Great experience on a great course.
My wife and I played this beautiful course ofna great day in October. Temps in the 80's, little wind and blue skies. The course is in wonderful shape and just a pure joy to play. The fairways were in great condition and the rough is not all that difficult as long as you are just off of the fairway. There is plenty of places to get in trouble though with deep bunkers throughout...either greenside or waste ones. As stated the rough was not overly difficult but that is because they let the brush and desert areas take penalty strokes away if you manage to find those areas.
The greens were all very very true and in superb condition. The speed was just right on them and small undulations were true and accurate.
The staff was excellent in their care and attention. They have cold water stations every three holes as well as in the practice area and that is truly a nice amenity when playing in the hot Texas weather. On top of that the cart girl was very good in keeping her rounds moving throughout our day.
Butterfield Trail was a true gem to play and we are very happy to have picked it as our Texas course on our personal journey of golfing travels in the USA.
Truely Outstanding Golf Course
These guys are trying to be a world class golf course and it shows! This trac is a VERY challenging but WOW, what a layout! Not unfair but great 'Risk/Reward' Golf Course. You can play it safe or go for it and take some chances. I will DEFINATELY play here again when I come back to El Paso for business! Oh....one more thing..... I have NEVER seen so many little Cottontail Bunnies! Must have see 300+ little Cottontails...and Quail and Jackrabbits. Very cool!
An Oasis in West Texas
Excellent track in west Texas. Wasn't expecting to find such a great course in El Paso. Found an amazing hot deal for a Sunday ($35 at 1:00p). Course was wide open, ended up playing 27 holes in 4 hours. The condition of the course was most excellent, and the weather was quite good (a bit windy). It's the little things that matter most, like water bottles on ice on every 3rd hole (El Paso is at approx. 4,000 feet).
Improving value
Butterfield has always been one of my favorite courses in El Paso, and now they're working on making it a better value. The pricing policy needs some major overhauling, if the Airport BOTs set the pricing , then maybe they should realize the difference in a customer from neighboring counties vs flying in from far away.
status quo!
Every time I play here it is a great experience..tee to green! Excellent difficult course with rolling hills, sloping fairways and greens, risk reward and shot makers lines. Service is top notch friendly and practice facilities are very nice. I played Dove Mountain 2 weeks ago ago as nice as the course was, I'll take Butterfields service and staff any day!
Excellent.. like always!
Never disappointed by this quality course or it's outstanding staff. Always enjoy the challenge of this undulating course. Greens are consistent speeds and well kept. Staff is far and away the best in town.
Great Course
If you want to play the best course in El Paso this is it. Awesome course, great staff, cool clubhouse. Good price for the top quality
Best muni in Texas
El Paso isn't easy to get to, but if you ever find yourself coming though, take time to play Butterfield Trail. It's one of the best municipals in the country and perhaps the best in Texas. Architect Tom Fazio got a huge piece of land to work with right next to the airport and went nuts. This isn't a desert course at all; it's really sort of a parkland/links hybrid with Fazio's signature bunkers. From the back tees, the course is extremely long, but it does play fast.
This is the finest public course in the El Paso/Southern NM area.
This magnificent course has a championship layout, excellent greens, and fairways and tees that are in significantly superior condition to any course within the area. With 4 sets of tees it challenges any age golfer. It is a joy to play.
