Balnagask Golf Course

About
Set in a legendary location with historic views, Balnagask Golf Course is a coastal golf experience that will leave players in awe from both the challenging layout and spectacular landscape. Overlooking the ocean, as well as nearly 20 historical and archaeological sites - including a Robert Stevenson-designed lighthouse that was built in 1833 - Balnagask is truly an Aberdeen and Scotland gem.
Playing to more than 6,000 yards, this par-70, 18-hole course will challenge players with its creative and rolling layout, all the while dazzling with its unique aesthetic qualities. Holes such as the No. 10 - known as "Magazine" will have long hitters extending themselves, as it plays to 485 yards. Nonetheless, accuracy is of the utmost to put up good numbers at this parklands style course that gives a nod to famous links courses.
Apart from the 18-hole course at Balnagask, the course also includes a nine-hole, pitch and putt course that is perfect for beginners or for players looking to get their short game in shape before tackling the 18-hole run.

We played Balagask on a Saturday afternoon, when the when was blowing upwards of 30 mph at times. It made for a true Scottish golf experience. The course is on the water, and has beautiful views of Aberdeen. Oh ya, and it's hilly. The course was in good shape, and lots of fun to play. This is a course that would be best to be played twice, as there are a number of blind shots, and funny bounces. We enjoyed it, just wish there were pull carts to rent, as it's quite a walk.
Aberdeen Harbour Golf
Just a great day playing a links course overlooking Aberdeen harbour. So much fun, but man the wind was killer. This is a fun course, with lots of up and downs, so it's quite a walk. Loved it. Fantastic value for what we payed.
FYI- This is an out and back course, so there are no facilities except at the starter shed. Bring all you need (food & drink) as there is nothing available on the course.. For the ladies, there is no bathrooms either. Also, there were no push carts available when we played, so we totes our bags.
Excellent value
Loved it a good challenge even for single handicap golfer superb greens great condition fantastic view 👍
Good course
Really decent course. Conditions were grear.had a blast. Would recommend
Stunning Golf Course
It’s always a pleasure to play Balmagask golf course. With its stunning views of Aberdeen and the lighthouse and see views. Always a chance to see Dolphins at the harbour mouth. Course is in great condition. Never disappoints.
Well worth a visit.
The course is in very good condition and the greens are looking inviting.
The views from the course are spectacular. The course is a bit exposed to the prevailing wind due to is proximity to the shore and is a bit of a climb at some of the holes.
Terrible design
Majority of holes are blind tee shots, and not a single bell to let players behind know it's safe to tee off. Balls flying in all directions as a result. Also very hilly and poor layout in general.
On the plus side the course condition was good, especially the greens.
Hidden Gem
I played this course 35 years ago and I've always remembered it. Returned on Thursday 1/8/24 and found it still fabulous and in very good condition. So many challenging holes and a real test. Whenever I come to Aberdeen I will play here first .
Fun course. Be ready for a workout, very hilly. Lots of blind holes, some would seem dangerous but it wasn’t very busy when I played. Staff very friendly
Not great
Let's start with the course condition which to be fair was in excellent shape, thats were it finishes for me.
Far to many blind shots for my liking....hitting to posts its not for me.....some cracking veiws of the city though.
Links golf in good interesting location ( Aberdeen harbour area)
Easy to book and great value via GN. My first time booking. Friendly and helpful starter. Had not played this course in Aberdeen before but know city reasonably well and location and views good. Still winter course but did have normal greens which was good given time of year .
A few blind holes for approach shots and no obvious warnings ( bells etc) so some potential risks. I did link up with a local player who was very friendly and helpful ( a good player) and we had a very enjoyable round of golf before sun set.
I am a member of a links golf club in East Lothian and found this course to be good condition for time of year , excellent value , great views, and I would certainly recommend to others and would play myself again , particularly in spring summer season.
Wonderful links course
This course was a delightful find on the edge of the Aberdeen harbor with great views and wonderful creative holes. A course you could play over and over and never get tired of. The wind was up and and it was a staunch defender of the links.
Brings a smile to my face
This great fun, open course, but still have to think and place ball for best chance. A couple of non-description holes beside the new harbour, otherwise so well thought out. Course in good condition. Fairways and greens very playable. And for the price for 18 holes, can’t beat it!
Tough & hilly links course
Played here in July. Course fast and dry. Very hilly for a links course. Be aware, only 1 buggy and 1 hand cart maybe available so call ahead to see if one can be found. Particularly important if you’re flying into the area. Lots of blind and uphill holes. We heard afterwards to ‘always use the lighthouse as your aiming point on blind holes’.
