Hidden gem overshadowed by the big names around it
If you’re looking for value for money this track will not disappoint.
Course layout is superb - very quirky and original, there’s not many course that have two 9’s totally different.
It feels like playing two different courses:
The original 9 (1888) is the current back 9 - played down by the river and sea, classic links style - relatively flat with undulating fairways, blind tee and approach shots. There really are some special holes here which I’d play totally different now that I’ve seen them. My back 9 consisted of an eagle, 2 birdies, 3 pars, 2 bogeys and a double - that just shows you how much of a rollercoaster it is, great fun.
The new 9 (1994) is the current front 9 - the layout is built on new acquired land on a hill above the back 9 looking over it and the sea. You get some great views from up there but theres not so much of a links feel to it until the 7th, that’s when the course really starts to play.
Course was in good condition, 3 weeks behind where they should be at this time of year (Last week in June) - but all courses in Aberdeenshire at behind due to the heavy frost over winter. Hence why I would recommend playing one of the links courses over the inland parkland courses if you were to choose one.
And this would be my one to choose, unbelievable value for money at £20-30 compared to £140 at Cruden Bay and Murcar. This course is definitely a hidden gem you have to play when you get the chance. Im already planning on going back later in the summer.
Well worth playing.
Great layout, very good greens, wonderful setting, and staff very welcoming and friendly.
Play here
First time we have played here and made to feel welcome. Shop pro was helpful and also the restaurant/bar staff were very friendly. Greens are typical links and running true. We will be back.
Fun to play
Quirky hilly front nine then a proper old fashioned gorse soaked links back nine.
Enjoyable to play.
Good food in the club house and excellent service from Debbie and the team.
Highly recommend eating hear.
Good value
Course was in reasonable shape for this time of year. Course busy but no holdups.
Would play here again.
In very good shape! Value!
Very good value for money. Course in very good shape for this time of year. Impressed.
Great little course
A challenging but fair course, made all the more tricky by high winds but enjoyable non the less. Would definitely recommend playing a round here.!
Although the course was very wet we were on proper greens. Great round for both with the Seals honking in the estuary a bit earie in dusk
Friday game in October
Took a day off and played Newburgh with my son . Great day with the course in really good condition for October, enjoyed the contrast between the front and back nine and the stunning views over the Ythan estuary. We even saw seals in the water next to the 16th tee.
Great course
Brilliant layout and was a challenging with wind on back 9. Course slightly soft but greens were faultless
