Soldiers Creek Golf Club
About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways. The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. Our friendly staff welcomes you to play the newest course on the Gulf Coast. Yes, we are now open. Come spend some time with family or friends. Relax and enjoy a round of golf in this natural setting.

WITH TWELVE YOU GET SLOW PLAY
Front nine was going well but slowed considerably when we got to #9. The back nIne was a nightmare. 3 plus hours for 9 holes with cart. Turns out the course had allowed a birthday party with 12 people on the back nine.
When we finally were allowed to play through (on the 17th hole) ALL TWELVE WERE PLAYING THE SAME HOLE.....NO RANGERS.... 12 DRUNKS IN CARTS. APPARENTLY THEY STARTED AT 11AM AND THEY FINISHED AFTER WE DID AT 4:30....NOT BAD FOR NINE HOLES
Pleasantly Intimate Holes
This course is great fun to play. The holes are lined with mature trees such that you can only see the hole you are playing whilst playing. There are plenty of rolling hills and the fairways are sufficiently wide. Greens hold well and faster than most
Needs winter maintainance
Can always get on this course...(there is a reason). This course is a great layout and pleasing to the eye EXCEPT they put no work into it to make winter play look more like summer...no overseading and spray painting the greens green.
Review
Already reviewed this course twice but golf now keeps emailing me to rate it again.
Golf in Feb
Course layout is very good, moderate amount of grass on fairways and there are two to three types of grass growing on greens. This could be an excellent course
needs winter maintainance
not much grass on fairways and a lot of poa anna on the greens.
Great layout- nice hole separation
Course is fun, challenging & gives you the impression you’re the only ones there on each hole.
Only drawback is the last 2 time’s we played there inexperienced “golfers” jammed up the course.
Group in front of us had one bag for 2 people and neither of them belonged on a real course, parking 3 feet off greens, in front of greens, walking and driving like there was no tomorrow- had holes open in front of them forever but clueless as to letting anyone through.
No ranger to help - yet the starter camped on his spot on the #1 tee with nothing to do.
Great course
I love this course it is one of my favorites in this area due to the quietness and Remoteness . The staff are very accommodating as well.
Good value
I have played this course numerous times. Always good.
Bob from WI
Busy course. Pace fair. Greens fast
Fairways mostly fair. Its February though.
I play this course several times when I visit Gulf Shores. Good choice.
I plan to play Soldiers several times and always put it in my golf plans while visiting Gulf Shores. Good choice.
Getting better
I play Soldier’s Creek every year. I play in very early spring, but this year the greens, tee boxes and fairways were in better shape than in years past. I play this course because I love the layout. It is interesting and although quite wooded, every hole and every challenge is different from the ore hole. I was told they had lost over 1,000 trees from recent hurricanes, and at times you could see the damage this caused them, they were most of the time out of play, and have been cleared and removed by the owners and their workers. I am pleased the course is getting better than it has been.
Nice time nice day nice course
Pretty good greens- a few had some sprigs of Ferrell grass slowing things down, but puttable for the most part and most of the time quicker than they looked.
Nice mixture of wide & narrower fairways doglegs and reasonable par 3’s.
Wasn’t crowded so things moved along well.
