Hazlehead Golf Course - No.1 Course
About
Hazlehead Golf Course's No. 1 course (also known as Hazlehead Golf Course - Mackenzie Course) is the centerpiece of the complex that consists of two 18-hole championship courses as well as a nine-hole course. Designed by legendary golf course architect Alister MacKenzie, the No. 1 course has earned raves and compliments, with golfers praising it as one of top courses in all of Scotland.
MacKenzie - who counted Augusta National among his many brilliant golf designs - provided a true test of golf for Hazlehead golfers. Gorse and woodland provide hazards, making accuracy a premium at the No. 1 course. Playing to more than 6,200 yards from the back tees with a par of 70, the No. 1 course holds multiple competitions throughout the year, and visitors are welcomed to take their swings on a course renowned the nation over.
One of the top municipal courses you'll find, Hazlehead's No. 1 course gives players tree-lined fairways, with the first and last holes standing out and testing golfers' accuracy and skill.

Overpriced very dry
Unfortunately this course is way overpriced for its condition. A great layout albeit, can get a bit boring with the continual long straight holes but the par 3s are great and really bring it back. The greens are massive and with some watering of the course it would be so much better. For the end of May its amazing how dried out the course was, and really rough around the edges. This course like so man around Aberdeenshire has dilusions of grandeur. Way overpriced for what you get, im going to try and review old Meldrum and Westhills to compare but if you want value for your buck drive to Glasgow or even Newcastle. We played Newcastle United GC two weeks ago, £18 each and it puts this course to shame and its equally as long. Possibly two 18holes and a 9 hole is just to much to manage but at just under £40 I doubt I'd return.
Greens like hairy legs.
Course layout is pretty decent but the upkeep is not great. The greens are shocking wasn’t sure whether to use my putter or driver to get it up to the hole.
Really poor condition
Tees in terrible condition. The greens are are in even worse condition need alot of work to get up to a good standard and the bunkers have just as much stones as sand. I am aware this is a council run course but considering King's links and Balnagask are all in good condition there isn't a excuse for the Makenzie course being so poor. It's a shame because all the holes in the course are nice has the potential to be brilliant but needs alot of investment won't be playing again.
Pleasant game of golf
Great value for this quality course. Some narrow and undulating fairways but otherwise very playable. We had slow play about three groups ahead that was impacting multiple groups.
No Longer a Championship course
Value for money as it was only £15 but this can no longer be a championship course. Had a mid day tee off and the greens had not been swished and were still due on the greens from the night before. Bunkers were also unraked & divots not replaced all over the course, although is more poor course etiquette than poor maintenance. Also clubhouse was not open for drinks or food which you would expect from most courses on a Sunday mid day.
Nice golf course
Nice course. Not too long. Was let through a couple of times, so pace was ok. Greens had been sanded, but were running true.
Good course and good value for money
Very good council run course. Condition of greens was not good.
Course and greens in good condition.
Excellent course. Pace of play good. Would recommend to friends.
Slow play
While it is normally a very nice place to play Saturday was a bit of a nightmare far to many golfers on as it was tee fairway green all the way round enjoyment spoiled by this starter must ensure proper gap between players instead of piling people on.
