Twisted Dune Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Twisted Dune Golf Club is a public, 18-hole course that is reminiscent of traditional Scottish courses. Located right on the Jersey Shore, Twisted Dune Golf Club is popular for it's beautiful views and challenging game. The deep ravines and grassy hills provide picturesque scenery and they also create interesting hazards for a good game.
Twisted Dune Golf Club lives up to his name with its twisting links-style layout, elevation changes, and rolling fairways. The golf course has par-5 holes that stretch over 500 yards as well as several par-4's and par-3's. The course also has wide fairways and large greens of bent grass.

Complete airation
Going to the course I knew that the greens were going to be aerated. Did not realize that the fairways were going to be aerated as well. Fairways didn't look like they were in the best condition before aerating. The staff was friendly enough when we arrived. Got paired up with a very nice couple. We waited on almost every hole but that wasn't the issue. We were on the 13th hole in the ranger came up and back of us and said we need to speed it up. We said hello we're waiting for the group in front of us and they are waiting for the group in front of them. I thought he was very rude without even checking to see that we were waiting for the foursome on the Green. It seemed like there were two kids that I have a feeling belong to somebody in the clubhouse. They were not in back of us on the front nine but happened to getting back of us on the back nine. So I think they jumped in front of the foursome that was in back of us and figured they should be able to play as soon as they were ready. I've played on courses at aerated the greens some are better than others they had so much sand on them it was like putting on the beach. Don't think I'll come back to this course again.
Bad Conditions Worse Attitude
I’ll start by saying I really like the layout of Twisted Dunes. I’ve played it a couple of dozen times so I’ll keep coming back because of the uniqueness of the design and the challenge the offers. My experience the day I played ranks among one of the worst in my 40 years of playing. My son played the day before and he warned me the course was beat up. He told me much of the course was aerated and there were many muddy and wet areas throughout the course. When I checked in, I inquired about the conditions and the fact they were charging a full rate given the conditions. The guy checking me in gave me instant attitude and said I don’t have to play. It was early on a Saturday morning and other options were few. I simply mentioned charge full rate given the conditions without warning on their website or reservation was not reasonable. This escalated into an F-bomb tirade like I’ve never seen. He told me only two holes on the course were punched and everything else was fine. I told him I heard otherwise and my son knows good and bad when he sees it but if I’m mistaken, I’ll be sure to make it a point to return to the shop and apologize. Needless to say, I did not need to revisit the shop. All of the fairways were punched. Some were better recovered than others. 2/3 of the fairways were a muddy mess. They also slit seed in the first 10’ of primary rough on some holes and that was even worse. They over water this course like you wouldn’t believe. We haven’t had rain in weeks yet many fairways had standing water. Carts would kick up rooster tales. We just rolled the ball everywhere playing lift clean and place due to the mud balls and lack of grass. I will say the greens were about the best I’ve seen them. They rolled fast and true, so the day was not a complete waste. The bunkers were also better than usual. A good improvement over earlier in the year. When I finished the round the bag guy who runs a damp rag over the clubs looking for a tip for doing nothing, asked me how it was out there? I said you want the truth or what you want to hear? I told him about the experience and he immediately copped an attitude. He said what do you expect for a course that gets 220 rounds a day every day? I play all over eastern PA and western NJ on courses that get Similar play. Heron Glen, Jeffersonville and even 5 ponds. They all get similar high rounds and their conditions are far superior to TD. I truly understand the need for course maintenance and I appreciate that grounds crews get little to no respect for the fine jobs that they do but, when a course is this beat up, charging full rate $115 is flat out wrong. This course has a rep for having an attitude in the shop. The starter was super nice and professional, dealing with a 40 minute fog delay. I’ll play here again, knowing the pro shop attitude comes with the territory. I’ve never been treated so poorly. I’ll avoid the course if there’s a chance it’s been punched. The guy behind the register did realize he overstepped and gave us free range balls, but it was too little too late. I gave overall rating average because it’s usually better and the greens were very good on this day.
Challenge, but fair
They were working on fall maintenance of rough, I did a good job of keeping it in fairway. Fun par 3s a little slow play, but it was a beautiful day. Golf course was full. I play it several times a year. One of my favorites
Nice course impacted by hot season
Fairways and some tee boxes looked to have suffered from bouts of hot weather with dried out and in some cases dead areas. Greens were in pretty nice shape overall. Course layout is challenging and unforgiving of errant shots in thick scrubgrass waste areas between teebox and fairway as well as in many of the sides of fairways. Many bunkers are quite deep; too many bunkers had insufficient sand with hard-pack conditions and /or pebbles/stones strewn about in them.
Disappointed
Greens were excellent though very fast. Fairways were terrible. Bunkers were poorly maintained. Too expensive for condition of the course.
Love Twisted Dune
Love this course it’s very scenic, great layout and pretty open so hard but not that hard especially if you play from the correct tees. Friendly staff. Really fast greens are fun. Only issue is no alcohol or restaurant just grab and go stuff. Regardless we will be back.
Twisted Review!
Fairways bad - Just Airated!
Greens poor shape!
Golf cart - BAD CONDITION - no brake on pedal.
Roof cracked with sharp edges. No rear hood to protect clubs from rain. Noisy Cart & Old cart = Disgraceful!
Starter - Not friendly!
Fun course
Played my usual evening nine holes. We were paired up with a father son group that was very nice! The course is a little beat up but very fun to play!
Love this course
So many wonderful things to say. The course is beautiful, staff is extremely personable and accommodating.
First Time
First time playing this course since it’s a “top 5 rated” public NJ course. Its a fine course, quite challenging and fun round, but by no means even Top 10 NJ public course
