Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Not playing again
The round took 5.5 hours as they overbooked. It took us 45 minutes to tee off on 1 and we were stuck behind 4 other groups all day. They also promised to have a rental set for my wife but they didn't have one when we showed up which was less than ideal.
Someone do a job
Round was fine $60 holiday weekend twilight with a cart I’ll take it. In this heat and humidity there needs to be a halfway house open or a cart girl on split rock. What gives ???? There are 3 elderly gents sitting there as “starters” not doing a thing, yet the snack bar is closed. No cart girl and 1 water container on the 1st hole. Thanks but no thanks. Sort it out.
Good but slooooow round
Played SplitRock today. Big outing on Pelham course forced many beginner golfers onto Split - which slowed everything down. Big highlight was one of those beginners hitting a hole in one on 13 where they had a closest to the hole contest. He had at least 8 witnesses, won himself a box of balls and a free fitting at PXG Golf, and had his pic taken for the charity and for the course itself. Good times!!
Solid Solid
The course and greens we in very good condition. Overall not to hard of a course. The pace of play was very slow on a Saturday at 11:45. Over 5:30 to complete the round. Even though the course did not seemed to be spreading out the tee times.
Split Rock 6/8
Pace of play was an issue at the beginning on the round. Booked a 10:12 tee time, but we didn’t end up teeing off until 10:45. However, once we were on the 4th or 5th hole, the pace picked up and the rest of the round was solid.
Greens were good. Everything else is typical as is.
Over 5 hours???
How you allow a single golfer out by himself on a Sunday morning is beyond me and all the golfers behind us
WAITING all day
What a freakin joke
Horrible wating for hitting a golf shot.
There were some groups doing outing during a weekend. They held our group to finish almost 6 hours rounding. Greens and fairways are good shape now.
Pelham Bay is The Older Course
On property and has the quirkier bunkering. Greens are. It as funky as Split Rock, but still have some undulation to them. I have always like both courses on the property as they are older and full of charm.
Pelham can be very slow based on when you play it, but still an oldie but goodie.
Second Favorite Course of NYC Publics
Absolute love the John Van Kleek greens in this course. Very cool that Van Kleek from the Stiles and Van Kleek architects came to work in NYC during the Great Depression and worked on their courses.
The greens are the highlight of this course and make it worth a trip. Conditions and pace of play can be iffy, but still worth the play.
Slow and pricey
Played Split Rock (started on 10). Our round was so slow I had to finish my round with 4 or 5 holes to play, while facing a half hour wait to tee off on a par 3 (on a Tuesday afternoon). The course is fine I guess for a muni, but overpriced for what it is, and not terribly interesting or engaging. Won't bother playing here again.
