 4 hours playing it! (I paid $35 for club rental, just FYI.)
Longest round of my life
group of 12 of us. Tee time was 11 am . we finished at 5PM.. there is no excuse. They put a tournament out on a Saturday morning. and did not leave enough time afterwards for the public play. We waited on every tee except one. sometimes all 12 of us where on the tee. No marshall. The pro did come by and apologize once. The group in front of us played the blue tee and had no business doing so. They should warn people before they tee off over 6600 yards from blue. Will never play on weekend again unless I tee off first. I did mention it to pro shop when we finished. They did nothing to incentivize us to come back.
Could be better
Each year this course seems to go down hill. Course has potential to be beautiful! But.. Never seen so much crab grass on course. Does look they put much seed or preventive weed kill of any kind, lot of bare spots..Never went inside or used facilities so I score it an average 3. Cart girl said it was last go round on 2nd hole at 4pm, still had 4 hours of sunlight, so also scored average. Good price for hotdeal, but wouldn’t pay full price
Disappointed
Course is in terrible shape. Pace of play is way too slow. No Marshall and no one cutting the grass. Greens are burning up and dry spots everywhere
Way too slow
The pace of play was way too slow. It took nearly 5 1/2 hours to get through the round. We waited on every hole sometimes having multiple groups waiting. It was the same when I played the course before - was hoping that was a one-time situation. Guess it’s the norm. Add in that the course has seen better days it is not going to be a future destination for me.
Poor conditions
Really cool layout. The course is in terrible condition.
Will not return to this course
Lake Presidential has had a lot of problems over the years, which is a shame because it should be a beautiful course.
Currently - as of August 2019 - the course is in very poor shape. It has been this way the past few years and new management seems unable to turn it around. Splotchy greens that don't allow putts to roll true, big burnouts in fairways, some tee boxes just dead. Their approach to fixing it is to flood the course in the morning and then cart path only after 1pm - both far from ideal.
The service here is also poor. Chaotic is a better word, no one seems to know what they are doing - from the starters to the snack bar.
Recently played 2 rounds here at 5.5 and 5.0 hours respectively. I have wanted to keep this in the rotation but am giving up. Go somewhere else in the area - this place needs a complete reset!
Somewhat Disappointed...
My son-in-law got a really good deal on a foursome, so it cost us $48/player (vs. the Saturday rack rate of $85). I was a little concerned about course conditions, but we decided to try it anyway. Here's the good news...they are letting you run on most of the fairways--only 3 are roped off (of course, other than the par 3's). The fairways are mostly green. And, the bunkers had nice sand in them. The bad news...the fairways were extremely wet and soggy, which made easy pitch shots into duffs. The greens were a little long and slower than normal, and had a huge number of unrepaired ball marks. The fairway, also, had unfilled divots. This is not the course's fault, but rather inconsiderate golfers who are too lazy to fix the damage they have done!! Unfortunately, there was a lot of unmowed grass on hills, around bunkers, and on mounding. This could have been mowed--it just made the course ugly and slowed down play because of players trying to play out of it. Additionally, there were a lot of aprons and around the greens that was burned out and had loss the grass. This course is no where near an $85 course and I'm glad we had a deal. I will say, though, that the staff at Lake Presidential is always welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. Having said that, this course needs a lot of work to bring it back to being in pristine shape and worth the $85. It will be a little while before I try it again.
Great layout, bad conditions
Our hot summer has certainly taken its toll on Lake Presidential. You can see from the start that the course layout is something special. The elevation changes and green-side undulation is really neat.
That said, the course was truly in bad shape. Every single hole had significant burnout areas, in fairways, rough, and on and around the greens. The greens were also extremely slow (assuming they are keeping them long to fight the burnout already taking place). You can see that they are fighting an uphill battle given the lack of wind circulation on many of the holes (there are large fans present on many greensides).
It's a shame, because this course has a fantastic and challenging layout. My guess is when Sept/Oct roll around the conditions will improve, but I think there must be something else missing in the turf management to account for the current state of things.
Price somewhat made up for conditions, though I'd gladly pay 25-30 more to play somewhere else. I hope they turn it around.
Soggy Conditions
Played Lake Presidential on Sunday 8/4. The course is nicely laid out with well cared for greens. Unfortunately they seem to be over watering in the mornings turning the fairways into ponds. These conditions are not enjoyable. With a better irrigation plan this course could be one of the better public courses in the area. Until then, wear your waders.
Slow Greens
Greens were running maybe a 5 or 6. If you are a lower handicap this will be extremely frustrating for you. The course was in good shape but the greens and pace of play didn’t make it worth the money.
Very fun layout
My only complaint is the greens were pretty slow. The course overall was awesome. Probably my favorite layout of any course I’ve played in Maryland or Virginia. Highly recommend.
