Trip down memory lane
The first course I ever played and it was a nine hole layout then - so good to come back and really enjoyed it - so many memories
Bump and Run
A great course that played to my distance. Played yellow tees at 5810 yards. A number of holes are blind from the tee, but they have guide post to give you a direction. Several holes require blind shots to the greens which adds to the degree of difficulty. Some elevated greens will require a skilled bump and run shot. Greens were faster than links courses I played over the past two weeks, however, they putted true.
Lovely course
Kept the driver in the bag all round. Tight fairways, plenty gorse! Challenging course and plenty strategic shots required. Thoroughly enjoyed it, good condition and some stunning views on course and from the clubhouse. Nice meal afterwards as well.
Shocking staff
When turned up we were informed that as we had booked through tee off times we had to play in a 4 ball. The two strangers that were on the tee asked if they could just nip off in front. The member of staff informed them no. We were infrormed that the course made no money of tee off times. We were also told the course was fully booked. This turned out to be a lie. We had a 2 ball behind is for front 9 and no one behind us on the back nine. It just felt like we were an inconvenience to the guy in the club shop . I have used tee off times at kintore inveruirie and several other courses and have never been forced to play in a four ball or made to feel like a burden to the course.
Great course - almost 2 separate nines as one is hilly and the other flat
Some blind holes that make it all that more interesting
Definitely recommend the course
Stunning Views And A Good Variety Of Holes
This is a very interesting course with a good variety of holes. We played after a prolonged period of dry weather and although the fairways were hard and burnt the greens were in remarkably good condition.
Both the starter and clubhouse staff are warm and friendly and views from the large clubhouse first floor amongst the best you will get anywhere in the U.K.
Newburgh on Ythan does not have the appeal of its near neighbours on the Aberdeenshire coast but is very enjoyable to play and we would thoroughly recommend it to golfers.
Not maintained
The course has the potential to be amazing as the set out if well done. The state of the fairways and greens lets this down massively. The club house seems very nice and modern
Links golf at its best
Cracking course. Used to be a member here many years ago and enjoyed revisiting my old stomping ground.
Course was in great condition and as always it was windy conditions all the way!!
VALUE AND VIEWS!
Played here as a warmup round after our overnight flights since we didnt want to spend a lot of money to duff it around in our drowsy state. Were were VERY pleased with this course! The front and back 9s definitely have a different feel (front being more hilly and newly designed but with some awesome views of the estuary, back 9 was original (and better) layout and runs along the estuary) The greens rolled true but were on the slow side. Fairways mostly firm, and not a lot of deep fescue near the fairways so you can at least find your ball and get it out. If you want a pleasant and inexpensive round in good conditions then do not pass this one up!!
As Expected
if we're in the region we always try to play Newburgh. Great course and always in great condition. Welcoming staff, both in the clubhouse and in the pro shop. Excellent value for money. We will be back.
Same views as Trump for one 20th of the price
Same views as Trump for one 20th of the price. Wind on the front nine was a 3 to 4 club wind. Great fun. Died down when you went down the hill for the back nine. Two very distinct nine's which made for a enjoyable contrast. Greens were in good condition and overall the course was in good shape. Would strongly recommend as a break from the high dollar courses. Just as much fun to play.
Link-tastic
Great course in excellent condition, the greens were running superb and very true.
Beautiful layout with the gorse in full bloom, one of my favourite courses in NE Scotland
What a Course
On arrival on the course we were made to feel welcome by all staff, we were told where to start and enjoy - That of course we did. Course was very challenging and in great condition. Myself and my playing partner could not believe what a bargain we had just received . Over the 18 holes each hole had a different challenge and was in great condition and not taxing on our legs and After 18 we would have played again. Not one to be passed FANTASTIC.
Windy Newburgh
On a cold windy day Newburgh we played on a wet under foot conditions winter tees generally in front of the normal tee, but played normal greens.
Fairways - played with mats plus first cut.
Greens - very mossy
Staff - excellent
An explosion of colors at Newburgh-on-Ythan
Looking back, it was probably good that we experienced such wild weather at Newburgh-on-Ythan. We saw rain and hail, and without that punishment, we wouldn't have been treated to such a kaleidoscope of colors from so many rainbows. The links was already looking fantastic with the gorse in full golden bloom. The modern front nine, built in the 1990s on high ground above the river estuary, starts off fairly widen open before gorse intrudes on several narrow par 4s and the par-5 ninth hole. The original back nine delivers the more classical links touches on flatter land, the blind shots and bumpy fairways. The holes - like the short par-4 15th and par-3 16th - get really good when the links cozies up to the river. Pound for pound, every golfer gets their money's worth at Newburgh-on-Ythan, If you don't have the bank account to play at Trump International Golf Links four miles south, this is a great alternative.
Worth the Visit
Got a day ticket for Newburgh on a day that Cruden Bay was hosting an amateur. All things considered, it was a welcome detour. Is Newburgh up there with Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen or Trump? Probably not. Is it a fun links experience-definitely.
The course has two distinct nines. The front nine is newer, has hilly terrain and multiple tiered greens. There is only one blind shot, but all in all it is still a lot of fun. A good mix of short and long.
The back nine is older and has many blind shots and punch bowl greens. If you are off your game, it is the more difficult of the two. Still, a lot of fun.
I met locals on both rounds and they were a pleasure to get in a game with. Both rounds were completed in about 3 hours each. I can also say that a day ticket was about $85. A great value.
If you are in the area and need a good warm up before moving on to the bigger names, then this is a great place. If you are looking for something different and want to experience Scotland, then a round with the locals and time at the 19th hole will be genuine.
